I share your far-fetched hope, sir!
This is a strong statement the Nobel committee has made.
It is difficult to make out what has happened but one thing is sure Kavanaugh's response on this on a whole shows a lack of skill and insight you would expect from a member of the Supreme court. His response was driven by selfishness instead of choosing to be Judge-like and seek to unite a country instead of talking total bollocks. He already showed his colours.
Not only will this not die down completely, lawsuits filed, impeachment called for ... but the other justices on the court will find their own way to deal with Kavanaugh.
Now Sen. Flake has caved (as we knew he would, so predictable) and Kavanaugh is lined up to be confirmed. Absolutely he does not deserve to be on the Supreme Court. There will be a lot of civil protests. There already are. That is our right. But not violence - which is what Bannon has said he wants. And yes, he still influences Trump. So expect that the "left" and "liberals" to be falsely blamed for outbreaks of violence, which we have seen happen in the past (Charlottesville just one example).
Nice to have good news in the world, too. :)
The Nobel Peace prize is a shining ray of hope and a beautiful thing. The committee makes their own decisions and has had "different" choices over the years for sure. This one is so apt, timely, and I'm very glad these two were selected. We need more of this in the world.
And this is a good point, but not the focus of what could impeach Kavanaugh (unless he is criminally indicted at some point). The lying under oath is impeachable, though.
And now I'll go watch TSWLM, one of my favorite Bond films, and carry on with believing that Good will triumph over Evil ... even in the U.S. government.
Let's not forget how the senate is comprised. Every state, no matter how big or small gets two senators. For those outside the U.S., who don't get how/why our system seems broken beyond repair, this is the main culprit (along with the antiquated electoral college).
This is how I view our governments here in Western Europe. Bowing to globalist finance lords, and following orders from supranational organizations rather than serving the people they are supposed to represent.
But we can get through this together. One step - and one vote - at a time. And keep your voice being heard.
That's all from me for today. As for Americans ... we all need to think this through, take a break, then be ready for the rest of this fight for our country, our democracy. And that is not hyperbole.
This is actually a bipartisan issue (the Supreme Court), but the GOP is responsible for this path, yes.
However, we will work together as a country to fix this. It will take time - and history will not be kind to these current events - Trump, Kavanaugh, and those who voted for Kavanaugh.

China is actively seeking to take over the main role in world domination, with a military now capable of matching the US weapons and actively investing in the latest technonlogies and an energy transition which will give it, when oil prices hike (because of the increased demand especially of plastics) the head start it needs to curtail American power instead of the other way around.
But the once freedom-promoting country has fallen into the hands of neo-liberal thoughts, eradicating the limits to capitalism for short-term gains even though it's been proven time and time again this results in monopolies which cripple economies. Like they did in Russia, in Indonesia, and all those countries that were poisoned by this 'economic' thinking from the nineteen eighties (approximately, for Indonesia it started earlier, Russia from 1991 onwards. The corruption under Jeltsin ws it's product) onwards. The poison has come home and is destroying the nation.

The applause came two days ago with Kanenaugh's confirmation.
Nope, said nothing about Trump, you're too hung-up on anti-Trump sentiments. A high-court Judge committing perjury: how is he going to rule in perjury cases? What kind of moral highground does he still posesss in his rulings if he himself has lied under oath? What does 'oath' still mean then?

Because she has no evidence, no police officer or district attorney would ever take her claims seriously.

The investigation necessary to prove this allegation to the point of a jury trial could only be done by the FBI with the President's approval. Any paltry police investigation would only turn up what physical evidence there is now (meaning nothing), and people lying one way or the other. Lying to the FBI is big time. People don't want Federal heat. Lying to a cop is not such a big deal.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will try to handle their new member in the best way for the country. Of course this has hurt the court - it cannot help but being damaged in reputation. @CommanderRoss is right that this is a huge hit on democracy. But also, keep in mind, the court is not limited in number. Other justices may be appointed in the future - and that will be needed to balance the court.
One wishes one were a fly on the wall, so to speak, when the justices realized that Kavanaugh would be joining them.
