Peter Griffin "I did not care for the Godfather"
At least Homer Simpson loved Octopussy. ;)
He saw the movie at least TWO times! :D
Now that's dedication! ;)
"You know what's great about you English? Octopussy. Man I must have seen that movie...Twice."
:))
As much as I want to see QT’s 10th and (supposedly) final film, I can’t argue with the article. It feels like ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD is a finale for QT, personally. If theaters aren’t up and going by 2023 (QT’s 60th birthday, his planned retirement), he’s going to call directing quits sooner. I would love for him become a novelist. I would love for him to write more Django adventures and Double V Vega.
Interesting piece, and I agree that DEATH PROOF is subpar, but THE HATEFUL EIGHT? It is among his best.
I have to say I agree with this, sadly.
The love the way this gentleman talks. :-)
Not a film noir I'm as well versed in, like say THE BIG SLEEP, so I recently purchased a 50th anniversary DVD edition to compare the different edits.
Controversial opinion:
I actually like the theatrical version and quite like the titles over that opening shot.
I'm at this moment of writing watching the "preview" version which also has the titles.
Other than that I really haven't studied the film well enough to differentiate the different versions.
Soon I'll re-watch the restored cut and see how it fares.
Take the children. Some say they don't belong in a Mad Max movie. And while they are no "Feral Kids", I love their lingo, their acting, the purpose they give Max. Are they the "Ewoks" of the MM universe? Possible. But I don't mind. Also, the first half of this film is brilliant. Bartertown, Aunty, Master Blaster, the cage fight, ... George Miller is a clever man with an epic vision. Then there's 'We don't need another hero!' Come on, that song is perfect! All in all, the MM quadrilogy is a great achievement, and I like 'em all.
There are only three Mad Max movies.Fury Road was a Furiosa movie with some guy called Max played by Tom Hardy as a supporting character.
You are mad, sir, Mad AstonLotus. 😉
The misstep for me with Thunderdome is the heart and soul absence of late Aussie composer Brian May who scored the first two Max films with his symphonic, epic signature on the Hero With a Thousand Faces from Down Under. Maurice Jarre's music is excellent at times and on its own, but the jazzy-Spielbergy moments just gut what could have been made in Max's world instead of the MTV vein.
Tina Turner's intro and outro work fine, great songs and there is a rock thread through the films anyway. Between those there should have been a core focus on Max's world.
Fury Road? Holy crow it's on the same level as Max Max 2 in a different fast lane. Max OWNS that movie don't get me started on the many ways he does. George Miller is the film genius the trailers proclaimed him to be. What an unbelievably successful film creation overcoming untold production obstacles to stay true to Max's world. Words fail to accurately describe this point.
I am posting this here as I am sure it will get backlash I am happy Cavill is the new Highlander though I still don’t know if he will be Conor Duncan or some other Scottish name (all of the various Highlander spin-offs got their own first name Duncan in the tv show Owen in the abandoned video game Quinten in that animated series no one talks about Collin for the anime)
Screw it the reboot should Be Angus Macleod lol
It will be interesting to see what they come up with. The first Highlander was one of my favorite films and I still enjoy it. Except for 2, which maybe ruined it for me, I never saw any of the other sequels and sporadically watched the TV series despite a lame first season. It became harder to find after that as they didn't syndicate it in my area. I liked Adrian Paul in it, though. Thought he could've been a potential Bond.
As for the reboot, good to see Cavill cast.Id like to see David Harbour as The Kurgan and Antonio Banderas as Ramirez.
@ToTheRight. I’m eager to hear what you think about the “restored” version. I’ve just completed watching that version of “Touch of Evil”, and while I’m aware that Wells implored the studio to release something closer to his original vision (i.e., the 58-page memo), I curious to see the theatrical version myself.
As for “The Big Sleep”….well that is another film with a somewhat complicated editing history!!!
I agree. I like it a lot. It could just have been a rehash of part 2, but thankfully it's an ambitious film that expands on the ideas from the previous film.
Could Kevin Spacey get a comeback? If he did, I unfortunately could see him and his name becoming like Woody Allen. I think Kevin’s a great actor, but I think fate will decide if he can ever get back to the top.
Watching the '98 edit now, @Dwayne .
This seems to be a situation where a re-edit of a classic film has completely replaced the original. I can see why as it's carefully done based on Welles' memo.
I usually prefer theatrical releases to re-edits. Here I can go either way. I like both. I do like the credits and music opening the theatrical version, though.
Oddly, I find revisions of classic films to often be more of a curio than definitive version. I prefer the Lester version of SUPERMAN II to the 2006 Donner re-edit for instance.
I also prefer the finalized version of THE BIG SLEEP to the pre-release version.

I agree with them. While GL wasn’t the strongest screenwriter, he did have strong vision when directing. He should have directed more feature movies than the six that he did. Probably shouldn’t have written them though.
You and me both! Never liked it!
I watched it once, when I was a child, so I can't comment.
