Hey guys just looking through some old Bond 23 news. Does anyone remember back in around april when Weisz was rumored as the head of quantum and several plot details were removed. Obviously weisz will not be in the movie but wondering if you guys think some of the plot details will be retained for Skyfall. Here's the link

In particular the parts about swine flu and genetic engineering.

I remember that. It would have been great to see. Doubt she'll be involved in Bond at any time soon though, given she's married to Craig. That just wouldn't seem right. Maybe when his time as Bond is over?

As far as a plot involving genetic engineering, wasn't this sort of thing done in DAD? I think it may be a little too 'sci-fi' for Craig's Bond if you know what I mean.

Yeah. Genetic engineering is too Brosnan (it was done not only in DAD, but also in Agent Under Fire! Which is in the Brosnan era, even if Brosnan wasn't in the game).

Agreed. Craig's Bond stops clandestine under raps organizations. We'll have to see what Skyfall has him do. Anyway, that could be weird for Dan is Rachel was cast but then again I am sure Dan would love to work with her on any film again nonetheless a Bond film. I hope they are happy and remain that way.

if the genetic engineering was somehow tied in with some sort of secret experimentation - kind of like what the Nazis did - and how that was used as an origin for Zorin, then i'd be okay with it...

i am on the fence with the genetic engineering angle - Bond's film world has always been one that is slightly larger and more colorful than real life.. but with an angle like this, you tread that fine line, where it can become hokey... as long as it's presented in a realistic manner, with some strong basis in science and reality - i can buy it.... DAD's problem was it was just too damn silly - asian men becoming european overnight??.. nah, not buying it - sorry.

@haserot - I don't think the report has anything to do with the final version of SKYFALL.. The article was written before Peter Morgan got involved. And since the Rachel Weisz rumour has been proven to be baseless, I don't see why the genetic engineering and supervirus angles would still hold any weight.

i wasnt commenting on its inclusion in SKYFALL... just commenting on use in the Bond universe as a whole.

What if Bond was to marry and she turns out to be the head of Quantum? His loyalties would be well and truly tested !
Would be quite surreal then if RW was cast in Bond 24!

I have no idea whether Rachel Weisz was ever seriously considered to play the villain in Bond 23.

Had she been in contention, those plans were scrapped when she married Daniel Craig (complicate matters) and starred in The Bourne Ultimatum - the bitter espionage rival to the James Bond series.

Would have loved that but marrying Craig most likely put the kybosh on it. :-(

Someone probably just linked her to the film based on seeing them hang out.

Well, I wouldn't say that. 3 films of five years v.s. 22 films of 50 years. Bourne has nothing on Bond.

And awhile back rumors that Kate W. was incensed when Mendes was meeting with, or talking to Rachel (whom supposedly he used to date) - ALL of which is speculation that I have absolutely no documentation on.
I can't even where I remember I read that. It was with a rumor that Mendes was talking with Rachel to have Rachel in Bond 23 - and so the gossip flew about Kate being angry/jealous, etc.

Honestly she will never be in this film, considering Quantum isnt in the movie. I guarantee you they will have a brief mention but no one representing them will be in the flick..

swine flu and genetic enginering sounds like a really bad plot line imo...
  • yeah agreed. i know weisz wouldnt be in this movie and the quantum storyline is scrapped. just wondering what everyone thought about the other plot points, which as @CASINOROYALE put it best, sound like a really bad plot line.

Because while this was still a rumor I thought the description of the pre-title sequence as being an auction rather too intriguing to be just some made up mush by someone random if that makes sense. so you gotta wonder whehter there might be some sliver of truth in these rumors.

i remember this story too. personally i think Quantum will return in Bond 24, kind of like when the early films broke off with Spectre for GoldFinger. Would like "Risico" as a title although i have no idea how that would reconcile with the film?! lol! I think DC will do 5 pictures in all with Bond 25 being titled "Property Of A Lady" where the head of Quantum is revealed as a Woman as that Fleming title is just too damn good not to use at somepoint? Therefore DC will finish off Quantum as his swansong!

I want to actually see James Bond strike out with some women especially a major villain. It's realistic.
