David Lean is also a great pick. Have been impressed with his work.

My favourite is, rather controversially, not Lawrence or Bridge but Doctor Zhivago.

Can't blame ya, either way, one of those three will make you want to go to where they're set and blast the soundtracks at full blast.

I'm not a big Cameron fan. My Top 9 is pretty secure, 10th spot is more up for grabs. For now I keep Ridley Scott there, but it definitely can change.

Yeah. Terminator 1 is the only Cameron film I kind of enjoy myself (still have to see 2). Otherwise don't care for his work.

I highly recommend watching 2 prior to forming an opinion on which is best. Imho, it's one of the greatest films of the past 30 years, and an outstanding sequel. The rest you can skip.

Leone, Kurosawa, PTA, Scorsese, Coppola, Lumet, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Wilder, Tarantino, Fincher, Linklater, Nolan are some of my favourites. Hard to pick a favourite but if I had to would be Leone or Kurosawa. I'm trying to work through all of Kurosawa's films but some of his earlier ones can be tricky to get hold of, I'm up to 19 or 20 currently. Anyone have any other Japanese directors they're big fans of? (Kurosawa and Kobayashi are my top picks)

    Martin Scorsese

    Robert Zemeckis
    Favorite: Cast Away
    Least Favorite: Beowulf

    Christopher Nolan

Roman Polanski, Orson Welles, David Fincher, Peter Jackson, and Billy Wilder are some unranked directors that are in my Top 20.
