I bought 'Broken City' today. I've read quite a few bad reviews about it, but i'll give anything that has Catherine Zeta Jones in it a look. I'll watch it later tonight.

Decided to upgrade 2 VHS copies of some favorite MGM classics to DVD:

    Scaramouche-563131030-large.jpg

    and

    22318_6.jpg

The former is one of my favorite swashbucklers featuring one of the best sword battles in screen history. Probably Stewart Granger's best film while Eleanor Parker and Janet Leigh perfectly provide a Ginger and Mary Ann balance to the roles of his leading ladies.

The latter is screen writer Ernest Lehman's partial remake of his earlier classic North By Northwest. It rivals Deadlier Than The Male as my favorite Elke Sommer pic. I like the delightful name for her character(Miss Inger Lisa Andersen) though I'm quite fond of the brunette(Diane Baker) in the film as well:

    prize61.jpg

Paul Newman must've had a lot of fun making that movie.

Well, those films I thought I got for free about a week or so ago? I just got charged for them, sadly. :-(

But, it wasn't my fault that they even arrived, thanks to the terrible customer service who ensured me that they would be canceled. Going to call Monday to get a free return slip and get my full money back. Deposited my Xbox One cancelation money into my bank account tonight, so I'm prepared for lots of great deals on blu-rays over the next week or two.

I didn't really like that one. It's allright for a quick Elke fix, but Lisa And The Devil is my favourite.

That 'Oblivion' edition sounds really nice, @M_Balje. I just went with the Wal-Mart steelbook (I'm a sucker for those). The film was so great, I didn't mind the $24.99 price tag. If you've yet to see it and you're a fan of sci-fi, please, check it out.

I didn't really like that one.

Oh, I do. It's the closest Elke ever got to playing a Hitchcock blond. I consider The Prize comparable with midrange Hitchcock kinda like DTTM is comparable with midrange Bond. Plus, it's got that cool Jerry Goldsmith score shortly before he scored The Man From UNCLE and the Derek Flint films.

    prize61.jpg

Paul Newman must've had a lot of fun making that movie.

Love the dialogue in this scene:

"You speak very good English for a non-drinker, Miss?"
    "Greta Garbo. "
"Hmm. Mind if I call you Ingrid?"
    "Not at all."

and the whole rest of the scene where Diane lures Newman out of trouble at the Golden Crown nightclub and back to the Grand Hotel where Elke in the lobby looks on disapprovingly while smoking that long cigarette. Probably my favorite comical scene in the flick.

Went into Best Buy tonight and picked up the first three seasons of 'Archer,' 'Resident Evil: Retribution,' and '21 Jump Street,' all on blu-ray for less than $50. Felt like spoiling myself for Thanksgiving Break.

EDIT: Getting Black Friday crazy. Picked up 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' blu-ray digibook (the right version, not the wrong one I received that I have to return from a separate site), 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' blu-ray digibook, and 'The Untouchables' on blu-ray, all under $24. Fantastic deal.

EDIT 2: Why not? Picked up 'Kingdom of Heaven' for about $7.50 on blu-ray as an Amazon Lightning Deal. It's the Director's Cut, so it's three hours of entertainment.

Woke up at 7:45 AM to take advantage of the (confirmed) 8 AM Wal-Mart Black Friday deals, only to hear that they went up and immediately sold out around 2:30 AM. So bitter. But, I've been selling digital copy codes of films I have throughout the day, made $26 so far, so at least I'm making money!

Just picked up 'All The President's Men' (read great reviews, and it was cheap) and 'Unforgiven' (haven't seen it in forever) digibook blu-rays, and the total with shipping was about $15, which is a nice steal.

EDIT: Cancelled my order. I am way too indecisive. I think my problem is that I have (total) 223 blu-rays, and I'm getting into blind purchases and films that I say "Yeah, I remember that being great," then they sit there and I don't watch them for months and months. I think it's time for me to do a blu-ray overhaul, returning anything recent I really don't want and trading in movies I doubt I'll watch again.

It's a gorgeous looking film, but what took me by surprise was Kristin Scott Thomas. Trashy doesn't begin to describe her character, and the words that came out of her mouth...

    AvP was enjoyable enough.

I guess one has to recognise that neither franchise will ever do what the audience (read fanboys) want them to do. In that aspect AvP was a fairly decent movie with a nice ending.
What I like about the more recent additions to this franchise are Rodrigues' attempt to an oldfashioned actioner invoving humans & predators.
And Ridley Scotts attempt was beautifull visual and did in a sense create more questions than it answered them, it boldy took it a different direction that expected. I loved it.

The 1st AvP is a fun and lighthearted actioner involving those penisheaded aliens and our rastahunters from out of space. It did stay true to the franchise albeit with less gore than usual.

Wasn't sure how close to Christmas I would get to see my girlfriend, and since I gave her a vinyl she wanted early for Christmas, she gave me an early one, too: 'Sherlock: Season Two' on blu-ray. My high-definition marathon is ready before season three starts. I'm very excited.

I just bought Airwolf: The Movie from eBay for $15- yeah, I have the first season on DVD already, but this is the stand alone, re-edited European release with additional scenes, foul language, and removed scenes relating to Hawk keeping the Lady for a bargaining chip to make it a single mission flick like Firefox. Been hankerin' to see it as the theatrical movie presented across the pond...
