I love the Blu-ray. Great colors.

DVD to Bluray was quite a jump in quality, the DVD was appalling. I might be thinking of the VHS that was cropped to pieces.

The UE DVD from 2006 was pretty close cropped and too dark, IMO.

I got rid of my VHS and DVD Bond films several years ago, GE really came into it own on Bluray. I have HDR on my TV it really adds depth certainly to this film.

Somewhere I have an old VHS pan/scan copy of GE. I've kept a few VHS tapes for nostalgia.

Begrudgingly I am ruthless with previous generation content and tend to get rid of it, which I often regret to be honest.

I regret having gotten rid of my old taped from the ABC Sunday Night Movie Bonds. A time capsule I should have kept.

    FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

Love this gunbarrel. I like the dot disappearing as well. Had SPECTRE done something like that, I might have overlooked that bulls**t DEAD ARE ALIVE caption.

What am I commenting on that film, whilst watching a great James Bond movie?

    Back on topic.

Howard Sprague from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. That's who the Bond target practice victim looks like to me.

Robert Brownjohn was an unsung Bondian legend. I love these titles.

Let's see if this makes my number 1 spot after today's viewing.
I do actually think this is the series' best film.

Kronsteen just kicked whatshisname's a$$ during the chess tournament sequence.
Now we get a great Blofeld representation here.

    I love Eric Pohlman's voice.

I like this Blofeld's SPECTRE ring quite a bit.

I suppose the unseen Blofeld is this film's main villain, though I've heard the argument it's Grant or Klebb.

I love the SPECTRE island sequence. Wonderful stuff here.

I love the atmosphere as Tatiana adjourns to meet her new boss, Klebb.

    Such a creepy vibe here.

Syd Cain is another unsung Bond legend, IMO.

So, unless I'm mistaken, this is Sean's real hair.

His thinning spots apparently painted in.

I do remember an interview where Connery mentioned he wore a two piece on DR NO. Perhaps he was thinking of GF?

I must say his hair looks good in this film. M and Q have good haircuts as well.

In this quarantine I'm attempting to perfect the art of the self neck taper.
Very easy to screw that up, but a triumph when one can fix it and blend it back in.

I love the segue as Bond leaves Moneypenny's office and the Bond theme kicks in.

    YES!!!!!!!

    James Bond With Bongos.

With all the setbacks, tragedies, and obstacles the film production crew had on FRWL I love that this one is so classic and iconic.
Terence Young is probably my favorite Bond director of all.

"He's a rather intelligent young man, by the way."

I love the way Connery delivers that line.

I plan on using it when I meet a rather intelligent young man some day, and have his father present to pay the compliment to.

Barry kicks in with the classic Bond theme recording. I imagine maybe Hunt inserted the music here?

Bond going around the room checking things out. YES!!!!

That IS a rather puny bed. Had Tania sneaked into THAT bed, 007 might have to get creative.

    Kerim Bey is my hero.
    Here we go................

Kerim and Bond underground in the little boat. I love that they're wearing gray suits here. The water looks pretty nasty. yet 007 is impeccable.

I like Kerim Bey's wristwatch as well.

    The man is stylin'.

    Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another great set piece: the gypsy camp sequence.

The entire gypsy camp/Krilencu bit was cut on the ABC network.
It went straight to the Tania bedroom seduction.

Hard to believe that was the version I was familiar with for years.

Connery has the greatest facial expressions during the belly dancer sequence. Also some great looks of disapproval during the girl fight.

    Vavra is another memorable character.

Who's side to root for? Aliza or Martine?

..............and the 007 Theme kicks in. Needs to make a comeback someday, IMO.
It probably won't. You never know?

Years ago I remember renting, I believe it was an Italian horror film from the '60's,

that used the establishing shot of the gypsy camp set as stock footage for one sequence. I wish I could remember what film that was. Might have been a Spanish horror film with Paul Naschy. Definitely a horror genre film from the late '60's though.

    THE MOUTH OF ANITA EKBERG.

or THE MOUTH OF MARILYN MONROE as per the novel.

I often wonder which NIAGARA poster Fleming was referring to in the novel?

Anita. FANGS OF THE LIVING DEAD a.k.a MELENKA THE VAMPIRE'S NIECE.

For some reason the atmosphere in that film reminds me a bit of FRWL.

    The famous Tania seduction sequence.

The James Brolin and Sam Neill versions are laughable compared to the real thing here.

Sam Neill played an MI6 agent in HOSTAGE co-starring Art Malik and Talisa Soto.

Sam Neill gets it on with Talisa in some rather early '90's Cinemax styled love scenes. It's pretty cheesy.

I kind of like that film as indifferent as it is, though. Gives an indication what Neill might have been like as Bond.

    Damn!
Connery and Pedro Armendariz's chemistry together is wonderful.
I feel Pedro could have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for this performance.
He's one of a kind when it comes to Bond allies. Truly sets the standard.

The 007 Theme again as we board the train. Another section of this movie I love.

I think this film is going back to my number one spot.

I'm really getting into this one.

Bond is charming Tania with some new threads and wardrobe. Quite a romantic scene.

    I always liked Connery's blue/white shoulder holster.

"Not mad about his tailor are you?"

Connery is superb throughout. This, IMO is the definitive onscreen incarnation of Bond here. Fleming's Bond with dashes of Terence Young charm.

I am thoroughly riveted and enthralled here.

I need to get a black leather attache case.

Always had a thing for briefcases when I was a kid. I remember telling my elementary school principal what was wrong with his lame briefcase and encouraging him to get a more Bondian attache case. It was funny.

Actually his briefcase was pretty cool. Very old school which I like.

Tania has been drugged and we're off to the classic confrontation sequence............................

I like when Grant strikes Bond across the face. Another great Connery facial expression.
    Bond in peril.

I love when one feels Bond is in true danger.

I can't picture anyone slapping Roger hard like that. Craig could take it, though.

Somehow I think if Tim played this scene and was slapped like that it could be unintentionally funny. Same with Pierce.

....and the latch opens, we're on................................

So perfect. The audience cheered after Bond defeats Grant.

I think the only fight sequence in the series to capture this one's greatness and intensity is the stairwell fight in CR.

The other train fights with Tee-Hee, Jaws and (to an extent) Hinx are fun and games by comparison.

Bond pulls the guy by the hair an punches him out.

    "Excuse me."

    Great stuff! Sneaky Bond here.

Now we get to the NORTH BY NORTHWEST homage.

Another action sequence I love from this film. I believe this one caused Terence Young some stress as well.

Connery in the trilby. I love trilby and fedora style hats.
Bond is as dashing as ever.

I can't picture any of the other Bond actors being able to pull off the hat, though. Except George.

Craig could possibly pull off that look.

Bond intimidates the sh*t of this character.

    "Where's the KEY?!"

    In my coat...........in the pocket.

    He's terrified of Bond.

I once saw this one on a double bill with TSWLM. Great double feature and clean 35 mm prints.

This film started immediately with the gunbarrel.

    No UA logo.

Daniela Bianchi is one of my favorite Connery era Bond girls. She's certainly rising in my rankings after this viewing.

    Damn. That was amazing.

    I have time for another.

I may just pop in GOLDFINGER to see if it drops a notch after this viewing.......................

    Gunbarrel!

This one is just as good if not more playful.

I love the Bob Simmons pose.

Sneaky Bond right away. I love it!

I lobe Brownjohn's title for this one as well.

Damn this is hitting the spot.

I like Linder's Leiter. I wouldn't say he was the best, but he does have good chemistry with Sean.

Goldfinger has an amazing outfit here as he plays cards with Mt Simmons. Makes Connery's blue onesie look good.

My favorite Connery "Bond, James Bond".

Goldfinger looks pi$$ed off as Bond is messing with him.

Only a few minutes in and now this one is back to my number 1 spot.
    Very close tie, though.

I do like Connery's black dinner suit here. He looks great in this one.
