What is your favorite film from a "Bond year"?

In my case a Bond film will almost invariably be my favorite film of that particular year. This is especially the case with the older films. Does the same apply to you? What is your favorite film for each "Bond year"?

1969 - Where Eagles Dare (my all-time favorite WWII adventure film!!)

1977 - The Spy Who Loved Me
1979 - Moonraker
1981 - For Your Eyes Only
1983 - Octopussy
1985 - A View to a Kill
1987 - The Living Daylights

P.S. Yes I have seen many other films from each of those years. What can I say? A die-hard Bond fan here!

    Excellent thread!!!! Usually a Bond is my fave for the year as well, though during the Hammer Horror era a few of those take the spot.

    You do seem to have a thing for those Dracula films, don't you? I don't think I've ever seen a single one - not a fan at all. But it's always great to see a fellow Bond fan who has a Bond film as their favorite for almost every year.

    It's also refreshing to see someone place FYEO above RAIDERS for 1981. I think FYEO is criminally overlooked (even in the Bond community) while RAIDERS gets way too much praise. I mean sure RAIDERS is great but folks treat it like it's a masterpiece while FYEO is just "another movie". I totally disagree with this. Personally I get much more satisfaction out of watching FYEO than RAIDERS. So if the latter is a masterpiece then I insist that the former is even more so!

    At the end of the day both are just popcorn entertainment so it really bothers me that RAIDERS is proclaimed as some type of cinematic art whereas FYEO is just another run-of-the-mill Bond flick to watch once and then throw away into the storage bin somewhere. Even if you don't consider it as iconic a Bond film as, say GF or FRWL, simply as an action film it really delivers the goods, and just in that department alone stands shoulder to shoulder with RAIDERS. In fact with the exception of the truck chase in RAIDERS I find the action in FYEO much more exciting and spectacular! And Roger Moore as Bond still runs circles around Ford as Indy. The latter just mumbles a lot and looks sour half the time. But that's Harrison for ya.

    I imagine mine are probably all Bond films with a couple exceptions (Alien for '79, Two Towers for '02, maybe a couple others).

    Forgot this was '63. I may very well choose Le mépris over FRWL as well. My favorite from Godard, and quite possibly my favorite from the New Wave as a whole. Absolutely stunning film. Great to meet another fan on here!

    I greatly enjoy Le samouraï as well, but I think my soft spot for YOLT wins out here.

    Dig Der Himmel über Berlin also. You have fine taste in European cinema.

    1999 was the hardest - I could easily have picked Fight Club, The Matrix, The Straight Story, The Green Mile, American Beauty, Angela's Ashes, The Talented Mr Ripley

    1999 for me belongs to THE GREEN MILE (one of my favorite films), which I prefer even to THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (both by Frank Darabont). Then TWINE is an easy #2 for me. 1999 overall I think was a weak year. Most of the lauded films from this year seem to be really overrated. THE MATRIX (which I've never been able to sit through), FIGHT CLUB, AMERICAN BEAUTY, THE SIXTH SENSE, etc. Actually I prefer stuff like OFFICE SPACE, BLUE STREAK, ENTRAPMENT, or even DEEP BLUE SEA from this year over the above "masterpieces".

    Also I'm a huge fan of films from the 1960s but I can't get over how overhyped some films are, like BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, COOL HAND LUKE, THE GRADUATE, BONNIE AND CLYDE, etc. The true masterpieces from the 60s are the "Spaghetti Westerns" by Sergio Leone, PSYCHO and THE BIRDS by Hitchcock, the works of David Lean like LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, and Robert Mulligan's classic TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (one of my favorites!). But there's so many other great films from that decade - SPARTACUS, EL CID, THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, CAPE FEAR, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, A SHOT IN THE DARK, CHARADE, HOW TO STEAL A MILLION, MIRAGE, ARABESQUE, THE TRAIN, THE GREAT ESCAPE, ICE STATION ZEBRA, BULLITT, THE DIRTY DOZEN, WHERE EAGLES DARE, WAIT UNTIL DARK, etc. Any one of these is infinitely superior to snoozers like THE GRADUATE or COOL HAND LUKE or BUTCH AND SUNDANCE. I know 1967 was supposed to be some type of revolutionary year for cinema, representing the counter-culture movement and social upheaval in general. But today these films are dated and simply don't resonate in any meaningful way. Now, I personally can enjoy dated films (some of my favorite Bond films, for instance) because they take me back to a particular time. But that's not enough. They need to engage me and entertain me. There's nothing engaging about BUTCH AND SUNDANCE. Just 2 guys riding for 2 hours, trying to stay ahead of some invisible pursuers. How many times do I have to hear "Who are those guys?" Yes I know there are themes about friendship and the changing West but it's all presented in such a dull and pedestrian fashion. How can I seriously prefer a film like that over something as exciting and visually rich as YOLT or OHMSS? Oh, and John Barry's sublime score? Come on!

    Yes, but we recieved them the following year in France. It was only recently that movies started being released here at the same time (and sometimes before) their country of origin.

    For 2018: Ant-Man and the Wasp? Disney s new Mulan could be a contender.

    If it s 2019, maybe the fifth Indiana Jones movie. ..but who knows?

    There's no way a superhero movie would make my favorite for any year (I simply don't think they're good enough to qualify as #1 for any given year), much less something like ANT-MAN. How can you even take it seriously with a title like that?? What's next?? CARROT-MAN? SNOT-MAN?? They just need to cut it out with these superheroes.
