I've not seen it since it first came out on VHS, and pretty sure it was heavily cut, so looking forward to seeing it again.
I saw it in the theatre in the early 80's- the "R" rated cut. Not bad.
Earth Story (The Gunfighters - The Awakening)
New Beginnings (The Keeper Of Traken - Logopolis - Castrovalva)
Genesis Of The Daleks
Frontios
Got all save for Frontios. The Gunfighters is a bit of an odd one. Some great watching there though.
I'm not a fan of Westerns, so I don't know what i'll make of The Gunfighters.
Nice there must be a sale somewhere ;)
They are excellent DW material, must re-watch them I guess.
I'm raiding HMV's stock. :D Now is a good time to snap up Classic Who on DVD. Single stories are around £6.99, two packs between £11.99 to £14.99 and triple packs around £17.99.
Any reason is fine with me I hope you enjoy these titles I know I do on occasion.
Yeah, looking forward to this one.
I've debated getting this, or awaiting a proper 4K remaster of the film.
Conan the Barabarian
Conan the Destroyer
Proper? Is it not true 4K?
I don't actually mind if it's really 2K or somewhere in between. I actually don't own anything on 4K and don't have a 4K screen, so I'm happy with Blu-ray for now. I feel like I've upgraded a large enough portion of my collection to Blu-ray over the past couple years anyway.
For anyone that's a blu-ray purchaser and expecting to make the jump to 4K eventually, why not begin now? Release day 4K's are typically only $5 more than the blu-ray version, so you're pretty much proofing your collection for the future when you do make the plunge.
Some great extras on Conan th Barbarian the commentary with Arnie and John Milius is a must listen.
Will do
Many blu-rays can be had for under $10 where 4K tend to run in the $20-$35 range. So there is still a fair difference there. But I see your point. I'm now building my Criterion collection strictly on blu-rays, but I can recall back in the day debating between DVD and blu-ray on one title that's now out of print and going for the DVD because I could play it on my laptop. Fortunately however I don't mind too much having it on DVD instead of blu-ray, as Criterion DVDs are still pretty high quality. Sometimes you just need to take these things on a case by case basis.
Maybe I'll enjoy blu-ray until 4K drops to blu-ray prices (same as how blu-rays have now dropped to DVD prices) and then go in for 4K. ;)
So yeah, all releases are not created equal.
That's why I said "release day 4K's", not 4K's in general. You're right if we're speaking about the latter category, but on release day (and a few weeks after), they're usually only $5 more.
Now, if we're talking some older titles when the format first began, then yes, we're talking $5-10 blu-rays versus $20-30 4K's.
Future proofing is only worth it with the aforementioned release day movies. For $5, why not? Still saves you more than waiting years and double dipping.
Well, there's a DVD in it. Now if only Reeltime could release "Shakedown" on DVD, i'll be very happy indeed.
