My first watch of a Bond film in 2020...and my return to this thread that I love so much.
I said I was in the mood for a Bond film and my wife said - Skyfall. I think it may be her favourite.

While Connery is her favourite Bond. She's not that much a fan of anyone else. We don't watch Brosnan because she never liked him from his Remington Steele days (although she did like Matador and Ghost Writer)

So far she's seen DN, FRWL, GE, OHMSS, LALD, TMWTGG, TLD, CR, SF and SP.

Anyway - that's the choice for this evening.

PTS - still a real highlight. All of Craig's PTS's are fantastic to me. Mendes really does put his best action sequences at the beginning of his dual Bond films.
Craig is pretty damn cool in this opening. I prefer his CR and QoS performances I think but this one is good.

Thomas Newman's music is good here. The part where Moneypenny says she has a clean shot is aided by his decision to change up the music here.

Sound of the Mi6 building explosion matched by the crashing waves and seeing Bond in flagrante on the beach.

Scorpion hand rides drinking match reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Not a bad way to make beer money I guess...

The Union Jacks covering the caskets revealing M in the background is a striking shot and all the events we've seen up to this point show it really is her film...

Identifying Patrice by using the TMWTGG lazar technique for finding assassins.

Wishaw bringing the noise from the beginning as Q. He has great chemistry with Craig too.

Into the Shanghai sequence with grand nighttime vistas. Deakins finest hour in SF and that's saying something...

Phenomenal cinematography aside I like the deferred information as to wahat exactly Patrice is doing and how he's going to do it. The slow zoom in as the shadows fight until Patrice is over the edge all in one shot. Really nice stuff. The way we see Bond from Severine's point of view...and he coolly disappears.

Macau floating Dragon entrance...with that lighting, shot composition as bond steps off the boat. The music, those strings playing the Skyfall theme...why oh why couldn't Newman have included it more often. Bond in tux, clean shaven finally, at a casino, surrounded by villains, banter with a femme fatale...love it.

The first scene between Bond and Severine is nicely played, marhloe does a good job with some subtle touches. I like when Bond recognises that she is scared. Well written scene.

Since we lost Max Von Sydow recently, I'm popping in

    NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN

Immediately I don't like the Orion Logo at the start on the DVD.
The cinematic prints used that '70's/'80's Warner Bros logo.

I love Bond sliding along the telephone wires.
I love Bond headbutting his opponent as well.
M lectures Bond and gives him sh*t.

    I quite like Edward Fox's M, actually.

    Ah, Blofeld.

I think Max Von Sydow might have made a good Dracula. I can picture him made up to look like the novel's description.
    Great actor.

Prunella Gee is an underrated Bond girl, IMO.
I think she's wonderful in this.

Fatima pounds Pettachi. I always liked this scene. She refers to him in the 3rd person.

I'm a very big fan of this film. I love seeing Bond older. And he certainly looks older without having a stubble or buzz cut. The toupee is appropriately thin, IMO. I can see why fans may find this toupee a bit lacking, but to me it works.

    "Jealousy"
My favorite music cue in this film. I like the bass lick.

Largo and Domino in the dance studio.

    Then I cut your throat.

    Excellent villain, IMO.

And we get to the Q scene.

Bond's shoes make that weird sound as he's walking toward Algy and says "Algernon".

Q's lab reminds me of the garage The Fonz worked in.

Q tosses Bond's old watch and smashes it.

You unscrew it, then stick it up your nose!

Bond has known Fatima maybe just a few minutes and gets laid immediately.

He'll later hook up with Valerie Leon.

Love every frame of this film. It is pretty odd, though when one compares it to Eon.

If I were to pick one favorite female Bond villain, Fatima is it, though Fiona and Xenia are close behind.

    Bond in dungarees! YES!!!!!!!!!

Fatima has a complete change of clothes from her dancing, then sneaking into Bond's hotel room.

Shixks two thrlee and............... Sheven two eight.

I need to watch BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB again soon.

I need to upgrade to the Blu-ray of that film.

More soothing, easy listening sounds of Michel Legrand as we segue to France.

She's vicious in that scene! Sexy and scary!

The casino bouncer scene is classic.

    The '80's video arcade scene.

Largo teaches a young girl how to play the game she's on.

The Domination game bit is pretty cool. Dated, now but fairly ahead of its time.

    So Bond does the Tango.

I turned down the sound and put on "I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE" in the background.
Astonishingly, this works even better and is funnier.

    LOVE AT FIRST BITE.

Connery is so cool in that scene with the bouncer. "I shouldn't have the fish..." :))

Felix wears black dress shoes and socks while jogging in his boxer shorts.

    Pretty funny shot actually.

I also love Bond entering The Flying Saucer bit. Bond is sucked inside, Felix gets left out.

Then Bond must endure putting on a bathrobe that looks like his hotel suite furniture in DR NO.

Agree! But she is way better than Xenia imo. Looks fab and is sexy and psychotic at the same time!
Xenia was a poor rip off!

Good point. Carrera is amazing. Always loved her in I, the Jury and Lone Wolf McQuade.

Never seen Lone Wolf McQuade, but did see I, the Jury, she's the best thing in it!

As far as Mike Hammer films go, that 1982 remake isn't exactly the best, IMO. She makes is quite watchable, though.
