CR
CR
FYEO beats TND, though I do find Pierce's second outing to be a fun ride from start to finish. A more down to earth and avuncular Rog wins the day for this one.
TWINE vs CR, one of my highest rated Bond films to one of my lowest. CR easily smashes TWINE here.
CR
CR beats TWINE 20-4
Round 19:
GE vs QOS
and
TWINE vs QOS
TWINE over QOS by an even larger margin
TWINE vs QoS
TWINE
QOS
QOS beats both into bloody pulp.
QoS is a bold, high-octane film with some special moments. Mathis dying in Bond's arms, Greene's ironic death, and Bond finding his solace with Vesper - wrapping up Casino Royale in a pleasing and respectful way. Craig's no-bullsh*t approach is oozing with testosterone and it beats the hell out of Brosnan in either GE and TWINE (as much as I do appreciate those).
However, when looking at the films as a whole, QoS withers in comparison. The ensemble cast in GE must be one of the greatest; nobody misses a mark and they elevate the story far beyond the script. TWINE's cast is similar with Marceau and, yes, Carlyle, giving it their best. The plots are way more intricate and interesting for me personally. In contrast, I only care about Bond's 'vengeance' in QoS and only because of CR. Nothing newly introduced interests me.
Then there's the worst editing ever presented in a Bond film. I know they wanted to do something artsy and say that it reflects (/creates) the tone of the film, but they obviously didn't have the time or the skill to pull it off and it is objectively horrendous. The longest shot is like 20s! I think there's a median cut of like 3 to 4 seconds and you just cannot appreciate any of it. And then the film isn't even 2h long! They should count themselves lucky that it came out only two years after CR and not four.
GE+TWINE over QoS.
QoS destroys TWINE.
TWINE
And if it were and other two films vs QOS, whichever two they might be, QOS would still loose.
QOS beats TWINE
Easy picks for me.
My opinion: GE is the best Brosnan Bond movie, while QOS is probably the worst (at least along with SP) Craig Bond film, if only for its lousy editing.
GE beats QOS.
But TWINE being so close to being a total POS like DAD, QOS beats it hands-down and shines like a beacon of filmmaking excellence in comparison.
TWINE barely wins though
GE vs QOS
and
TWINE vs QOS. Probably the only time TWINE gets my vote.
The only time it will get mine is vs DAD.
QoS has very few redeeming qualities, but it is short at least.
