Watching OHMSS, first Bond film of 2022. One of my major gripes with NTTD (obviously not the biggest gripe) is the piggybacking on the magic of OHMSS. But, it does illustrate the cachet that the older film has garnered. Even with all the hubris associated with the Craig Era, they would be so obvious in their reverence and subservience to this film.

I was duped in the cinema by the OHMSS themes, I think I was just happy to be watching my first film since the pandemic started on the big screen plus we had waited an eternity for NTTD. Also I never saw OHMSS on the big screen I just loved hearing the themes in that moment.

Later on though the themes could easily be removed they do feel a bit shallow, one could argue the link to OHMSS is an attempt to convince the audience that Bond and Madeline's relationship is comparable to Bond and Tracy's which it is not. To be fair though I am am more convinced by Bond and Madeline than I was in SP.

When I first heard All the Time in the World and OHMSS Theme, I argued that the 007 theme crops up in various Bond films and Bond has various themes that follow him around, though OHMSS theme is way to specific to one film and its narrative within, NTTD is indeed piggybacking on a greater movie.

P.s. Reading my three comments above it looks like I was on here after a couple of drinks the other night lol NTTD seems to be my go to when I sit down to relax at the moment, well the pre title sequence is.

Probably just purposeful Easter eggs inserted on purpose in an attempt not to alienate older fans

I don't mind nods to the series, the films are littered with them, taking huge plot points though devalues a film.

I do enjoy NTTD overall but its not top tier for me, though there are some great moment's in the film, and DC in certain scenes is excellent.

I have really mixed feelings about the use of the OHMSS music in NTTD.
On one hand I love it as an homage and tribute. On the other hand, the Craig era eliminates Tracy and her marriage to Bond from Bond lore. Piz Gloria, Tracy, Draco, etc., didn't exist in the Craig era, Therefore what's the point in referencing that story by including the OHMSS music?
The Craig era is it's own alternate universe within the Eon world.

My favorite alternate universe Bond is

    NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN

    which I'm watching right now.

    I love Fatima's entrance.

Max Von Sydow probably could've played Dracula.
Prunella Gee is my favorite Patricia Fearing.

The jazz music kicks in as Patricia takes a bite of Bond's food.

I vividly remember all the Shrubland scenes in the cinema. My folks took me to see a matinee the weekend this came out. One screen neighborhood cinema long gone now.
I loved Connery's older Bond look in this film. I had been watching the ABC Sunday Night Movie airings of the Bonds and was determined to see every film. Ironically THUNDERBALL aired a few weeks prior, a film I was slightly disappointed in the first time. Maybe it's because ABC removed the gunbarrel?

Bond is getting thrashed by Lippe.

Bond is wearing a ton of eyeliner while being scolded by M for damages to Shrublands.
Also looks like he's wearing fake eyelashes.

Connery has a lot of energy in this scene. He's pretty quick on his feet.

I think the section where SPECTRE steals the missiles is paced better in this film than THUNDERBALL. In addition I love the shots of the missiles flying over Langella's Dracula castle.

    Put them on ice!

I don't suppose Connery's Bond in this universe had ever dealt with Blofeld or SPECTRE before this assignment.
    Doesn't bother me too much.

I quite like Pamela Salem's Moneypenny. She's not given a lot to do, but I think she has decent chemistry with Connery.
Largo is nice to his staff wishing them all a good morning.

My favorite music in recorded history is Domino's accompanying workout beat.
    It's pretty funny.
Domino's dance instructor knows when it's time to leave.

Salem is definitely overlooked as a decent Moneypenny!

    Valerie Leon is great.
Nigel Small-Fawcett is pretty goofy, but he doesn't ruin the film for me.
Also he doesn't outstay his welcome as his role is quite brief.

More soothing sleep inducing piano sounds as 007 examines the photo of The Flying Saucer. I maintain the opinion that here, he should have requested the band to play JUMP UP.

Connery speaks many of his lines with the same intonation.

    "I'm all yours"

    then seconds later his

"Right away" is spoken with the same tone.

Bond is trapped in a wreckage and surrounded by sharks.
Quite interesting that these sharks are real. Today it would certainly be CGI: realistic looking or not.
    Pretty intense scene, actually.
Now he's getting it on with Valerie Leon.

Again, I love the soothing, sleep inducing, early '80's , AM radio sounds as we segue to France.

Felix scares the sh*t out of everyone as he startles Bond.

It's gonna be your ass, James!

    Thank you.

The spa supplies Bond with a work uniform, unless he stole one.
Bond makes a hasty retreat as the real masseuse arrives.

I do love the moment where Bond takes care of the casino guard, and steals his gun.
Video arcades were all the rage in 1983.
Here we get Connery's apologetic reading of "My name is Bond, James Bond."
He's coming clean for perving on her earlier at the spa.
I once knew a guy who truly believed Timothy Dalton was in the background and being groomed in this film for his future debut in TLD. He had read it on an imdb forum and was absolutely convinced this was the case.

I really like the Domination scene.
I think the graphics are pretty cool. There were very colorful in the cinema with vivid reds and blues.
Considering how popular video games have been I'm almost surprised a similar scenario wasn't introduced for Craig. I could see him doing this scene for the modern era.

Bond has a healthy breakfast eating an apple. Another element from NSNA the Craig era was influenced by. Well, maybe not, but he did peel an apple in NTTD.

After that nutritious meal, Bond is ready for some action and jazz music.
I love the Styrofoam casing the motor bike is housed in.

The Fatima Blush confrontation is classic.

Bond is given an astonishing bathrobe and towel combo.

Bond is now wearing a similar outfit he seduced Patricia Fearing in. It's working for Domino, too.
    Blue dress shirt, dark slacks.

To be fair, one quick glimpse in a cinema in pre-VHS/dvd days and you can see how these rumours get started... :))

Quite true. He certainly has Tim's hair. This actor should be tracked down and appear on one of the Bond podcasts: JBR or The Bond Experience. That would be funny.

Superb viewing of NSNA. I had a phone call during the final 3rd of the film, hence my lack of comments this time.
