Thank you, @Thunderfinger. It is a pressing concern to me, obviously.

Here is just some news on another of Trump's calls, on his own, to other countries. This to Taiwan. Yes, this apparently happened. It seems to have been Trump on the phone, but I will post other articles on this call later. I need to leave for work.

Also there is his recent call to Pakistan recently, which we were heard about from Pakistan, will not help soothe the India-Pakistan relationship (both nuclear armed countries). This seems to be confirmed.

Quick add as this is now coming up: Philippines...

Yes, its terrible, the guy is actually talking to all the enemies. Why not impose war on them as usual? I agree, Killary would have done a better job.

He will continue to do a lot of things, some people will neither understand nor like and surely not all WILL actually do some good, but I am convinced, his thinking out of the box bears a lot of options for a fresh start in many ways.

..and yes, as some twitter says - China could wipe the floor with the US. Not only China. The US needs to accept, they are not longer THE power in the world, but neither does it make sense to act out of fear.

..and maybe remember, its easy to roar with the crowd, but the crowd isn't always the wiser bunch.

...and I thank you in advance for all the heat I gonna get for this. Don't be shy... ;)

This is what you get from alternative journalism. And they proof, they talk about exists. I have been following this.

Yes, it is terrible. His approach is unsafe, unhealthy for our country. He is going in blind, with no briefing, and doesn't care. It is in no way a good thing.

Thanks for the links. There is a wide range of alternative journalism. Some are valid, some are lies, some are false without realizing they are passing on lies, some promote hate, some promote cooperation. A full range. I suggest people read plenty and use logic, discernment, reason, consider consequences, etc.

You don't know, if there is no thought behind it and which thought. Seems many people just want the same ole, that hasn't done ANY good and is dangerous as hell. Vote for Hillary and oyu get that. At least, its what you know. But I tell you what - what we need now is another approach, since the old one didn't work AT ALL! Give the man a chance and lets see, what comes out of that.Different measures, different reactions. We can't know, what the result will be. It can't get much worse. many say, with Killary, WW3 would be underway already. Well - on the horizon, lets say. I agree. She and her clique were just aching to get into war with Russia and would have furtherly done everything in their power to get their way. How healthy is that? Please tell me.

He has been voted in; that is his chance. We have every right and duty to discuss and scrutinize what he is already doing, everything he is doing now, what he will continue to do.

Yes, @Thunderfinger. And just look at Trump's choices for his administration and aides. Exactly.

Twitter has threatened to ban Trump.
  • Are people in here discussing nicely with each other :-)? Or will this topic become a black-and-white, ultra-left vs. ultra-right, copy-paste news links forum :-)? If it's the latter, then sooner or later we will find peace *not*.

Yes twitter gave lip service to that. They do not ban vile racists very easily; I cannot see them actually doing anything about Trump.

Make of this what you will (different topic; not twitter).

Gustav, there is some discussion here. We have strong feelings at times. I am not namecalling, you may have noticed. I hope other people posts news links, articles that they find interesting and relevant.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-dakota-access-pipeline-investment_us_5841d8f9e4b09e21702e8f58

"President-elect Donald Trump favors completing the Dakota Access Pipeline, not because of his stock ownership in the companies building it but because it’s good policy"
... for the companies and their profits.
The pipelines are crudely & swiftly built, and have a short life span because the tar destroys welds. Get in, get as much oil transferred as you can until catastrophic line failure, get out. And someone along the line pays with bad water, sick children, death, or all three.
    Hail to der Chief. [-(

Yes because the left wing Huffington post is such a reliable news source. I've tried to only read and not comment but some of you left wing snowflake needing space spacers make me sick.

Read a variety of sources, for sure, @Last_Rat_Standing. And feel free to post any link you think is a valid news source. Name calling really just falls back on you; but you know that.

Hey, some of us are sickened by what is happening now regarding Trump. But saying that I make you sick or chrisisall makes you sick, and labelling posters here with cutesey names, is really not necessary. There are two threads on politics - go where you are comfortable and happy. Or post in a civil way on both threads.

You are right about the pipeline, Chris.

Re the recent news that Trump has made a deal with Carrier. Pence is still governor there, keep in mind; so he was able to wield power and pressure there for this. Essentially it seems Carrier has received a substantial amount of Federal and State benefits (and about $7 million) for saving just under or about 1,000 jobs. Some jobs will be lost anyway and certain aspects still relocated to Mexico. Trump is a great showman and publicist for himself, and he knows this will play very well for his supporters.

So we can probably expect Trump to continue doing things like this (interfering directly, showing something "good" yet under the radar many other things happening, not all good as it seems) and touting them as showing him doing a good job for workers. The facts involved are far more complex and not all good. Yes, some jobs were kept in Indiana. I would be happy if it were genuinely of bigger benefit, though I would still be concerned about his approach and still dislike his attitude and way of promoting himself.

As more people are mentioning now (several news sources and individuals commenting on social media), facts do not seem to matter at all with a certain section of Trump supporters. Trump learned this early in the campaign. Image, stirring certain emotions are more important than substance or facts. He has zero incentive to change, in my opinion. But I believe the consequences of his actions will be, at least at times, potentially disastrous for America; on many levels - civil rights, economy, foreign policy, etc.

I am all for jobs being kept in America. Automation, not people being replaced by people, will continue to be a main drain on jobs in the U.S. Also, Trump's (and Ivanka's) own businesses still have staff, and make products, overseas. So there are plenty of layers to this issue.

Anyway, here are a variety of articles and comments on the Carrier deal.

  • In the other, more pro-Trump topic, I just posted this (Is it not a clear proof of how big the polarization has become in US politics, that we now need a more pro-Trump topic and a more counter-progressive topic on here?):
Arrogance? Arrogance? Really, does one really expect that after such a destructive, neo-fascist campaign, full of lies, demagoguery, anger and without any talking about the major issues on hand, the eventual winner would really become the nation's unifier and healer? Come on, give me a break.

Show some realism and don't be naive. The 2016 presidential campaign has created more polarization and long-term destruction than many people in here like to admit. This has nothing to do with being a bad loser. This has everything to do with destroying concensus at much higher speed than we used to. The current president-elect is perhaps more than Obama someone who still prefers to throw dirt at those who criticize him...instead of doing something with it. In ways Trump already shows he has it to become the exponential of Nixon.

He’s the president-elect, so that’s presidential behavior,” Conway said during that Harvard get-together, using mind-bending pseudo-logic, reminiscent of the Nixonian “When the president does it, that means that it’s not illegal.”. Ughh, it's espicable.

Make no mistake: Hillary Clinton is out of the way now, and STILL people keep looking back on her. She is not the president-elect. Trump is president-elect. We have every right to completely forget Clinton now and judge everything Trump is doing. Because even Conway says it no? That's what this topic is about no?

But make no mistake. Trump's four year term will reflect everything we have seen during this campaign. And that's not going to change. And probably Trump doesn't even want that to change. The USA has chosen its own 'Berlusconi'. Deal with it, face the criticism and do something with it.

Basically, people still have freedom of speech to voice their concerns and opinions. When situations are extreme, you will find extreme opinions. I do not feel that automatically everybody please head towards the center is valid; not always. Some things need taking a stand on. But I hope that means in a civil way. I also hope people keep reporting facts and the underlying reasons, things that are happening but not being talked about, all of that. I think the majority of people realize now that Trump will not change himself, his attitude or approach. His supporters are happy with that. A great many people are not.

I care far less about his attitude and approach compared to what he actually does and does not do. No matter how irritating (trying for a neutral enough adjective here ...) he is, it is what he accomplishes or destroys, what he does and does not do, that ultimately matters to me.

Yes, Gustav, Trump's aides have been very clear about stating that facts do not matter to a certain core of his supporters.
  • What do you think of Trump's approach towards Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen? It's now big news atm on "Nieuwsuur".

Well I posted a good bit further up this page or last on his calls to foreign countries. He is stirring things up with China, but it does seem to be impulse calling rather than a planned strategy. I feel him making calls without any U.s. intelligence briefing ahead of time is potentially dangerous and not smart. Yes, it is big news. Not a small thing.

Exactly, chrisisall. So keep looking under stones as well as in newspapers. I dislike labelling for that very reason. Our country is polarized, and unfortunately our president-elect is continuing to stir that, inflame that.

Apart from watching Bond movies & other forms of entertainment I feel that politically aware folk need a physical hobby to help distract them from a deleterious hyper-focus on world & domestic events in order to maintain some small semblance of sanity & reason. For some it's dance, for others hiking or writing. Some volunteer at soup kitchens, go to church or hang glide. For ME, it's gung fu, and model building. Here I shamelessly use my own political thread to show off my S.S.R.N. Seaview model in progress. Keeping sane in in insane world takes real work...

Now I ask, how do YOU balance yourself amongst all the chaotic political turmoil? What grounds YOU physically (not virtually) to the here and now as you surf the web & view the shark infested waters of our Earthly troubles?

Most helpful to me is music - which can be so uplifting, or calming, or invigorating, etc. And that means dancing to my music, too. That plus reading (all kinds - fiction, biographies, etc.) and walking my dog all over my mountain here. All great, really helpful for me. Plus I teach kindergarten kids all week, which will always keep you focused on the here and now. ;) They are wonderful. I'm blessed with a great job, good friends, and lovely home.

I personally prefer Faux News for fair and balanced coverage of current events. And evidently, our rodential friend hasn't been keeping up with the Bond Advent Calendar thread, where our dear @4EverBonded has just presented evidence that Christmas trees need snowflakes... so snowflake needing must not really be a such bad thing (unless you're just a Scrooge.)

Great model making, @chris. @4Ever, give your dog a pat on the head from me. What keeps me going? Various forms of music/storytelling/art/pop culture...and Friends. So thanks for being among them, y'all.

    Gefeliciteerd! Gratuliere! Congratulations!

By the way, I am getting seriously tired of Trump's reactions on SNL. Seriously, seriously tired. Man, swallow comedy with some dignity.
