CR over DAF
As has been said. An easy round.
CR
CR (1) vs. DAF (22) - Easy Round
Should be virtually unanimous.
CR - same, but this time its Craig and Campbell
I recognize that CR is a better film but, and call that melancholy, it just doesn’t give me that special feeling.
DAF over CR (CR is the better film but I enjoy DAF more)
Same here....
CR vs DAF - not so epic beating, because I too enjoy many elements of DAF immensely, particularly the dialogue and overall distinct charisma of the film. CR is a superior product overall, but it's a bit melodramatic towards the end.
CR over DAF equally so!
The first was a really difficult choice but TB seems kind of a slog in places where as DAD just keeps moving at such a high pace.
DAF v CR - The only argument someone can possibly make for DAF is born of misty eyed nostalgia. The only elements it betters CR in is witty one liners and fun, if incompetent, henchmen. A thrashing by CR.
Certainly one of the easier rounds.
CR is among my top four, while DAF is down there a few notches above the bottom.
CR
And a better soundtrack!
CR - I also enjoy DAF for what it is, but come on, this is CR we're talking about.
CR. One of the films to rival the 60's classics.
CR over DAF
CR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> [end of the universe]>>>>>>>> ...
CR beats DAF
both 21-2
Round 39:
TMWTGG vs AVTAK
and
LTK vs QOS
TMWTGG vs AVTAK - I much prefer Rog's sophomore entry to his last. Nearly everything about it is more interesting for me. I think AVTAK's greatest failing is John Glen. He seems to be asleep at the wheel for this outing, and the film suffers as a result, despite solid performances from a lot of the cast.
LTK vs QoS - I've never bought into this narrative that QoS is one of the best. It's distinctly middle to lower of the pack for me, saved by a great Craig performance. I was quite disappointed walking out of the theatre in 2008. LTK on the other hand is a top 10 entry of mine and I think it's great despite the shoddy production qualities and hammy acting in places. It's a film I detested during my youth, but truly appreciate these days.
Same for me.
Both are utterly absurd, full of subplots that go nowhere and attempts at comedy which fail miserably. However, AVTAK has a few technical saving graces and a Roger Moore who is both adorable and surprisingly serious. Also, the blonde from AVTAK is always welcome to use my shower; the blonde from TMWTGG... nah-ah!
LTK
This was a tough one for me, since QOS has grown on me in a very positive way. I can't decide between Dalton and Craig either. And LTK makes mistakes which QOS manages to avoid simply because it's so short. However, QOS had it easy; LTK not so much. LTK was a Craig Bond long before Craig was even considered as Bond and especially long before audiences would welcome the tough, aggressive Bond with open arms. LTK went for the very thing neither critics nor audiences were willing to accept from him at the time. If nothing else, LTK commands my respect for trying. But there's more. I'm not sure why so many people hate on Robert Davi. Sanchez is a perfectly good if not great villain, grounded in reality as well as knee-deep in the Fleming tradition of being slightly "off". Bond's quest, while replaying a handful of classic films, was a fresh, different and fascinating side-story in a long tradition of fairly straightforward and relatively impersonal missions. It's bad enough to have Bond as an enemy if you want to engineer a war between the West and the East; it must be even worse if you did something to one of Bond's closest friends. Every time I watch the film, I love the exciting prospect of Bond crippling Sanchez' entire operation down to bits. And then there's the indisputable power of the climax. It takes its time, yet it never slows down. Like one electric current chasing another, Bond goes after those trucks with determination and unbreakable resilience. And absolutely nothing in QOS is as cool as this:
LTK v QOS: Another very close one. Both middling to bottom half entries for me. Both fairly simple plots and excellent performances by the leading man but where LTK nicks it is with a better villain (although I'm a fan of Almaric) and two fabulous action sequences in the waterskiing and tanker chase.
LTK edges out QOS. Frankly though, both are great, underrappreciated (by the public), and unique Bond entries. Love them both.
LTK over QOS
LTK over QOS - I watched Quantum yesterday and actually enjoyed it. However I've enjoyed LTK since I first saw it. Great performances from Dalton and Davi.
QOS
