@Revelator Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will definitely go in with an open mind and try not to think of the films too much.

    Hang me!

You could even say that the word has been hung out to dry.

@FoxRox, if I may add my voice to the chorus: in order is best. I always go in order.

Yet now that M has been the center of so much personal crap form '99

How dare you suggest that I'm giving M crap? :P

Finished up TB earlier (mixed up the order, so I'll get to the short stories now). One thing that really stood out to me that I'd love to see in a film someday: the bit from 'The Shadower' near the very end, with Bond giving orders to the men and letting them know what to expect, all for it to culminate in a big battle sequence, something that I've been missing in the series for a long, long while now.

What exactly is are "In" and "Out" trays like those on M's desk?

@MaxCasino Thank you! It looks like I should at least be able to start CR. They didn’t look very long.

Finished the first 13 chapters. It’s so hard to put down, but I want to save the second half for tomorrow. I absolutely love this novel so far, and I love Fleming’s writing style. I’m kicking myself for not getting into these books sooner.

How long have you known about them?

Pretty soon after I started the film series years ago! I couldn’t tell you why I never picked them up before, given I loved all the films and I enjoy reading a good book a lot too. So far I think CR is just awesome. Really loving all of it.

Is it La Vie En Rose?, @FoxRox

Yes - that is the chapter I have up next. Figured ‘A Whisper of Love, A Whisper of Hate’ was a good stopping point given what happens. One really amazing thing is that I’ve seen the CR movie a hundred times, but even then I have still almost entirely avoided thinking of it in place of this original novel. I’ve created a new movie in my head to fit Fleming’s original novel. The one thing I think of most from the movie to connect to the book actually is the look of Eva Green for Vesper.

@Birdleson I get a somewhat original look of Bond in my mind, but of the actors by far the closest looking to Connery. Despite it being the CR story, haven’t really thought of Craig’s Bond. But yeah it’s a hybrid of original and Connery.

@FoxRox, CR is killer, it's a fantastic way to kick off the series. You're in for a nice string of them after that, I hope you enjoy the rest as much as you're loving it now.

LALD is divisive (I think the racial stuff has a lot to do with it). I personally count it among the great ones (at least the second tier of greatness; with CR, MR, FRWL, OHMSS and YOLT standing at the top, as well as the short stories).

We’ll see where it lands for me. I’ll rank them along the way for fun.

It was extremely good. Definitely going to be hard to top I think. It was everything I had hoped for and then some.

@FoxRox, I think at this rate, as great as some of them can get, CR is still my favorite. It's just so masterful and moves at a fantastic pace to me, I love every sequence throughout.

I still go with MR as number 1. In it Fleming manages to give us all of the components perfectly.

I’ve heard it’s excellent. Really hyped for that one.

That's my second favorite easily, it's very unique and I'd still love to see a Bond film exactly like that novel (with certain tweaks made so there's no overlapping of already existing moments, characters, etc.). You're in for a damn good time with that one, too.

MR is my second favourite, too. After GF.

Finished that one up a week or so back - I thought the former half was a great deal stronger than its film adaptation counterpart, but the latter half was much, much more entertaining and satisfying in the film.

I already ordered MR and DAF. I may or may not get to start LALD in the next couple days depending on other stuff I have to do.

It's so easy to fly through them once you get going. I don't make too much progress on them during the weekdays, but on the weekends it's easy to fly through one a day.

Excellent. If you can do that for the rest of the books (and I'm certain you can), then you are in for a terrifically good time.

Went ahead and bought almost all the novels seeing as Amazon has many of them on sale and I had a B&N gift card (FRWL, DN, GF, FYEO, TB, OHMSS, YOLT, and OP + TLD). At some point next week I’ll probably get TSWLM and TMWTGG to complete the collection so I can just read without worry of not having the next one. I still go the paperback route over Kindle or services like that.
