Close encounters of the third kind Bluray.

...and much to my joy The Shadow is available on Region 2 Bluray. The DVD version I have has been chopped, looking forward to seeing it in the aspect ratio it was meant to be presented in.

Nice. Would love to have those on blu-ray too. I think CEoTTK would be awesome, especially with the 5.1 (or better) sound mix on MA.

Close encounters has the three different versions of the film, just watching The Shadow now, waited 20 years to see it as it was meant to look. Looks fantastic on Bluray, highly recommend it also has a good retrospective documentary with cast a crew.

    Edit!
Watching Close Encounters the sound is fantastic, opted for the Directors cut first. A few minutes into the film you quickly remember why Spielberg is one of the greatest directors. This film looks amazing!

I have the SpeEd on DVD, with the Director's Cut, so is it worth the hike to blu-ray? Think I already know the answer to that!

@Lancaster007 £6 on Amazon a bargain, the film is shot extremely well. The effects have a lot of grain which I expected, did need some tinkering with your TV setting. Certainly worth adding to the collection, sits in between Jaws and E.T. on my Bluray shelf lol.

@fire_and_ice, grain should be visible, for without grain there is no picture, unfortunately a lot of transfers suffer from DNR which gives a 'waxy' look, I much prefer the grain of an original image. This was very noticeable in a recent purchase, Young and Innocent on blu-ray which has gone back to the original film elements and gives a great picture, but my previous DVD of the same film suffers really badly from DNR, it's bloody awful!
Certainly tempted by CEOT3K on blu-ray.

Agreed regarding the grain, though it's more vissable than I have seen previously. Though the way the film is shot is what makes this a great purchase and clarity of picture, the visual effects are a bonus.

Just ordered Columbo The entire series box set.

@Murdock, be careful with 'Cloud Atlas,' it's a perfect example of a love-or-hate film.

I truly adored the film. Perhaps the best "Deep Sci-Fi" films of the past 5 years. It's up there with "Moon", "District 9", "Gravity", "Europa Report", "Mr Nobody" and the wonderful "Ex-Machina".

I've heard mixed reviews but it was in the $3.00 bargin bin and I like Tom Hanks so My expectations are balanced. I've never seen trailers for this movie oddly enough. And as a Sci-fi movie lover it seems up my alley.

You should really enjoy that. I have all of Columbo on DVD. I'm a big fan!

Me too watched most of them numerous times from tv, I had all the 70s box sets. First time I have had all 69 movies in one set. Love the box set design, very apt being a cigar box. There are a couple of movies I have not seen previously, one being Columbo likes the night life. Was a decent swan song as i felt some of the grit was back after the disappointing Two many notes.

    Recently bought...
    On Bluray.

    Justice League: Gods and Monsters

National Lampoons Vacation Four film Boxset.

    Casino Royale 1967

Star Trek Generations Looks great in HD

    On DVD.

The Pink Panther Five film Boxset.

I bought Sam Mendes' "Revolutionary Road" on BluRay, to catch up with Mendes' work until "SPECTRE" premieres. I love the way Mendes incorporates similar themes throughout his films.

An example are the crowds on the train station in "Revolutionary Road". They are very reminiscent of the Underground crowd in "Skyfall": Both crowds look rather sad...and repetitive....with similar colored clothes.
