The 007 star is required to have facial hair in the upcoming spy movie Skyfall, making him the first Bond to do so.
(Bond geeks will know, Pierce Brosnan did sport a beard in Die Another Day but that was because he had been held captive, not through choice).
It's not just growing whiskers Daniel's got to get used to, a dream compared to the tight blue trunks he had to wear in Casino Royale.
The film is going to be made on a shoestring budget in comparison to the last few.
A source said: "They've really scaled back.
The lavish production and locations have been cut.
There is only a reduced cast and crew travelling to the few overseas destinations.
"There's not so flash hand-to-hand fighting, it's gone back to blowing stuff up – including London's Vauxhall Bridge."
Going back to basics is not a bad thing. The classic car chases are what it's all about.
A lot of filming will take place in London and Scotland from next month.
Daniel will be grateful for the extra hair.

I nominate the sun.
There is only a reduced cast and crew travelling to the few overseas destinations.

If they cut on the costs, which I believe to be true, it makes sense to have lesser people travelling but it doesn't make sense to cut on hand to hand combat, as those are less expensive to do then blowing stuff up.
I remember the when The World is Not Enough production started, the Sun mentioned The Dome, a Bomb and chase to stop London blowing up. Bits and pieces but they sort of got it.
I presume the same here, bits and pieces that might surface in the film. I wouldn't pooh pooh it, the only thing I question is the name of the film. When is the press conference?
I know several crew members already working on Bond 23 and it does seem that there is quite a lot of the story set in London and the UK (Scotland). The budget is tighter, but still around the $150 million mark, so The Sun's statement that the film is being done on the cheap is nonsense. Bond 23 is still a big movie by any standards, but Studios are trying to cut back the production costs on all their films now, so this is just another example of that.
I've personally always wanted a Bond film to make bigger use of London and the UK, so I'm excited about how Bond 23 seems to be shaping up.
As for Bond with a beard. It's quite possible he has this look for a part of the film, for whatever dramatic reason, but I suspect it's not the look for the entire film.
Which is what has been reported here by Mi6 hq.
YOLT, but look at the quality of that film.
FYEO was lower budget than Moonraker. And I know which one of those I rate highest as
a good Bond film.
Now let me predict the next rumour:
"Daniel Craig is growing a record-breaking beard in order to swing from Vauxhall Bridge onto a passing boat as part of the film's action-packed chase sequence in London."
And the film can look just as lavish as before with a smaller budget. It's all about improvising.
Being heavily UK based and having limited production moves abroad will really help keep costs down.
The Sun makes the claim that Bond 23 will not be so lavish, but I don't believe that for one second. I just think they are making sure what they spend goes up on the screen.
I know, due to the ongoing script re-writes on QOS, there was quite a bit of waste. Different versions of scenes and action sequences like the pre-title car chase.
This time Bond 23 has a solid screenplay locked in place and I think this is a major help re: how and where to spend the production budget.
Naturally, the beard would come from him not having any work, and just sitting around in his flat all day drinking vodka martinis.
Craig has said Mendes has re-read all the books and has a new angle. I wonder, and hope, Mendes has decided to focus on some of that unused Fleming material with Bond off duty.
I am also reassured that B23 could have much less locations than QOS. It seems only 2 countries (Turkey and S.Africa) outside of London and Scotland... I don't know, but I have a 200% greater feeling about this film than before... This could be an instant classic, IMO.
Um, wouldn't it be cheaper to just have flashy hand-to-hand fighting than blowing stuff up... ?
Anyway, this is from the sun. I smell poo poo.
I have to admit GF is a bit of a bore... Connery is captured for half the film.
