Oh boy. This Blu Ray is a big disappointment. The black levels are crap, and the grain is crazy. Increased level of definition on brightly lit non-low light film stock yes, but the constant inept transfer flicker is so distracting no increase in definition in certain scenes is worth it.
Continuing to watch on the standard DVD.... and it IS better. Yep, nice inky blacks...

    Oh well...

:-?? @SaintMark I'll be interested to see what YOU think.....

The Pianist (2002) and The Ghost Writer (2010) - two movies I just saw that really stuck with me. Trying to beef up my DVD collection just a bit more, but at this point I've collected pretty much all the films I especially like.

The Dalek collection (the two movies with Peter Cushing as "Dr. Who", plus the documentary "Dalekmania").

Picked up Deadpool (2016) on Blu Ray, and also took this opportunity to buy some intense action/thriller films I've never seen:

    Ong Bak (2003)
    District B13 (2004)
    The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)
    Running Scared (2006)
    Shoot Em Up (2007)

A few of those thanks to @Creasy47 and @bondjames mentioning them.

Enjoy! It took me a little while to get into 'The Hidden Fortress,' but it's yet another Kurosawa classic in my eyes now.

My college film class 3 years back turned me on to Kurosawa with Rashomon... I've been sort of derelict in following up on some of Kurosawa's other greats. Saw Kagemusha in the cinema in 1980 though- wild movie! The effects of violence without seeing much of it. Back then it sort of lost me a bit as a pure art film, but now I recognize it as another masterpiece.

I've got to be in the right sort of mood for a film like 'Kagemusha,' but when I am, it's an incredible experience.

You need soft lighting, good sushi and saki at the correct temperature.

Know what you mean. I've tried to watch it twice and not got to the end yet, but it looks awesome. Will try again sometime soon.
