    I have these sets.

    Sadly to say they weren't the best made and the latch keeping the cases closed snapped easily. And the plastic flip case holding the DVD's were also chipped in several spots. It's amazing none of the discs were damaged.

    UK had a similar plastic boxset...

    This is what the tin design was...

    star-trek-the-original-series.jpg

    Can't find the tin set, though I had this set on DVD understated design.

    We had those sets too. That was the first time TOS was released as a complete set on DVD with the old effects only. I only have the remastered sets. We also had the Tin ones too but I never saw them.
    Thankfully though I must confess I only watch the remastered versions, BD has both versions the new effects were done so well feel authentic to the 60's look.
    AGREED!!!

    @SaintMark

    A seminal moment in TV history :), I caught the show on reruns In the late seventies I thought many films I watched after the watershed were shot in black and white. I remember watching the Bond films when I was five in my bedroom on black and white. Now I have Spectre in HD on my mobile phone... the world has changed.

    I took the plunge and decided to buy this expensive set. I have every Kubrick film on DVD, but I wanted some on Blu-Ray, and this box set is just too nice-looking to pass up. Big Kubrick fan. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

    I am pretty excited to own it. Though it lacks Kubrick's earlier works (Paths of Glory and The Killing being the biggest exclusions), it's still a great package with many of the master's best hits. Specifically, this collection includes the final 8. Being such a big fan, it's just too good a collection to pass up since I don't own any Kubrick films in Blu-Ray, and I go for my favorite films in both Blu-Ray and DVD.

    EDIT: Luckily, The Killing (plus Killer's Kiss included I've heard), Paths of Glory, and Spartacus (DVD only on Spartacus) have Criterion editions if you're looking for super quality on those ones. I may get those as well at some point.

    Paths of Glory, my personal fav Kubrick film, is getting a Masters of Cinema/Eureka release shortly, can't wait. Only one I've not seen is Barry Lyndon, have to put that right soon,

    Absolutely; Barry Lyndon is one of my favorites from Kubrick, as is Paths of Glory. I actually just ordered the remaining Kubrick films I needed on Blu Ray - the criterion of The Killing (plus Killer's Kiss) and Paths of Glory, standard Fear and Desire, and the 2015 remastering of Spartacus.

    Theatrical or extended? I don't know if I have the sanity to give the Extended Cut a try.

    @SaintMark, you see that massive 'Hobbit'/'Lord of the Rings' collector's edition they're coming out with? I think it costs about $800, though I still can't figure out why - the goodies included seem pretty interesting and unique, but nothing worth the cost. Hell, you can get both extended trilogies for less than $100.
