The UK Policing Thread

I know that we have a number of ex-police officers (and perhaps even current police officers) here from the UK so I thought it might be an interesting idea to start a separate thread where issues concerning policing in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) could be discussed at length as it comes up quite a lot on other threads. This thread could therefore act instead as a "one-stop shop" for all matters concerning policing in the UK. :)

So who wants to get the ball rolling?...

    I guess I will.

Does anybody know what type of cars The Metropolitan Police used in the 1960s as service vehicles?

I'd take a guess that they used Fords, either the Anglia or the Cortina.

I don't think they would have used Anglias. Austin 1100's perhaps along with the P6 & Cortinas/Escorts as area 'Panda' cars. with S type Jags & possibly P6's as traffic vehicles. In those days British bikes would have been used. The 'Black Maria' would most likely have been the Austin or Bedford (types unknown to me). The Transit van would have also been used.

    Two options that I recall from the1960s. 1 Triumph 2000. 2 Rover P6 or P6b 3500cc V8.
The V8 option being preference for Traffic and fast support or response work.

Why did the guy hold up a bowling alley of all things ?
Was it personal against someone ? I haven't looked into it.

Don't know many details myself yet but I'm sure it'll all come out in the next few days. Just thankful that, for once, there was no injury or loss of life.

From what I heard, he was the husband of one of the employees of the bowling. But that's only what I've heard, so...

My favourite part: "The gunman reportedly walked into MFA Bowl and yelled "game over" before ordering people to get out."

How pleased with himself do you think he was when he came up with that?

My wife just made a statement tonight to a police officer regarding the neighbour's dog who bit her on Halloween. It was quite reassuring.
