Nah. "Sly" implies he is intelligent. He has sly old buggers working for him is more like it.

He's like a real John Iselin.

Who's he? Google was not a real help.

    The Manchurian Candidate.

Thanks. Been ages since I saw that film, and don't remember the characters.

Did you watch the original or the remake? He's not in the remake (one of the many, many issues that stupid mobie has).

I don't think there's a chance he'll get re-elected. Yes, a lot can happen between now and then, and Trump has a lot of supporters. But I suspect there'll be better Republican candidates, probably better than last time--and many new Democratic candidates too--the one that comes to mind is California's Kamala Harris, former state attorney general. When I saw her speech when she won her Senate seat, I knew she had "it" and is a smart cookie. Democrats will try like hell to make sure they beat Trump, especially given how many of them hate him. I think the fact that many younger Americans are being more vocal and more politically active will play some kind of a part too. But we have to guard against socialism.

This leaves so many questions in my head I hardly know where to start:

    - why do you think socialism is even an option in the United States of Greed?
    - why would it be a danger?
    - Why did you even think up socialism when the closest the US got to socialism was more then 70 years ago when Roosevelt tried to get you guys out of the depression?

I'll leave it at that, most other questions follow the same line. The US is as close to socialism as the pope is to turning protestant. The questions remain though, what's there to fear?

    Two words - Jeremy Corbyn.

The states are safe enough from this (they just have Trump and the population running round with machine guns) but by default, due to the Tories being beyond a shambles, the UK is heading for a Marxist, Sinn Fein/Hamas appeasing PM at the next election.

I can't really see how Jezza can fail to win the election (or, more accurately, should that be I can't see how the Tories can fail to lose?) and then, in the immortal words of the Sun 'Can the last person to leave Britain please turn off the lights.'

You're most likely right that the U.S. would never go socialist--especially if Trump gets in a second term (which I doubt). But many here are clamoring for health care for all, free college for everybody, and seemingly wanting to throw open the borders. I haven't studied the issue but see signs that Americans are becoming more anti-capitalist, partly because of persistent wage inequality--and Bernie Sanders was so popular. This is the only reason why I mentioned socialism, in an off-handed way. While I usually vote Democratic, I'm moderate in most ways, so that's how I view things. I also think the U.S. debt is a big issue that's being ignored, and Trump's recent tax cuts piled onto that. Why, do you like socialism?

If Trump isn't removed from office through impeachment or resignation, and if he survives until 2020 (my $ is frankly on him suffering a heart attack, given his wretched diet and the increasing pressure he's obviously feeling in his train wreck of an administration) he will lose HUGELY.

    With people like this,

Trump could easily win again. Because right now, this is the kind of politicians that gets the people's votes, worldwide.

Somehow I doubt Corbyn will get elected. He'll get close like last time but he won't make it.

This is exactly the kind of comment that makes people outside the US scetch their heads in confusion and frustration. Health care for all is an obvious human right! Practically everyone has it outside the US. It has nothing to with 'socialism'.

I am curious if you can answer these two questions:

    1) Why is health care (and/or free college for that matter) for all a bad thing?

As I said this would not even come close to making USA socialist, but even if that was the case; 2) why would that be a bad thing if it improved the life quality of Americans?

If he runs I think he's got very good chances to win. And that's dangerous for American democracy. But he might die due to poor health: his diet is appalling and not sure he does that much exercise. Didn't he use a golf cart instead of walking with fellow world leaders at a G8 meeting? On the other hand he does not drink or smoke.

How can you be so certain he 'has the EC'? Some key states marginaly vipped in his favor last election. They could easily go the other way in 2020. That is even likely I would add. Republicans are losing ground in several states.

It very much depends on who the democrat nominee is of course. But it shouldn't be a challenge to find a more popular candidate than Hillary Clinton to challenge what is probably the least popular president in US history...

    No he wasn't.

His approval ratings definitely dropped after a year. Happens to pretty much every President, I think.
