I do think older Bond films never had to endure such dissections way back then. Are we really discussing the bad aspects of cinematography and editing skills for the 1960's Bond films? I don't think so, because they had the advantage to be glorified over the course of 5 decades. Even the bad/less good ones, like YOLT.

There's a reason why probably no one feel like tampering with - or discussing - the colors of the 60's Bond movies: they weren't colorgraded. But glorified? Of course. The Blu Ray of the "bad/less good one" YOLT is absolutely stunning. With the Lowry restaration it even looks better than the Bond movies from the 80's and 90's, IMO. Why would anyone change that already vibrant and natural look?

The colour on the 60s Bond films on blu ray isn't entirely accurate to source.

Neither are the 70's Bonds films. But thanks to the following work, I think that they look more amazing than ever:

Here's a fixed grade, taken from the white, grey, and black samples of the image (so no eyeballing it). Take a look @001.

Like i said ,Bond films should be Colourful and Clear. Not yellow and dark.
I watched FRWL last night and the colours are great.

Bond films should be like the director wants them to be. I think we're focussing way too much on technical details here and let that prevail (or cloud) our criticism about more important things like...story and plot. Ask yourself if FRWL or OHMSS would really have been much worse if they used Hoyte van Hoytema's or Roger Deakins' color filters. This discussion starts to become a bit sad really, and because of it we're only fuelling our boundless and in many ways unfounded negativity of our criticism of the overall final product.
Speak for yourself. I for my part, and I´ve said this several times already, are very much affected by colors and light, subconsciously. Every Bond film up to and including QoS has had a positive effect on me, the last two had a negative effect on me. Simple as that.
And if you want to honor the cinematographers, wouldn´t it be more accurate to speak of color filters ordered by Mendes? If I understand this discussion correctly, the cinematographers have hardly anything to do with the color filtering, since it is applied after shooting, and according to the demands of the director.

Still, I do think older Bond films never had to endure such dissections way back then. Are we really discussing the bad aspects of cinematography and editing skills for the 1960's Bond films? @Gustav, you´re by far long enough in this community to know very well that other films´ cinematography, among other elements, got attacked too in other discussions. Perhaps not as much as recent films, but then there never was made such a big hype about the cinemtographers as it has been done with Deakins and Hoytema.
That being said, IMO it´s clear from comparing SF with SP and both SF and SP with other films those DOPs did that most points of criticism should actually be pointed at Mendes more than the DOPs.

Well, story and plot are important but so are cinematography, sets and music.

For instance, I like films such as TMWTGG and MR despite their ridiculous plots because they are so gorgeous to look at.

Also I'd like to point out that I wouldn't rate FRWL or OHMSS so highly if the films would have had darker colouring.

With the train scene of Skyfall and Airplane fly next to cars fron Spectre i like the sugestion.
Mabey also sugestion of stairs walking in Marocco, but with desert i disagree.

Scene i mist in your sugestion is shangai. Then i mean elevator scene already start when Bond sitting in his car waiting outside of bulding. Macau outside of the Casino. Don't think inside of the casino need inprovement.

Overall Skyfall needs the moost inprovenent because it is digital filmt. Thats the biggest problem, besides that i dislike some scenes . But with the sugestions you did exept the train scene i prefer the original.

What's digital film? My understanding is that digital cameras don't use film - hence they are digital!

You'll have to excuse Balje's broken English. He does his best but in this case I think the implications of what he was saying was rather obvious.

    What's digital film?

A movie shot through a camera with a digital sensor as opposed to celluloid film stock is what he meant, I'm sure!

Exactly, when it takes you out of the film, it's fun to do something about it if you can. I've attacked DAF many, mny times for its sloppy edditing. Moonbuggy wheels that roll around, the alley thing? It takes me right out of the movie and should nev3r have been in there. Especially the alley. Few would have noticed with the original scen (with the streets full of onlooksers) or even noticed it came out the wrong way in the reshot. Now, we got the worst possible outcome.

The true color is much more fitting for Spectre. Skyfall was created with a particular artistic vision that was quite successful. Reintroducing true color to Skyfall draws the emotion out of the scenes. On the other hands, I never realized how much color was drained out of Spectre. Kind of a shame, it could have been as bright and beautiful as Casino Royale for large segments.

@Zekidk no chance of putting more scenes of SP online in your corrected form? I would be very gratefl, especially more from the opening and Marocco.
