Blind buy though I love Whodunnit's.
BD398: Inside Man (2006) € 3,00. This time it is not blind buy, but it be 11 years and 10 days a go that i watch it on tv. BD have extra's who earlier only be avaible on R1 DVD (Audiocommentary, Delete Scenes, Interview and Making Of), Europ dvd only have trailers from other movies.
The Burton movie from last year. Blind buy, but it was really cheap and Burton often delivers.
Been thinking of getting this one for awhile. Frank Sinatra, Trevor Howard, Adolfo Celi, James Brolin. Great cast!
My girlfriend bought this for me for my birthday. Never seen it, but am finding the score quite Bondian.
Masterpiece, its a real shame Charles Laughton never directed more films.
Indeed. I love every frame. Wonderful performances as well.
I've hit up a number of online sales and forum sellers so it's a bit varied. Unfortunately with whats going on in the world UK and European discs are out of reach for the moment. I did get some from sellers here in the US.
A few among others (probably too many for now):
The Trial-German Blu-ray reissue
Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse Masters of Cinema Blu-ray
Metropolis Masters of Cinema blu-ray
And as always I buy way too many Laserdiscs. The big finds on that format have been a rare Japanese reissue of Vertigo and the DTS edition of The Long Kiss Goodnight.
I was in a charity shop two months ago they had maybe 20 Lazer disks for £10 each, I don't have a player unfortunately the films included a few of the Rocky films and mostly classic 80's films. Not having a player I could not justify any purchase, at the time I was unsure what the value of the disks were.
I started just for Bond and Star Wars and got hooked over time for the straight forward transfers, letterboxing, amazing art, seeing what I could never afford as a kid, learning about the tech and then became obsessed with the great digital soundtracks of many of them. It's a hobby that requires a lot of patience and research but a very rewarding one as you learn a whole heck of a lot.
On average most discs, especially common titles, should cost no more than $1-10 each. I bought many lots simply for a disc or two because people will look to get rid of their old collections.
the hardest thing is getting not just a working player but one with good clean output. The format is very player dependent and your results may vary wildly depending on what model you find.
I thought £10 may have a been a bit steep, I collect memorabilia so I was tempted to get the Rocky Disks for display purposes. I never owned a Lazer Disk player myself, a friends father had one in the mid 90's so I watched a few films at the time on that player. I just went from VHS straight to DVD.
I did own a Digital Video recorder which was a good piece of kit at the time, it had a lot of cool functions on.
And the soundtrack...
Its good there is some meta commentary that will resonate with most viewers, the film does meander a bit early on though its great to look at visually.
I grew up watching a lot of the TV and films it references (Russ Meyer films, 60's pop art/culture etc) its a lot of fun in that respect. I researched Manson and The Family back in the 90's so I know some of the history, its not vital that you are familiar with Manson Family though.
It wouldn't be a Tarantino film without references, haha! I look forward to finally watch it; I just haven't been in the mood for a film of that length for quite some time. I might try and watch it over two viewings though.
The period and subject(s) should be enough to keep me entertained throughout.
The first one is certainly a masterpiece.
Always liked this Eastwood crime thriller. One of my favorite non- Dirty Harry Clint films.
I have that Bluray I bought it along with the Dirty Harry Box set a few years ago, still not got round to rewatching it. I had the VHS Tightrope years ago...
Simple though memorable cover.
I recently bought
Batman
Batman returns
Batman forever
Batman begins
(all 4 blurays for 19 euro's)
I used to have this VHS edition.............
One Eastwood movie I want to track down is A PERFECT WORLD. Haven't seen ot since it came out. Like to see how it holds up.
I bought a DVD set of those awhile back. I really enjoyed the Val Kilmer film the last time I watched it. Also the '89 BATMAN is tremendous fun for me now.
Yeah. Coster and Eastwood.
I remember it being pretty good, but I'd like to revisit it. May be something I'll order online since I never see copies of it anywhere.
And the digital download of the soundtrack.
