I can only think that so many voters in the USA were so utterly fed up with the "politcal establishment" that they have actually fooled themsleves into thinking that Trump has some positives. A desperate form of self delusion or wish thinking.

@DarthDimi .... everything you say is sad but true... I wasn't one that voted for him - i knew exactly what we'd be getting ourself into with him as President.. he's a snake oil salesman without the snake oil.. and the uneducated middle to lower class white folks in this country elected him in "because he's rich, he's a wealthy and successful business man.".... smdh... if any of them peeled back the veneer, just a little, they'd see that most of his current assets aren't worth crap - and he's had far more failures in business than actual successes... this country is so ass-backwards on a lot of issues...

you have the poor and middle class who vote Republican religiously - then every time Republicans are in office, taxes are raised on the poor and middle class, and the economy usually goes to shit, and we are often times dragged into a useless conflict..

we just had another school shooting here - this time in New Mexico... how many of those same people will send their "thoughts and prayers" but don't want any part of trying to pass legislation to make purchasing a firearm harder...

the real sad thing is, is that this country is currently held hostage by a bunch of crusty old mummy fart republicans, who (along with Trump) have spent the better part 1 solid year, dismantling every bit of legislation that Obama enacted over 8 years... it's disgusting...

i hope that this country eventually pulls it's head from it's ass and join the rest of the civilized world one day..... we can indeed be a great country - just not the way these f###s are running it.. we are an embarrassment.

Exactly! What fascinates me the most is the GOP's infathomable control over the minds of the people. How they continuously in every election get the poor and middle glass to support a policy that increasingly cuts taxes for the rich at the top and abolishes all welfare is incredibly! It's like a large scale brainwash of a people!

Perhaps you understand this phenomena better than me? How is it that the American working class can possibly see the GOP as proctecting their interest? Fox News and Breitbart can't be the only explanation?

    Guns n God.

Any party that backs those gets a lot of votes. Financial considerations come way down the list as long you can still buy a massive arsenal and abortion is outlawed.

No. For the majority of Trump supporters economy is the main concern. They just seem to be completely brainless. With a ridiculous ta system, practically inexistent welfare and abysmal minimum vage, they have all the right to feel screwed over by politicians. However instead if trying to see a pattern and support politicians that want to strengthen American welfare, they out their hopes on Trump, simply because he is not a politician, and continuing to swallow Republican propaganda. It's bizarre! How can do many people be so stupid?

This weeks shooting from America :

New Mexico school shooting: Students 'hide in classrooms' as gunman kills two at Aztec High School .

Students hid in classrooms when a gunman opened fire at a US high school, killing two before turning the weapon on himself.

The shooter and his two victims all attended Aztec High School in New Mexico, where the incident took place, authorities said.

No other injuries were reported, and it was not clear if the gunman died by suicide or was killed by police.

Local and federal authorities are investigating what led to the shooting.
Student Garrett Parker told Albuquerque television station KOAT he was upstairs in history class when he heard what he initially thought was students banging on lockers.

As the noise got louder and closer, school officials issued a warning over the loud speaker.

"Thankfully our teacher always locks the door no matter what. So he kept that locked," he said.

"When they called over the intercom that it was not a drill, we went to the corner of the room out of sight from the door and just started hiding."
Some parents reported hearing from their children via text messages that they could hear the gunman approaching.

The school of about 900 students was cordoned off as authorities cleared the campus and teenagers were taken to another location where they could be reunited with their parents.

A crowd of nervous parents initially gathered outside City Hall to wait for more information as officers tried to reassure them about the safety of their children.

All schools in town closed for the day, but authorities said there were no other credible threats to students at the high school or other schools in the neighbouring communities of Bloomfield or Farmington.
Aztec is a rural community of 6,500 people in the heart of northwestern New Mexico's oil and gas country and near the Navajo Nation. Its main street is lined by old brick buildings that date back more than a century.

Residents voiced disbelief on social media, while members of the New Mexico congressional delegation, state Attorney General Hector Balderas and other elected officials offered their condolences and other assistance.

US Rep. Ben Ray Lujan said on Twitter: "While details are still coming in, we grieve for the innocent victims in this senseless act of violence. Too many lives have been disrupted and too many futures cut short."

I have removed my post concerning Trump as requested by another member who felt concerned that it may have been too provocative. The last thing I'd want is for my views to instigate trouble, even if I stand by what I wrote.

I didn't make that request for the record, but was about to comment here, since I was referenced for some reason.

I'm sure most sane people will agree that we don't need to restart the toxic political wars from earlier in the year on this forum. Especially when the same partisan folks will be out and about spouting their usual nonsense.

I want to set the record straight here, in case this had something to do with my pro-Trump thread. During the election season last year there was a thread created to comment, on which many of us did. There were Bernie supporters, Hillary supporters and Trump supporters on there. The vitriol, hate filled commentary and insults that populated that thread were beyond the pale, and yet it was allowed to continue. Most if not all of the abuse was directed at those who were either pro-Trump or at least not filled with Trump-hate.

On election night, when some didn't get the result they wanted, they went into fits of almost foaming at the mouth rage. I had never seen such behaviour here before. Then, that thread was inexplicably closed at the behest of two members, and another one opened to enable a moveonorg style daily twitter rant fest. In response, it was decided that another thread be opened to provide a counter view point, given proper discussion couldn't take place. This is the one I was responsible for. I had a job to do and I did it (not all that was expressed there was necessarily my position but rather the role I had to play). Quite frankly it was tiresome, but there were posters and members who appreciated it being there as a counterpoint to the other thread and who reached out to me privately. During that time I was subjected to abuse, insults and disgraceful attacks from members here (you know who you are) as were others. In time both threads were closed (thankfully) and I was able to move on (pun intended).

I humbly request that the mods not enable these sort of American political threads going forward and closely monitor commentary that is posted for any attempts to shame or humiliate members for their political views. I can take it, but it's not something we should be sanctioning on this forum.

    Thank you.

That the current political landscapes will garner some reaction is only natural. The funny thing is how a president is allowed to constantly lie and be as outrageosly provocative, however when he or his precious fanbase is attacked they claim to be the sorry victims, so much so that comments on a James Bond forum have to be censored. Yet there is no shortage of excuses when your talisman attacks both individuals and entire ethnicity groups, including the free press.

You can shamelesly pretend to have the moral high ground and be the "innocent victim" as much as you want. No one is buying it, and I don't feel sorry for you in the slightest!

I don't need your pity. I should have flagged you on that thread but let you get away with your abuse.

He's not my talisman. You're so blinded by hate and ignorance that you can't even understand legitimate debate. A pitiful disgrace.

    @bondjames

You're righ; I should probably have specified it wasn't you who made that request. I apologise.

Furthermore, I had a moment of weakness, confused as I was that the N. Korean affair was discussed without anyone pointing blame where blame is due.

But, as has been made clear to me, I should have known better. Once again, I apologise.

No need to apologize @DarthDimi. I understand why you feel the way you do and the same with other members. Thank you.

I just don't appreciate the shaming and humiliating that goes on here in lieu of proper debate. If people can't act like adults they should leave the party. Just because someone isn't on the 'hate train' doesn't mean they are pro-everything Trump. However, they are inevitably called out as such.

I still think these American political discussions should be limited here going forward. One can see the heat rising already.

I hope this thread is not stopped in its tracks...I made it to be a WORLD events thread, not American.

America is in the spotlight because of NK and guns and mass shootings,so if you are American you have to accept comments, mainly bad ones atm.

I think the discussion on here has been pretty reasonable and if this is closed then I wont be making any more.

I've been made fun of many times and in many places on the internet. I've been referred to as a fascist leftist, a typical violent American, a bleeding heart liberal, a utopian idiot, an anti-Zionist, an America-hater, a (bad word for black folks) lover, and lots more that I don't even bother to remember... at NO POINT did I feel shamed or humiliated, because A) anytime you say anything in a public forum someone will take pot shots at you for it, and B) most of the time what gets said about me is inaccurate at best and flat out wrong at worst. And sometimes it has made me think... which is a GOOD thing.

Well then, why do you characterize challenging your stances on issues as "shaming and humiliating"-? You aren't making yourself very clear here, at least IMO.

I've explained the stance. I've explained what I was asked to do in response to your behaviour. I've explained my actual position on prior threads. Several times. You've mischaracterized it. Generalized it. Personalized it.

You've demonstrated to me on more than one occasion that you're incapable of discussing politics without making it personal and without resorting to identity characterizations and emotional outbursts. You're not alone, at least when it comes to Trump. I can go back and pull the requisite posts from the old threads (and from my wall where you posted a most interesting message) to illustrate my point but I'd rather not get into it.

You drew me into this above. Again making it personal.

You don't even know what my opinions are. Yet you took it upon yourself to make a post drawing me in and letting other members (some who weren't here last year) believe something about my opinions based on a prior post by another member. That shows nothing has been learned here and nothing will change going forward.

We haven't seen the end of it yet.

And at least I can say that I blame Trump for a lot--not all--but a lot, right? I mean, I can say that, can't I? Like blaming P&W for the terrible screenplay TWINE got. I can still say such things, right? ;-)
