Exxon - wait ... Tillerson? Long range plans? For mega profits for the already wealthy, and screw the environment ... and education ... and watchdog for student loans ... and health care. Oh perhaps there are even more connections ... like throughout this entire corrupt administration and far too many GOP in Congress.

OK, I'll hold my snark. I'll wait for something newsworthy to post next (from anywhere in the world).

Leaving this here and I am finished with this topic.

Predictably POS comment from a POS site. PLEASE vote blue to start the wave of change. Even if they suck, they can't suck as bad as these guys.
And just because I like to shock peeps with controversial stuff...
From the 80's they KNEW about climate change, and they SAW the future of rampant Capitalism. They KNEW it would put an expiration date on our ability to thrive as a species on Earth. They PLANNED this takeover all along, and they have always prized winning over everything, even the survival of the Human race. They KNOW no God or Gods, they only want to live as large as they can while they're here, and leave the mess for their kids to manage. The Kubrick movie "Dr. Strangelove" is amazingly predictive of the mentality, if not the actual circumstances of this planet's descent into "interesting times."
    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/

Okay, so.....where's the controversial stuff? What you've posted so far only confirms what we already knew....

    Vote Blue, no matter who.

    Okay, so.....where's the controversial stuff?
Here's a conversation I'm having elsewhere... I'd be interested in your thoughts on this regarding 'blue no matter who'.

Christopher: be outraged all you want, throw your temper tantrum, and watch this country go from very messed up to a fourth relight full-on Nazi regime. We can WORK with very messed up. YOU want us to slide into pure fascism? Wake up from your self-righteousness, unless you happen to come from Krypton and can actually DO something.

Michael: your proposal means they keep putting the boogie man up to scare us into the lesser evil thereby perpetuating the cycle of ‘we’re screwed’. And then will repeat this nonsense again. In fact, if you get your way, how about we meet here again 4 yrs from now to discuss this same predicament.

Christopher: this time it's different. That you can't see that scares the s**t out of me. It indicates how out of touch progressives as a whole might be. I feel like James Kirk in 'A Private Little War' now. Sometimes bad choices are all that keeps us going. Hands in the air means the end.

Michael: yep, it’s different because we understand what’s going on this time around. We see what they’re doing and if we follow along, it means they can continue to do it again and again. So your plan is to let them, fight here and there, then let them again. So what’s happens. We already are a plutocracy yet no one care. Now we’re slipping into a fascist state and now ppl want to fight. So they put up a choice of plutocracy, and because it’s a little better, y’all jump to it. Never mind that we can go for good rather than lesser evil. Hence they’ll keep sliding slowly to the right. And ppl like you will keep slighting those wanting good over both evils, lesser or otherwise.

Christopher: let me rethink what you are saying here... they (both parties) PICKED a Mein Kamph-quoting son of a Nazi sympathizer and maneuvered him into being POTUS to scare us into complacency with more Authoritarian Dems & somewhat less offensive Reps that both work for the rich? Is this an accurate take on your message here? Seriously, I'm not trying to be dense- I want to be enlightened if I need to be. Are we being played in a grand, fully orchestrated decades-long game??

@Chrisisall it only shows the US educational system has been fubar for a long, long time and th lack of proper checks and balances in economy, the justice system, politics and the media (mass and not-mass) have created hell on earth. Funny ho all those right-wing Christians are now following the man who adores the golden calf, who doesn't understand the difference between the ten commandments, etc. etc. If there's ONE man on this planet who'se the epitomy of what the devil is supposed to be like, it's Trump. And this coming from a staunch atheist.

There was a time not too long ago that I could have some sympathy for the “both parties are equally corrupt” argument and perhaps sometime in the future I will again. That time is not now. Now we need a counterbalance to Benedict Donald, and the Republican party is clearly not willing to take any steps at all to prevent the worst of his totalitarian impulses. Third parties are of no use right now, in fact they are worse than useless. You’re either voting for Democratic candidates throughout the ballot in 2018 and 2020, or you’re enabling the totalitarian impulses that have given us this Trump presidency. I’ve supported Green Party candidates in the past and with any luck our democracy will survive for me to do so again. But right now we’re in an either/or situation. Either we put an overwhelming number of Democrats in Congress to oppose the Trump agenda, or a sufficient number of Republicans will remain in power to stifle the Mueller investigation and continue Trump's kleptocratic takeover.

Basically, it is essential to realize these are not normal times. Desperate times call for determined, out of the ordinary (not necessarily "desperate"), think outside the box and a lifetime of habit and perceptions - strong, new actions. Change is not easy, in general. To get the majority of voters to vote a different way than what they have done for years is a huge task. But it is necessary, utterly and completely necessary, for the Democrats (no matter your opinion) to be in a majority to get this Trump administration finished and to move forward with cleaning out Congress. The GOP has proven, without a doubt, it will not do the job required. And I mean required by the Constitution.

So yes: Vote Democrat, down the line. We must have a clearing out and a fresh start. We can deal with whatever issues arise AFTER we make these changes. It is up to voters, after all.

This administration is chockfull of irony, isn't it? They just don't realize it fully.

The "swamp" is definitely Trump and everybody he has chosen for his administration. You couldn't ask for a more corrupt, money laundering, mob-connected, lying, cheating, grifting, greedy though already wealthy bunch of swamp creatures. All out for themselves alone. We can all laugh when this is over. Completely over. I mean, they aren't hiding it any more .. white supremists on board STILL (notably Miller) and more of them also visiting in the oval office (before, yes, but also recently QAnon conspiracy flake meister). And indeed as regards his appointments and nominees, Trump was never hiding it. They ARE the rankest, foulist swamp to ever govern America.

Ron De Santis, republican elect in Florida tells the voters to "not monkey this up" during the elections. It is an obvious reference to the fact that his democratic adversary, Andrew Gillum is black.

Please Florida, please! Come to your senses and don't elect another racist! Such a statement should automatically disqualify any candidate!

Florida is its own swamp. It's such a mix. However, Gillum becoming the Democractic candidate is progress.

Just to note that DeSantis was outed as admin/moderator for a very facist facebook page. He quit it yesterday after that made headlines.

Anyway, hoping for some other world events to happen, preferably positive, that I can post. We need to stay aware and informed, but all of us need a break, too.

The most central question to ask here is:

How can it possibly still be as high as 36%? It has basically been proven that the president has taken part in illegal activity and lied about it repeatedly to cover it up for god´s sake!

I know. But that's the thing... Does really his loyal fanbase make up as much as 36% of the American population? And how can only 53% be dissatisfied with the presidency? The numbers are crazy no matter how you look at them.

You also have to take into account there's a large portion of the population that simply have no clue what's going on in the world of politics, to the point they couldn't even name the Vice President, let alone current policies, who else is who, what they stand for, what's dominating the news cycle lately, etc.

There's a variety of factors at work here. One of them is the "news as entertainment" phenomenon. This allows Fox Faux News to spin facts into a whole new realm of unreality, and people who are wanting to get their news from a certain perspective are free to do so. We also suffering from a "politics as sporting events" viewpoint. My team is my team, right or wrong, and I'm going to root for my team whether they're great this year or not. "Wait 'til next year!"

Well we had some stabbings at Amsterdam Central station today. Two in hospital and the purpetrator shot (not dead) by police. Meant no trains were running and I had to travel for almost two hours to get home (Amsterdam Central is my main hub to get on the train home). AFAIK they haven't given a reason yet, terrorist or just crazy person.

I believe Trump's actual approval rating is far lower. I don't pay much attention to those kinds of polls; sources vary, people lie in polls, etc.

Voting in Nov. is what matters. It matters critically for my country. Trump is now saying he "may get involved " if he "has to" to root out the FBI, Dept. of Justice, etc. He is stepping as close as he can to abusing his legal authorization. It will heat up worse, for sure, before these mid-term elections. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2018/08/31/trumps-latest-rally-rant-is-much-more-alarming-and-dangerous-than-usual/?utm_term=.fce2b105b6f5
To be clear, Trump has been in the past, and is ratcheting up again, rhetoric inciting violence.
    From that article:
“Today’s Democrat Party is held hostage by left-wing haters, angry mobs, deep-state radicals, establishment cronies and their fake-news allies,” Trump railed. “Our biggest obstacle and their greatest ally actually is the media.”

In case there is any doubt about what Trump meant by the “deep state” that is supposedly allied with the news media, Trump also lashed out at the FBI and the Justice Department, claiming that “people are angry” and threatening to personally “get involved.”
Robert D. Chain, who was arrested this week for allegedly threatening to murder journalists at the Boston Globe while mimicking Trump’s language, also connected Mueller’s investigation to the media. “You’re the enemy of the people, and we’re going to kill every f–––ing one of you,” Chain snarled into one employee’s voicemail, according to FBI documents. “Why don’t you call Mueller, maybe he can help you out.”

Trump surely knew about this arrest when he repeated his attacks on the news media Thursday night — and when he connected the media to the Mueller investigation as part of a grand conspiracy against him and his voters.

    *****

I am sorry about the stabbings in Amsterdam, @CommanderRoss. I'm glad you were not near the attack.
