Watched half of TLD on ITV4 and as bad as usual.
Dalton looked out of his depth but at least his accent is not slipping, and it was just one scene to the next , lack of flow .
I won’t mention all I could mention about you know who.
John Barry ‘s score is one of his best, such a waste .
Oh ,and if Kara didn’t open the back of the Hercules then I think Necros would have killed Bond .
Stays at #24 in my rankings .... I tried.

    You must try harder, Bazza!
Haha, at least you're trying. But you really are missing out! Top 3 Bond movie for me always. Dalton nailed it from the off.
Out of curiosity, Bazza, have you ever read Fleming's short story? Thought it was really excellent how the film makers used it as the springboard for the story. Maibaum and Wilson did a great job developing it.
When I read that particular story, in fact any of the Bond novels, it's Dalton who I always have in my mind!
Don't give up on TLD mate, there is so much to enjoy....best pts, great opening scene straight from the book, fight at the safe house, Saunders, terrific briefing scene with M, one of the best Q and gadget sequences, the Aston Martin chase, KARA!!!(sorry Bazza, but she has real chemistry with Dalts, makes more of an impression than a lot of Bond girls) Koskovs slimy villain, the brilliant encounter with Pushkin in the hotel, (one of THE best scenes in the series) Whitaker and Necros (The former for the great duel in his War Room, the latter for one of the greatest stunt sequences!) Barry's music, the battle at the airport! And more!!
    Love it.

Oh, forgot to mention, it has the last really decent Bond poster! Am hoping Fukunaga has some influence for them to do something similiar for Bond 25!

I know I know,i agree with a lot of what you say, especially the PTS,the opening sequence (I have read the short story yep,and it shows its from Fleming,in that scene),Barry's score, the safehouse fight, hotel room (brilliant),death of Saunders, ice car chase, fight at Whitakers......but...it's something....it's that stupid cow for sure mainly,i just cant deal with her running around talking bullshit,Bond like a wet fart when he is with her,and the way she can suddenly ride a horse one handed while brandishing a machine gun etc etc.

I keep trying and keep failing i'm afraid old chum.

That's ok @barryt007 - I'm a massive TLD/Dalton fan but it's the difference of opinions that makes the Bond series a rich tapestry of tastes. There are so many different shades of 007 - that some will always resonate with certain people more.

It's occasionally quite refreshing to hear people who make valid arguments for disliking something I really like!

I enjoy watching all of them - even my lowest ranked ones like DAD or DAF have enjoyable moments in them, but man, do they have some elements that bug the hell out of me!

Haha, and I thought you were an old romantic!!
Its good that you like some of it though.
I never get tired of watching it. It has everything I want from a Bond movie.
But hey, it be a very dull site her if we all agreed.
I'll keep trying to get you to see more in it buddy. Keep up the funny comments, always worth reading. You've put me in a mood now to watch TLD again, maybe in a double bill with LTK. Haven't done that in a while!

Exactly...it does have its moments,as long as I fast forward when that dizzy tart comes on screen.

A gallant attempt, @barryt007. Eventually you may grow to appreciate TLD more.
As the years progress and we get fewer and fewer films per decade that all end up like SP, TLD may rise up to #1 spot.

I was going to pop in SP to see if it would rise in my rankings, but as soon as I got to the menu I realized I'm not in the mood for a film that looks like somebody peed all over it.
Instead I'm going to be team player........visit the Bond Meter Thread and see which is the least watched Bond film this year..........................

    NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
    it is. Here goes.............................

The Orion Logo sucks. The film originally had that cool late '70's red/orange Warners logo.

    You walk in a rooooooooooom

    Everyone sing along..............

    long range plans.................blah blah

    Maybe big trouble but thennnnnnnnn...............

    blah blah

    Never never say never again

Never , Never say never again....................

    Listen to that bass lick...............

Bond kickin a$$ in the jungle.

    I do like that bass.

SP is a tough watch, out of all the films its probably the only film I won't watch beginning to end.

Connery does look cool in the olive green military outfit here.

    I actually like Edward Fox's obnoxious M.

I think many people can relate to a work environment in which there's a new manager/supervisor who doesn't like the old way of doing things and mixes it up.

Usually staff tends to leave, at least in my experience..

Pierce's Bond kept his cool in that situation. Connery does for the most part but one gets the impression he secretly laughs at Fox's M behind his back.

I love Fatima Blush. My fave.

Connery pumping iron. The fight with Lippe is great.

I have a hard time getting past the gunbarrel. That "Dead are alive" caption ruins the moment for me.

That stairwell Bond hides under before he trips Lippe reminds me of the back stairwell in the apartment building I lived in as a kid.

I used to hide under there pretending I was Connery/Bond.

007 is getting his a$$ kicked until he throws pee all over Lippe. Some of it spilled onto the release prints of SP.

I like the shots of the missiles flying.

I think they look pretty good. Today it would be CGI and a bit more elaborate, but this looks alright to me.

Actually Max Von Sydow is one of my favorite versions of Blofeld.

Bond, surfing porn on the internet, quickly clicks back onto the Largo link when Moneypenny walks into the office. That would have been funny if the internet had existed back then.

    Oh do come along Bond!!!!!

I love Connery's facial expression as M treats Bond like an idiot there.

Here's another great bass lick on Domino's dance record.
    Quite repetitive and funny.

Bond's shoes make a weird sound as he walks toward Q.

I like Algy, actually. A great alternate universe Q, IMO.

The only film in which Connery's Bond has a squared haircut at the neck.
In all the others it's tapered. In DIAMONDS it's longer, tapered so much lighter that it might as well be squared.

Nigel Small Fawcett is a doofus. An idiot savant, minus the savant.

    He's pretty funny, though.

Fatima giving Bond the greatest rapture in his life.

The shark bit was pretty intense in the cinema as I remember.

    Fatima's demise.

According to On the Tracks of 007 this warehouse looks exactly the same now as it did in 1983.

"I was going to put you in my memoirs as number one."

I could see Jim Rockford saying that in a similar situation.

Bond gets into the Flying Saucer. We see his tattoos here.

And he's given a bath robe that resembles his hotel suite furniture from DR NO.

I really like Brandauer's Largo. Great villain and performance. I don't find it fair to compare him with Celi, though. To me that's like comparing Savalas' Blofeld with Le Chiffre.

The music as Bond and Domino escape Palmyra is funny.

TBH, I have a feeling Dan Romer's score for B25 is going to be closer to this than John Barry.

In other words, I doubt were going to be hearing the Bond theme much and the overall sound may not be particularly Bondian. Just different.

    Just a hunch.

So I'm trying to appreciate Legrand's score more.

The final battle. I do like the cave sequence. I think it's pretty cool, really. The brief underwater fight with Largo is a bit limp, though.
Honestly, though I don't like this any less than any of the Bond endings since GOLDENEYE.

Nigel Small Fawcett appears again and makes a fool of himself.

I like Domino's tiger swim suit, though.

Kim's Domino has grown on me over the years. Probably because I've compared her to Claudine. However on this viewing she's her own Bond girl.
Honestly her character is a bit more fleshed out here than Claudine. That said, Claudine still remains my favorite.

Good to read through the comments on NSNA @ToTheRight - I always have a soft spot for it because it was the only bond film they'd play in tv when I was a kid.

Controversially, I prefer the Shrublands sequence in NSNA to TB's

Klaus Maria Brandeur is a top shelf Bond villain for me. And Connery is enjoying the hell out of himself.

That death of Paula with her trapped in the waterbed always creeped me out when I was a youngin!

Yes, Sean does seem to be enjoying his comeback here. Considering how difficult a production it was, it certainly didn't affect his performance. Biggest difference, to me is by this point his voice had evolved into the iconic Connery voiecsh.

I often wonder if the current team at Eon are secretly huge fans of this film? So many elements have been borrowed for the Craig era, even the newest film with Bond coming out of retirement.

Perhaps Craig himself secretly considers NSNA the best and under their noses, uses his new found power to suggest plot points taken from this rival production?

Could be Michael and Barbara, having ignored this film for decades, have no idea Bond has already dealt with a new younger M, has had to get back into shape to be approved for an assignment, and has already come out of retirement.

Perhaps Craig has used his say in production to convince Cary to appoint Dan Romer to score after secretly listening to and dancing around his living room to the NSNA soundtrack?

Perhaps Craig himself finds the gunbarrel unnecessary because the lack of worked for this film? He then uses his authority to sandbag the sequence each and every time it's filmed, hence the fact it's been re-shot for all of his films.

Probably not, but that would be pretty amusing.

In honor of today's announcement I'm in the mood for my main man Craig.

    SPECTRE

Bond is getting reamed a new one by M from the get go,

I must say the yellow hue didn't bother me this time. A pretty solid teaser opening.

M's office looks great in this one.
    C is pretty slimy.

Bond's flat reminds me of mine. I should decorate it like Sean's instead.
Bond's flat is very noirish. I could see Mike Hammer living in this apartment.

Bond's crummy sofa looks like mine. Maybe I'll get some dim yellow lights for the right ambiance?

    Okay that's getting old now.

Bond is kicking it with his good buddy Tanner.

I must say I love this Q scene.

So the funeral scene- why does Bond make that waving motion? Roger would have done the "Roger Nod" instead.

I've loved Monica Bellucci since the Coppola DRACULA. Her presence alone elevated SP.

"Identify yourself, a$$hole" is pretty funny.

Bond crashing the SPECTRE board meeting.

He should have said "May I offer an opinion?"
