Maybe the cover? Or a Plot synopsis? I would be glad about a release date but i would hardly call that a giveaway

According to his previous tweet, he has seen the cover, so that may be the giveaway! Guess we'll know very soon.

"007 floats in the waters of Marseille, killed by an unknown hand."

Hold on, what? Bond replaces the previous 007? I thought there were no more than three 00s,abd when one died a new one got the following number. Which means Bond became 007 after a previous number died, most likely 006.
Lol, bad goof on Horowitz's part.

Funny that it's called Forever and A Day. I wonder if this was a comeback to Donald E. Westlake's recent novel called Forever and a Death, whose premise was originally written for the 18th James Bond film.

As always I will read the book to make up my own mind, just like trailers do not represent a whole movie I will not judge the book based upon this description.

We had Bond alongside 006 in Goldeneye, so I don't have too much of an issue with this.

Although, I hope this isn't a direct prequel to Casino Royale, because that would screw up Horowitz's intelligence since Bond has been a 00 for quite some time by then. A veteran 00-agent.

You really miss the point, don't you?
  • I'd rather it not be a prequel to CR too, but I'm sure I'll revise my opinion when I read it and enjoy it, and I'm sure I will.
I'll be keeping my eye on this forum for news of special editions (like the Waterstones black cover version of Trigger Mortis), and any local signings.

Long live Bond in print! The original!

Don't he have aquired his licence to kill by killing a Japonese in NY and a Norvegian ? What do they mean by "with the extraordinary story of how he got his licence to kill" and "It’s time for James Bond to earn his licence to kill" ?

    Perhaps it's about that.
  • They haven't announced anything yet Birdleson, but I'm betting there will be some special editions of Forever and a Day. The best thing is, keep your eyes on this forum. That's what I'm going to do. I'm lucky to have a couple of black cover editions of Trigger Mortis, and I can remember a time when Waterstones had a whole bunch of them on a 'two for one' deal.

I've hesitated on placing a preorder in case there's another special edition. I also hope there'll be a talk and signing at some point...
  • You can pre-order already?
  • Thanks. Waterstones usually do first edition hardbacks cheaper than Amazon, so I might check with them that they're going to be having it on the release date, and pre-order it from there.

Love the title, not thrilled with the setting, even more so that it's a prequel. Of course I'm going to give it a shot, but I'm curious how Horowitz will line this up with Casino Royale, particularly the Bond Girl role. Can't very well have a first love before Vesper. Also frustrated that the US doesn't get a release till the autumn. Then again, I ordered the Waterstone edition of Trigger Mortis last time, so hopefully they will have something cool again.

    Perhaps it's about that.

I think this is his first mission as a 00 (I'm guessing the description is a bit misleading, "how he got it" is probably just the old one dying, him being promoted).

The way I've always taken the two kills idea is that two assassinations make you eligable but you're not automatically made a 00. The comment about Bond being prepared is probably talking about the two kills CR describes; they were preparing him and in the process of that he'd gotten his two kills, but things had to be bought forward when the old 007 was killed. Horowitz is a fan of the books and I doubt IFP would sign off on a massive retcon so I don't think we need to worry about CR being contradicted.

I'm still not 100% sure about the idea, I don't think we really needed to read about any of his missions before CR. But Trigger Mortis was great so I have faith in him.

I would have preferred an ending to an origin story to be honest, if they wanted to do something different. I think Fleming probably would have given him one eventually and I like the idea of a book about his last mission, set in the late 60s/early 70s.
  • PussyNoMore (PNM) is delighted that "Forever & A Day" is a prequel to CR.
This is a genius idea and one that PNM has been rumouring for many months.
It keeps Horowitz within the correct era whilst giving him the freedom to do something creative outside of Fleming's published timeline.
It is also great that Cape are publishing it so hopefully we'll get some decent cover art.
For those interested, I'm sure there will be special editions.
It would be great if they could get together with Bentley again. That said, if that was to be done, with lead times as they are, it will already be in the hopper.
PMN is excited and will be at the launch.

I thought you would be, Pussy.

I would think he would have more freedom had it been set after TMWTGG, though. The specter of Vesper looms in my mind by setting it before CR and I feel that pigeonholes any deep romantic involvement for Bond.

I share your hope for some smashing cover art.

Not a bad title. Although it made me think of Don't Go Away by Oasis. Lol love that song. Back in high school I actually wrote a prequel to the film version of Dr. No so I actually kind of dig this.
