    THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Bought the bluray as the cinamatography is outstanding. As is pretty much everything else. The script, the score, the actors. Excellent western thriller which belongs in my collection.

@Thunderfinger, I've been on a roll with that film lately, probably watched it three times in the last couple of weeks. Definitely my favorite of Tarantino's, didn't think he may have it in him to best his earlier films. It's an excellent, nastier version of an Agatha Christie story, with lots of parallels and connections, mixed with the sense of dread (along with a nice nod to a certain bit in the finale, and some bits of score) from John Carpenter's 'The Thing.'

It is practically a mix of The Thing (which I didn t like) and Reservoir Dogs (which I loved) in a western setting.

At least tell me you were impressed by the animatronics/practical effects in 'The Thing.' I'll take that over CG 150% of the time.

I don't think I immediately knew of the connections it had with 'The Thing,' so I went into it expecting the plot of 'Reservoir Dogs' meets the style and setting of 'Django Unchained.' Trailers didn't have me terribly interested, but I was totally blown away with it, probably seen it close to ten times now since.

The effects were OK in The Thing, and the score of course! Long time since I saw it to tell you the truth. And it was of course funny to see "Norwegians" in it. Just found it boring.

It's funny that anyone who knew the language upon first viewing way back then immediately had any sort of twist spoiled for them.

The "Norwegian" uttered in that film was unrecognizable, almost as bad as in X-Files or Twin Peaks.

I thought I read somewhere years back that when it was translated out, it spelled out the twist. Was definitely unrecognizable to me!

Well I bought the HD digital download of Star Trek: The Motion Picure Directors Edition, the version with the enhanced effects.

Very disappointingly it was falsely advertised and it was the theatrical version [-(

It hasn't gotten enhanced yet, so an HD version could ONLY be the theatrical version...

Meant the version with the new effects.

This is what was advertised as a HD download on Amazon, alas it was not that version.

There IS no version with new effects. Yet. The Director's Cut only exists in standard DVD resolution.

It's a HD upscale of the DVD of ST: TMP directors edition is how it's advertised on Amazon, I bought Wrath of Khan directors cut on HD download last week thankfully it was what was advertised. Khan was upscaled though has the grain the DVD has though I am happy with it. My grievance was the version I wanted and what I ended up with, I have lodged a complaint.

He mentioned picking it up since he's never seen either film. I don't recall much of 'Planet Terror,' only saw it once in theaters, but I still enjoy 'Death Proof,' though most claim it's Tarantino's worst film.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly On BD, can't believe it's taken so long.

@M_Balje The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) really enjoyed this film, big fan of Gilliam. The bridge scene with Ledger is ominous and disturbing with regards to his tragic death during the filming.
