Trump will win re election. Trump has the electoral college on his side and that’s what he is gonna play off of. Not the popular vote

If Trump isn't removed from office through impeachment or resignation, and if he survives until 2020 (my $ is frankly on him suffering a heart attack, given his wretched diet and the increasing pressure he's obviously feeling in his train wreck of an administration) he will lose HUGELY.

Trump will win in 2020. Like I said he has the EC that’s what he is gonna play off of. And the White House doc said Trumps in perfect health. So yea he’s gonna be running g

How can you be so certain he 'has the EC'? Some key states marginaly vipped in his favor last election. They could easily go the other way in 2020. That is even likely I would add. Republicans are losing ground in several states.

It very much depends on who the democrat nominee is of course. But it shouldn't be a challenge to find a more popular candidate than Hillary Clinton to challenge what is probably the least popular president in US history...

Sometimes I fear Trump will be the presidential nominee for 2024... and might win these elections!

    No he wasn't.

His approval ratings definitely dropped after a year. Happens to pretty much every President, I think.

Yes. But it is not lower than Trump's.

Yet another record set by Trump, lowest approval ratings in history - I'm certain, anyway, I'd be shocked if there's another President lower than where he is now.

    - why do you think socialism is even an option in the United States of Greed?
    - why would it be a danger?
    - Why did you even think up socialism when the closest the US got to socialism was more then 70 years ago when Roosevelt tried to get you guys out of the depression?

I'll leave it at that, most other questions follow the same line. The US is as close to socialism as the pope is to turning protestant. The questions remain though, what's there to fear?
You're most likely right that the U.S. would never go socialist--especially if Trump gets in a second term (which I doubt). But many here are clamoring for health care for all, free college for everybody, and seemingly wanting to throw open the borders. I haven't studied the issue but see signs that Americans are becoming more anti-capitalist, partly because of persistent wage inequality--and Bernie Sanders was so popular. This is the only reason why I mentioned socialism, in an off-handed way. While I usually vote Democratic, I'm moderate in most ways, so that's how I view things. I also think the U.S. debt is a big issue that's being ignored, and Trump's recent tax cuts piled onto that. Why, do you like socialism?

Not particularly, I earn too much money for that ;-) but because it seemed such a strange remark I reacted to it. As I said, it's like the pope turning protestant.

Mind you though free healthcare and education are not anti-capitalist in the slightest. For a good capitalist knows to have your company running properly you need both your employees and customers to be healthy. And if they're well educated your R&D will be far more profiteable while your smart salespeople end up better then the competition. It's one of the reasons so many European countries (especially Germany) are so much more competitive then the US. But the fear of socialism is so big all logical progressive thinking is thrown out the window (note here that neither healthcare nor education is completely for free in Germany, but with compulsory health insurance and cheap governmental educational loans it does come close to it).

Your wage inequality is indeed staggering and rather stupid: the strongest (most wealthy) have the lowest taxes. So it's extremely hard to fulfill your 'American dream' but very easy to stay rich. Reminds me most of the middle ages tbh.

But all that doesn't even come close to a socialist system, where everything is run by the state. I know Bernie said he was a socialist, but he doesn't have a clue what socialism is about. I'm very happy I'm not living in one of those countries, but I'm also very happy I don't live in the US. That's the other extreme to me.

At this stage, yes. Pretty sure GWB had approval ratings down in the low 30's or upper 20's in 2007/2008.

Trump's highest approval is the lowest of all the highest apporval rates, but he sure hasn't hit the lowest of all the lowest approvals just yet.

Why was the title of the thread changed to suggest God is worthy of gratitude for no one having been shot this week?

I'm fine with it so long as when another classroom of kids gets blown away the title is amended to say '15 kids shot dead, God did nothing to stop it.'

What I find funny about that clip is how even him deadpanning and saying he's pro gun gets a laugh from the audience. Him saying that over here is a joke in itself while if this was in the US the audience they would assume he was being serious at first. Just shows how different the cultures are, to countries like mine it really is just impossible to understand.

I'm surprised how strong Theresa May is going on this, at least in talks. I never liked her but kudos for her firmness on that issue.

But what's she actually going to do?

All well and good Donald threatening Kim with fire and fury. What is our spineless government going to do? A strongly worded letter to the Times? A leafleting campaign? 3p duty on a bottle of vodka?

Teresa and her band of clowns are being mugged off on a daily basis by the likes of Juncker and Tusk. How are they going to fare when they get in the ring with a heavyweight who genuinely doesn't give a solitary f**k?

That's my concern as well...Russia is an entirely different ball game.

She tries to take the attention away form the disaster called BREXIT and their game plan to conclude that in any successful way. You can blame the Russians even if all the evidence is there they still deny, look at the Airplane shot down over Ukraine clearly done by Russian material but they keep "proving"it is not them.

Even if it ends up being mere talk, it's better than Trump's angle - attack and divide your allies, but say nothing of Russia.

It's an interesting point re a distraction from Brexit. Bringing back the cold war bravery of the Thatcher era certainly brings the nation together etc etc.

Whilst it's obviously a story, nobody died and non of the Brexit issues have gone away. It just gives her a few days breathing space.

  • It's not a distraction from Brexit. It is a very clear attack, using a nerve agent for goodness sake, on British soil. I fail to see what else Theresa May could have done. She has done exactly the right thing so far. All the evidence points to this being an act committed by the Russian state, or that Russia has lost control of their stockpile of nerve agent. There is no other plausible conclusion to be made.

There is a lot of Russian money in London, and some of Putin's closest friends would be far from happy at this being disrupted. Digging into this money, freezing assets where necessary; immediate support for the Magnitsky Act, and a possible cyber response (apparently hinted at by Amber Rudd yesterday) are all options on the table.

There has to be some response, however inadequate it might seem. I'm not sure the Jeremy Corbyn idea of having a nice cosy chat will quite cut the mustard this time out.

Will any of this make a blind bit of difference to Putin personally? Possibly not, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, however faint its outline.

Yesterday's man chipping in now in the Cumbrian press, as presumably his opinion is so worthless the major papers would seek Bernie Clifton's opinion before they print Tim's latest proclamation:
    http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/Cumbrian-MP-calls-on-England-to-boycott-World-Cup-in-Russia-dbe5835d-cbe7-4b98-bdf1-fe9ead5c2649-ds

And slowly the deadline ticks down towards midnight and the world awaits Teresa's wrath unleashed....
