Like I said, how well they know Bond and their age.
The internet is full of forums that don't like CR or SF. Tell me, which lunatic forum did they get you out of
;)
Just about post this exact same thing!
For you, sir:

Quite. Still, the hate for TWINE is quite astounding sometimes.
I wear wounds for standing up for QoS and SP (among other films), but I don't get dramatic about it. Fandom is what it is, there's gradations.
And yes, even the almighty Goldfinger is heavily flawed. And yet, it can still be awesome at the same time. *gasp*
No such thing as a perfect film in this series, or one that should have unanimous praise. FRWL is a classic, but we can all be honest and say that the helicopter battle and boat chase were padding the film out, just as we can point out the slumps in OHMSS and some of the logic holes it represents. And yet, they're some of the best films out there, and best of Bond.
We just have to decide what kind of Bond we like, analyze and understand how each film meets those expectation and decide how willing we are to accept its lapses when contrasted with what it excels at.
I see your points
I would like to say that FRWL actually features what is probably the best trio of action sequences out of the Connery era. The famed train fight, helicopter attack and the almighty gypsy camp battle.
It just hit me recently how perfectly rounded FRWL is. It along with CR are probably the best films in the series. Yet my personal favorite is TWINE.
But as you said, we decide what Bond we like and what cocktail the formula must create in order to appease our own interests. Flawed or not a film can still rocket to the top of our list regardless of missed opportunities or poor scripting and what not.
Fandom may be what it is but I would like to see less potshotting on these boards personally. Criticism is one thing, degradation is another.
At the end of the day, we're all Bond fans.
I agree with the potshotting comment, though. Sometimes a movie (as SP is currently) is run into the dirt and treated as cancerous, and often comments about the films can go too far in their criticisms. Even films I don't like, I don't waste my breathe critiquing, and when I do I try to back my arguments up with well thought out points instead of resorting to saying, "This movie is garbage!" or other derivatives of that. It's too much energy to complain, so I let the films I don't like have their fans and focus my energies on the movies that really give me a high, including Sean's and Dan's, as well as Tim's. It's with those films that I find my happy place, and I'm much better off staying with them than marching into a Moore or Brosnan thread to whine about those films and upset the people that like them. It doesn't help anyone, and makes us all miserable.
+1 I sometimes can't give a definitive answer on my fav bond film cuz I love casino Royale and frwl alike
My personal favourite, The Spy Who Loved Me for example, still has a couple of flaws. It has a weak villain and the disco-ish soundtrack dates it somewhat.
Consequently my least favourite, Quantum Of Solace has the great mid air dog fight, and the final tussle with Greene is actually quite good, and probably the one moment in the film that the flash cutting style works.
It bemuses me that people on here trash Goldfinger (I havent seen anyone do it personally, so I am purely going on the anecdotal evidence of the above posters).. On the same token I am not a fan of Skyfall, which seems to be a huge favourite around here.
Connery: 4 excellent( FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT)
1 middling( Dr.No)
1 weak(DAF). Also NSNA if I was counting that.
Lazenby: 1 Excellent(duh!)
Moore: 2 excellent(TSWLM, FYEO)
5 middling(LALD, TMWGG, MR, OP, AVTAK)
I actually dont think Moore has a weak one, just a lot of average efforts.
Dalton: 2 middling( TLD, LTK)
I dont think Dalton has a great one, but no weak ones either.
Brosnan: 1 excellent(GE)
1 middling(TND)
2 weak(TWINE, DAD)
Craig: 1 excellent(CR)
1 middling(SP)
2 weak(QOS, SF)
Me personally I would show
Dr no
Frwl
Goldfinger
The Living Daylights
Casino Royale
FRWL,OHMSS,OP,LTK,DAD,CR
I'd hold off on sharing OHMSS, though, and show it only if the person expressed interest. That's not a film you can just lay on someone out of nowhere. You need the context of the other films that build to it, especially because of the continuity throughout the film.
Yeah and you want them to like the character of bond not think he's a loser
For five, I'd go with
FRWL
GF
TSWLM
GE
CR
That would give them a good idea of the Bond legend with sufficient variety in the mix.
We are talking about the actor not the film, and i feel he is most relaxed and comfortable in DAD,compared to his other films...thats my opinion.
He feels more world-weary and matured in this film.
BEST - DN, OHMSS, GE, CR, SF
WORST - TB, YOLT, TMWTGG, DAD, QOS
Yeah I won't I'm very interested to see their opinions
