Jupiter Ascending
Got some good deals from Amazon black Friday week
Just got my hands on this beauty of a set on Bluray
I may have to part with some coin here....
Bought it from a friend it's second hand though pristine they are reluctantly parting with it, not sure of its availability. I have the Dr Manhatton special edition and Black Freight single disk already though wanted the Ultimate cut for years. It's a very nice set with graphic novel included.
I have many of Bogart classic film noir on DVD, yet to upgrade to Bluray is there a noticeable difference? When I got Citizen kane (just an example of a film from that period) on Bluray it was not much better than the dvd I have.
Got this not too long ago. Pretty awesome cover art - my favorite that the film has gotten thus far.
I generally only get DVDs AND Blu-Rays of my favorite films, otherwise I just collect DVDs, seeing as it's less costly and some of the films I like aren't even on Blu-Ray.
Great film I have it on DVD, funny I was debating whether to buy it on Amazon Instant Video earlier it's currently £4.99 I have never watched it in HD. I did not realise there was a 40th anniversary edition, I bet there is some good additional content.
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
Bought them to complete the set of films on BD.
I'm not a specialist, mind you, but I think that at least Casablanca really improves whem watched on HD. However, in cases like this it's better to be safe than sorry, and I suggest checking a comparative review by an expert. This one looks quite complete and insightful.
What aspect ratio are they presented in, some older films from that period I have ended up with 4:3 and not wide screen. Though I think that's down to upscaled video/dvd transfers, Casablanca is certainly one of the better transfers on DVD.
It's 4:3 alright.
Most blu-rays are in the correct aspect ratio - widescreen didn't really come in until the 1950s when audiences had to be wooed back to the cinema because of the old goggle box, although most shot on 35mm would have been slightly wider than 4:3 though most of my really early films (silent/early talkies) were in the squarer format.
That makes sense with regards to giving the audience post TV a entirely new experience, how I would have loved to have seen some classics from the 40s in widescreen though it will never happen. Cheers for that I do actively search for classic films in that format, now I know why I can't find any. ;)
The Sweeney: The Complete Series
Another show I only watch for the ladies :D
I love Piper and am always happy when Danielle (Anne Dudek) shows up!
