    CASINO ROYALE

Been awhile since I watched this one...........and I didn't have time to celebrate Craig's birthday this week.

I popped open a Craig DVD Bond collection that goes up to SPECTRE. It was a Christmas gift last year. I'm used to watching this one on Blu-ray, but the DVD looks alright.

I'm pretty sure I saw this film about a dozen times in the cinema back in 2006. I really don't remember the number of screenings I went to for this one.
A buddy of mine, who was a casual Bond fan, really loved this film and it was easily his favorite Bond movie. Needless to say, we went to CR quite a bit that winter.

Bond just lost to Le Chiffre and looks absolutely gutted.

I love all these casino scenes.
After watching NTTD last week and now this one, I don't think Craig changed all that much in 15 years. He is a bit more youthful here but not that much different.
Not like Sean's first and last outings.

I'm a bit nostalgic for this part of Craig's era. I loved that this film was pretty much unanimously loved. It felt like a HUGE event when this came out.

Bond gets poisoned. Craig is excellent here. I almost wish Martin Campbell would come back to direct B26.
Part of this film's success for me lies in the fact that it is a pretty faithful adaptation of the book. Fleming's story is brilliant as is. This is just updated.

Dench's M looks worried as Bond nearly dies here, whereas Fiennes M looks like he doesn't give a s**t when Bond actually does die.

I like that Bond has removed his dinner jacket for the final round.
It would be funny if he had his shoulder holster in plain view. That would've been great.

Le Chiffre is in deep s**t now.
His response to losing is nothing short of masterful.
Time for some scrambled eggs and caviar.
I assume Bond has ordered scrambled eggs at the casino restaurant.
Maybe he's simply having sliced apples with his toast?

I love the little car chase here before Bond crashes.
I still had a 4:3 tube television when this film got it's initial DVD release. A Toshiba. Had a decent picture, but I felt the shot of the winding road as the chase commences looked a bit too dark.

Bond does look a bit terrified as Vesper is whisked away to be interrogated.
They should've used a carpet beater like in the book.
Le Chiffre hangs his nice dinner jacket on that dirty, rusty, greasy chain LOL.

The torture scene is absolutely perfect.
Craig is groundbreaking as Bond here.

    Bond recuperating in a wheelchair
Mathis taken away is pretty funny, actually.
Craig and Green had astonishing chemistry that I don't believe has been matched since.

    V-E-S-P-E-R.
Simple password. But that was 2006. Today it would have to be Ve$per(RebornNakd)2006 or something complicated like that.

Bond again in Venice. I wonder if the next Bond actor will have nearly all of his films shot in Italy?

Craig fights a one eyed henchman in his first film and in his last.

It really sucks when the love of your life dies and you can't save her.
    Craig plays this moment well.

I never liked Judi Dench's M office set. I far prefer the classic office.

.........and we get a superb reading of "The name's Bond, James Bond" by Daniel.

I still say those are hidden knee pads for Jesper Christensen to cushion is crawl on that gravely, rocky crummy ground.

    Excellent viewing yet again!

I will never forget that year! I cut out every newspaper article and review of CR! Think it was The Sun that printed a shot from that final scene and I was gobsmacked! Got totally pumped for it, and the hugely positive reviews were tremendous! One of my most memorable first viewings of a film! Couldnt believe how good it was, and Daniel was awesome! So satisfying also to see those CraigNotBond idiots being silenced too!

Great time to be a Bond fan.

GE I can get really caught up in the wonderful interrogation scene with Defense Minister Mishkin, and at that point I'm always feeling very good about the film overall. But that is followed by that tedious shootout, which is followed by the even more tedious tank chase. That's why GE can't dependably stay in my Top Ten; too many times where it just loses me right when I am having a blast. The excellent PTS and Title Sequence, followed by that horrid score and crappy dialogue which accompanies the first sighting of Xenia. Give it a more traditional Bondian score, and take Caroline out of the scene and it would have been quite an acceptable chase.

Yes, Caroline is indeed an annoying character, in a film full of annoying characters!

Binder should have used the Golden gun more. Such a waste of a prop!
