Considering what's just gone on inside the courtroom - Tanner should be freaking out a lot more than he does when M is whisked away by an unknown person.
  • Kinnear's Tanner has two modes: on horse tranquilizers and smiling. For a long time I believed he had only the one, but I caught him smiling in Spectre during my last watch...twice!

The Aston scene puts a grin on my face - but the ejector seat line pushes the joke one step too far. The music choice works. Actually Newman uses elements of the bond theme more often than I remembered.

Another bravo sequence for Deakins - make the Scottish highlands look like a mystical place from an Arthurian legend. Thematically this is a kick ass Bond film.

I'm not a big fan of Kincaid. I think without the Connery connection that was intended - and I'm thankful never happened - I just don't see the point of this character. Especially seeing as he survives and is responsible for flashing his torch around in the darkness. Finney is a great actor and a good presence for this kind of Bond film scenario - but I think this might have been stronger with just M and Bond vs silva and crew.

The shot behind of Silva's crew walking down toward the house of Skyfall reminds me of the corrupt cops walking toward the Amish village at the climax of 'Witness'

The initial wave of bond and co attacking Silva's bad guys is an exciting sequence. The helicopter scene is quite nice and strange - recalling Apocalypse Now and Predator. And now Silva's stumbling with Skyfall burning behind him - Deakins is the MVP for sure

I'Ve always felt the emotional pay off with M's death is a real strength of why Skyfall works, God knows there are massive plotholes but the end game of Silva's is to kill M in a meaningful and symbolic way - and I don't want him to so i feel invested. And Also in this day and age of 'undeath' - bringing characters back to life that populates almost all the superhero films you got to give Eon props for killing off a major character - and letting go of a giant acting presence in Dench.

This is the end...hold your breath and count to ten...

I love the ending - all of you fellow bond fans know why. I don't need to state the elements. They're obvious. This and CR are my two favourite endings to a Bond film ever. They have me cheering and pumped for the next film! That gun barrel is better than Spectre's but it's unforgivable not to have it at the beginning.

Well. I enjoyed the hell out of Skyfall today. I've enjoyed Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only in recent weeks and now Skyfall which I hadn't watched in a while. Aside from plotholes I dig this film a lot.

Changes in perspective : Moneypenny is really good this time around, I appreciate Newman a little more. The dialogue is a lot cleverer than I gave it credit for.

Everything else I've always held firm on in the past. I'm not sure of rankings but I'd say top 12 or 10 for me. I think Mendes is on form here but aside from the PTS and climax it's not that much of an action film. More a thriller almost. I do think thematically Mendes excels and he has something to say - as do the scriptwriters. Whereas I feel you can see Mendes was talked into Spectre and he had some of the superficial elements but not a lot of consistent story substance, but I will reassess spectre soon. Because skyfall's ending always has me excited for the next one!

I think the idea that Silva actually does have M killed but never lives to see the moment as he dies first is a brilliant irony.

DAF on...i still love the PTS,although im in the minority...

i want to hate it but i cant.....its #22 out of my 24 film ratings at the moment..above MR and below FYEO...

Connery's presence ,is still so strong...he looks so tough and could kill you in a second...no other Bond has that, only GL and DC to a lesser extent...

And Tiffany starts off so impressively in Amsterdam,in control and confident ,compared to a rubbish thick gal later...shame.

Bond has just hit Las Vegas....got past the coffin scene and now is walking in the casino..still a class act...so far its a top 10 Bond film, but i know what is to come...but its still a lot more entertaining than the 3 films above it : FYEO,TMWTGG,YOLT.....at the moment its a 3 place rise but i know it wont happen later...lets see..

The fact i see the original Las Vegas and i know the casino Bond is throwing craps in has not to long ago been demolished is nostalgia and history, which is in DAF favour.

To me the film is great until the buggy chase; that drags. Then it gets good again when Bond ascends The Whyte House and confronts Blofeld, then it dies until the coda on the ocean liner (I like that).

Thats about right tbh....and the collapse of a promising character like Tiffany doesnt help,or Charles Gray as Blofeld.totally agree.

I don't get why you say Tiffany collapsed. She's the kind of wacky Bond Girl that I love. Would you rather she started shouting soldiers with confidence and determination? I hate the tough, serious Bond Girls (Pam and Natalya come to mind).

And I also really like Charles Gray as Blofeld.

No not in that way,but she was a professional drug smuggler so i would expect more, but thats a personal assumption,i do see your point.

I love the pool-side scene which has just finished, where Bond reveals his colours and his determination to find out whats going on,after seeing Plenty drowned in the pool.

She does ,but she is not a Kara or a Goodnight...Klaus Hergersheimer has just left the building...a legend in our Bond world !!

Hahaha doesnt everyone know that ?

The moon buggy scene ,as you said @Birdleson ,matey,is naff, and it lost me a lot of games in the 'Top Trumps Supercars' games i used to play as a kid,as i always loved it when i got the moon-buggy card but it had crap scores and i always lost.

Watching OP now with the guys.

DAF-TSWLM-MR-YOLT-AVTAK-TB, that's what we already have behind us.

OP PTS, exciting, funny, innovative, Moore at his best. I almost can't get better than this PTS wise.

Nice titles, but the song is a bit meh... (the guy's words ;) )
Personally I have grown accustomed to its sound.

I paused SP on SKY Cinema as i had a phone call, so am now only at the shit London ending, but i do think the 'Hildebrand Rarity' safehouse is a bit of a cop-out ,as if they cant find a use for it in future films so will stick in the final scenes just to show they 'used' it....bad show..

And MI6 would stick M,MP and Q in a car to help Bond ?...sorry,if London is under attack, dont we have MI6 ,MI5 agents,SAS and police ,who can all help without causing distraction ?

The only thing that bothers me with regards to the London finale is Moneypenny, Q, and Tanner's intrusiveness. As if MI6 doesn't have any other employees to put to use.

Agreed,as per above...and now Bond is running around shouting 'Madeleine !!' i have turned it off...
As per my thread on Blofeld getting away in the helicopter, this grinds on me everytime to see Blofeld crawling on the floor like an idiot, compared to Blofeld in FRWL,TB and OHMSS...i cant watch it.

It seems they have more employees than whoever worked in C's building! Place is bone dry on the night of a major surveillance program launch.

That was bothersome as well, and the only true instance in the film where there is an actual complete lack of extras.
