That's one that I almost wish actually happened.
The dumbest rumor was Robbie Williams being cast as Bond. Just dumb.
- Idris Elba to be cast as the next Bond (I wouldn't mind a coloured Bond!)
- Daniel Craig can't drive a manual so had his double do the driving scenes
- Sean Connery comesh out of retirement to play the villain
Sadly, it was not a rumor. Thankfully, it remained a bad idea that never became reality.
--Spinoff movie featuring Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin (the spinoff idea was floating around before Jinx).
--There was a New Zealand rugby player who was briefly cast in an unspecified role in The World Is Not Enough. While speculation was running wild over what the role might be, there appeared a rumor that he would be playing Oddjob. He ended up having to bow out because of a scheduling conflict, so we never found out for sure.
--I recall a rumor back in 2002 that Mike Myers would make a cameo appearance in Bond 21, to be reciprocated by a Pierce Brosnan cameo in Austin Powers 4. Of course, at the time no one knew that Die Another Day would be Brosnan's last, or that there would be no AP4. Still, one of the sillier rumors I've ever heard.
This was my favorite because it was during that time while Halle Berry just wanted to breakout into super stardom. She was Jinx with the set up spin off, demanded more screen time in X-Men 3, became Catwoman, and was Gothika. Flop, flop, flop, and flop.
That Skyfall would be the last Bond movie since Jason Bourne is the new James Bond.
lolololol
From comments she made while the Jinx movie still seemed to be in the works, Halle honestly seemed to believe that she was going to be the Connery-like founder of a new mega-franchise. I almost feel a little bad for her.
Of course, I'd probably feel a good deal worse if the Jinx movie had ever made it to theaters.
I don't hate Halle Berry, I just remember her being a bit self absorbed at that time, like a 3 year period after she got her Monster Ball Academy Award. Or I was more antagonistic back then... It could be either one. But yeah, I remember being really nervous about that Jinx franchise coming out.
Yeah, that that one is rich, isn't it? Kind of like the Mission: Impossible II publicity campaign, which, as I recall, included stars of the film discussing why Ethan Hunt is better than James Bond. Or Vin Diesel's belief that he could steal 007's thunder by doing a "young & hip" version of the concept.
Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the Bourne movies quite a bit. In the end, however, Jason Bourne originated as Robert Ludlum's homage to James Bond, and that is what Bourne will always be.
It's not really a rumor but I remember Sean Puffy Comb saying he wanted to be the next James Bond, or the world's ready for a black Bond, something to that effect.
Circa 1998-99, word was that McClory was trying to turn his 'Thunderball' rights into another feature film, this one to be titled Warhead 2000 A.D., and supposedly slated to open with Midnight showings, New Year's Day 2000.
Of course, there was the inevitable rumor about Catherine Zeta-Jones as the female lead. For several years, Zeta was rumored to be in every upcoming Bond movie, EON or McClory. Rumors also swirled that McClory had engaged Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich to produce and direct the picture.
Then, McClory dropped his first bomb. He announced that WH2K would feature three former Bonds: Timothy Dalton as James Bond, George Lazenby as M, and Sean Connery as "the Villain." Of the three, only Lazenby expressed any interest.
When that didn't generate sufficient buzz, K-Mac really stirred the pot by announcing that Sean Connery was going to return as James Bond. This announcement really got the world's attention, and prompted speculation that WH2K was going to be the fabled "Last Bond." But then Connery himself announced that he had no idea what Kevin was talking about, and he wasn't interested, besides.
Finally, K-Mac announced that he had cast Liam Neeson as James Bond in WH2K. This generated some mild buzz, and I can recall at least one entertainment journalist writing a lengthy column about why Neeson would be a better Bond than Pierce Brosnan. Once again, however, the actor in question seemed to be the last one to hear about it.
She was a bit arrogant then, she had become a star and was less of an actress. The flop of Catwoman gave her a healthy dose of humility that suits her better. I think she was the most, and maybe the only, enthusiastic Jinx spin off supporter.
If we are to believe Michael and Barbara, the Jinx Spin-off might not have been that bad. Apparently it was a bit like CR, much more down to earth and a real spy/detective story. I for one would have really liked to see what they could do with the Jinx character in a down to earth spy thriller.
Boy, McClory sure is difficult to like! Reading this I remember why I despise the man.
Do you remember the Dale Winton to play Bond one? That is my all time fave rumour ever. (Just because it's so funny)
Goran Visnjic. I remember a lot of fans of ER originally not liking him as his character was such an obvious George Clooney 2.0 after Clooney left the show. But he showed some real acting chops IMHO and I could see him being a bridge between Brosnan's and Craig's interpretations (something I could also see Hugh Jackman as having done). I thought that he really was considered and progressed some way in the casting progress. Of course the most important question was whether or not he could convince as an Englishman...
I remember he had some enthusiastic supporters.
And I think he's actually Croatian, not Serbian.
Yes, Croatian. And a fine actor in my opinion. He's with Craig in TGWTDT and hopefully the next two as well.
Another rumored title for Bond 18 (TND) was "Aquatica."
