    Did anyone struggle to meet the cutoff date for finishing CR? If not, I'd elect that we change it to 5-7 days, if everyone was in agreement and their schedules would allow it.

    It's not so much about what I want as it was me trying to get a feel for how many of us were finished already and how many weren't. If most of us were done, I figured the 10 day schedule could be tweaked since it was unnecessary. Sadly, nobody really chimed in so it's in limbo.

    I'll sit out LALD as I'm not especially fond of it and it's by far the longest. Looking forward to everyone's thoughts though!

    LALD's definitely not the longest - not sure which is, but MR is longer than it by several pages.

    Well it feels like the longest to me :)

    (In my Pan copies, LALD is 245 pages, GF is 222 and MR just 189, but maybe the print's bigger.)

    Ahh, it's likely the print then, as my Penguin Edition of MR is 247 pages long.

    Yes, the print I'd bigger and more spaced out in the Pan paperback editions of LALD, making the page count higher if not the word count.

    True. Funnily enough, Geoffrey Holder would have been excellent for the part! The film of LALD made a mistake dividing the role between him and Kotto. Holder's voice would have marvelously suited those monologues about accidie and Cellini...

    Apologies, was pretty sick last week so I was dead to the world and wasn't doing any reading, but I'm halfway through MR and have been biding my time, waiting for others to catch up. But yes, would love to see some more LALD talk going, and agreed on Mr. Big; he makes for such an enigmatic yet simple and grand villain, I really couldn't imagine them having been able to pull off an exact adaptation of the novel character back then without it looking a bit too goofy, or now without them going overboard with CGI.

    I also love how delightfully gory his demise is, too; a behemoth of a man with an unfathomable amount of influence cut (and chomped) down to size.

    I've heard his name echoed around these parts many a time, but I've sadly never been one for YouTube vloggers/reviewers, it's not my thing. Having said that, I really enjoy LALD, and while a lot of these Fleming installments are fantastic, it definitely ranks up there high for me. It's a cracking good adventure, and the finale is one of my favorites.

    Thanks for letting us know that Calvin is reviewing the novels, @Birdleson. It's been awhile since I checked out his YouTube channel & will have to do so shortly.
