Titles. Lots of water here. Classic Binder.
Classic theme song. Instantly recognizable to Bond. Not sure I'd rank it in my top 5 songs, though. This was the era of the AM station easy listening Bond ballad.
Wouldn't mind a nice romantic ballad for the next Bond theme. Somehow "Writings on the Wall" as a Bond ballad lacked something. Compared to this Binder classic, those titles were sub-par, IMO.
This film had the better Blofeld as well.

When Bond is re-cast, I think they should go even older, say someone closer to Roger age here. Instead of screen testing actors with the Tatiana Romanova scene, do this one instead.

One of the great ski chase sequences IMO.
When I was a kid just getting into Bond, I had seen DR NO on the ABC network, as well as an awful butchered version of THUNDERBALL, OP and NSNA recently in the cinema. That November ABC had their network premiere of FYEO.
I stayed up late that Sunday night to watch it. I remembered catching the PTS previously on Showtime and for whatever reason hadn't seen the whole thing. Now was my chance to see this one all the way through. The run time was 2hrs 45 minutes with commercials.
This became my favorite Roger. I loved the fact it had both ski and underwater sequences. Also mountain climbing, and a casino scene. Great collection of stunts here.
I had the Marvel comics adaptation of this film as well.
Hit the spot the way it always does. I find the John Glen Bonds to be my go-to films of the Roger era.
Never fail to entertain me.
“Melina’s Revenge” is a composite track on the album and does indeed contain that music from the PTS.
Thanks! Actually been awhile since I last heard the FYEO soundtrack. I need to eventually replace my Bond soundtracks. I moved awhile back and ended up leaving all my music, CDs behind.

I think this car chase is excellent. Better than the one set in Rome in SPECTRE.
This reminds me of a 1940's serial style car chase. There were always scenes of cars and trucks plummeting off cliffs.
Bond and Miss Taro. Connery is in control here. He knows how to handle these situations. He even keeps his cool when spit directly in the face.
Craig/Bond and Green/Vesper may have the best Bond/Bond girl chemistry in the whole series. All their moments together are great. Starts perfectly on the train.
I remember Jonathan Ross reviewing for BBC 'Film' programme and saying the poker scenes were the weakest part. Not for me! Considering that's the pivotal part..Bond HAS to beat LeChiffre at the game, I found the scenes gripping. And Campbell does a fine job of breaking the section up....stairwell fight...Bond comforting Vesper in the shower! I this k the Miami scenes could have been edited down a bit, the finale on the runway is superb, but the build up is a little dragged out for me!
In honor of the fact Craig's 5th outing is back on track, time for the great Sean's 5th Bond.

The sumo wrestling match scene.
I saw YOLT screened in 35mm about 5 years ago for a Bondathon. It was an old print that looked a bit scratchy, but the colors were vibrant and popped. The flesh tones vivid- old school Technicolor. The gunbarrel looked and sounded amazing. Again I must emphasize how rich and thick the Maurice Binder gun-barrel blood looks in the cinema. NO DVD or Blu-ray had quite got that tint down precisely.
I've calibrated my television to the "MOVIE" picture setting and the warmer color temperature helps a bit to get that look.
Bond has creamed Henderson's assassin with ease.
Connery looks good in the army green trench coat. Reminds me of Stacy Keach's in the '80's episodes of MIKE HAMMER.
I used to have one like that.

I'm into later (YOLT, DAF and NSNA) Sean these days.
It's my personal belief that Sean quit Bond due to his frustrations on the set for this one.
I don't blame him for being annoyed when reporters follow him into the bathroom asking idiot questions about Bond. If that were me, that might have been the last straw.
There's great footage of Cubby telling the press that Sean needs his privacy.
Tanaka is one of my favorite allies. Great character, IMO.
Bond takes his first civilized bath and enjoys the plumbing. Classic iconic scene.

Here it is..............the volcano set. Tough for me to choose, but if I had to pick a favorite Bond set this comes close............but the Supertanker would be it. I love the Supertanker.

I wonder if Roald Dahl ever came up with a draft that followed the novel more closely? Nah. He was dictated by the formula. Perhaps B25 will indeed be an adaptation of the YOLT novel? I actually think it will be an original Purvis/Wade plot that possibly just uses the phrase SHATTERHAND and nothing else. We'll see.
Oh here it is.............Connery in disguise. To be fair Bond is disguised as a Japanese fisherman in the novel (if memory serves). I don't picture him looking quite as comical, though.
Connery's combed forward wig kind of looks like Craig's hairstyle in QUANTUM OF SOLACE.
When I was eleven I pretty much had Timmy D length THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS era hair. Just about everyone did. I wanted it more like Connery's so I took my mom's scissors and began chopping away. It ended up looking just like Connery's in these scenes.

Great performances by all the actors involved, IMO. Sean is subtle in these types of scenes, and to me has more impact than say.................DELLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Roger's reaction to Vijay's demise is more moving, IMO as well.
That's why Connery and Moore are tied as my favorite Bonds. Connery can do serious (FRWL), campy (DAF) or an even combination of both and look right at home. Roger excelled at the humor, but could also surprise us with a dead serious performance now and then. Considering all the praise Craig gets, my impression from fans is that he's actually a bit limited and can only do "Craig" style dark. To be fair, I don't think SPECTRE was the best opportunity to see him in a fun filled Roger type film.
I'm really glad by the time I saw this one for the first time, the ABC network aired it pretty much intact. Only a few shots were trimmed. Earlier airings had butchered the film. I recorded this off ABC later and used to watch that copy quite often. A couple years later I'd be collecting the films when the Bonds were re-issued on MGM/UA Home Video. That 1988 "Connery Classics" edition had damn good color.
I remember the 1995 "widescreen" VHS edition still cropped and panned the gunbarrel. Over to the left side of the screen. Looked awful.
Bond vs Hans. This is as weak as Bond vs Kreigler. Therefore in B25 we should get a rather wimpy ending fight with a blond henchman to keep this 5th outing tradition alive.
I do like Hans' facial expression as the piranha fish eat him.
Like GF and LALD this one has a specific title sequence for the end. I always liked that, actually.
Well do ends YOLT. This viewing was quite fun. All the 60's Bonds hit the spot for me no matter what the mood call for.

Just as Bond is coming into view, we can just see Werich's gray hair as his head moves. Hans repositions and protectively stands in front of him, back to the camera.

Me too. Gilbert made very memorable classic Bond films. The epitome of larger than life fantasy rooted in reality.
I like the volcano set too. It's incredibly ambitious and looks fantastic even today. Huge in scale also. Like you I prefer the supertanker though. There's just something about the way that whole section of TSWLM plays out that is superior for me, including the great moment of Bond riding the security camera with the Bond theme blaring.
I couldn't agree more. Both Sean and Rog were masters at subtlety in a variety of scenarios. They also slightly altered their line delivery, facial expressions and performances magnificently depending on the tone of their films. That's why these two will always remain the big dogs for me. Masters of the game.
