I hate to say it, but for me she will always be Emma Peel first, and Tracy only as an also-ran. The Avengers was the first series that my parents allowed me to watch after 9 p.m. when I was ten, every Tuesday night. Black-and-white, by the way, our first colour TV came in 1972.

I don't think I ever saw OHMSS before the 1990s. It just wasn't a formative influence for me, and I always thought "There's Emma pretending to be Tracy."

Nevertheless, R.I.P. to maybe the first woman I had a pre-adolescent crush on.

PS: Never saw the slightest tidbit of Games of Thrones. And hate Theatre of Blood.

I've been moping around all day at this news. She really was the heart of the series.

Very sad to hear of the death today of the beautiful and immensely talented Dame Diana Rigg, the one and only Mrs Bond. One of the best and most fully-rounded Bond women from the best Bond film, OHMSS.

The very best Bond girl in the very best Bond film.

    So very sad.

    Goodbye Tracy

Terrible news to get from my brother by text this afternoon about Dame Diana. A great actress. We were lucky to have her in not only Bond, but that other venerable spy series, The Avengers.

It was on a Friday night 40 years ago that I caught an ABC network broadcast of OHMSS, that solidified my love for that film, then a half-hour after OHMSS finished, the CBS network showed a color episode of The Avengers and made me a solid fan of that show.

I'm a huge fan of OHMSS and The Avengers to this day. Patrick MacNee must have said "Mrs. Peel, you're needed" in Heaven.

Just woke up to this sad news. Can't quite believe the wonderful Dame Diana Rigg has left us. A brilliantly talented actress, who gave us as Bond fans, one of the most memorable Bond leading ladies in Tracy.
    RIP

I have to agree that while she was a great actress and great Bond girl she was never the quintessential Bond girl to me. It’s just that when I think of Bond girls I immediately think of Honey Ryder, Pussy Galore, Solitaire, Anya Amasova. Maybe it’s because she wasn’t the typical Bond girl (she married Bond) and she wasn’t in your typical Bond film. It’s the same reason I don’t think of Lazenby when I think of Bond or Savalas when I think of Blofeld.

Honey, Pussy, Domino, Fiona, Solitaire, XXX, Naomi, Melina, Octopussy - that’s who I think of when I think of Bond girls. I guess I tend to think of the Connery and Moore girls. The best looking in the series by far!!!

As sexy as many of the others have been, and I don't want to take anyone down here, but Dame Diana gave us a character with a heart. A convincing, troubled but likeable human being: Tracy di Vincenzo. That is why Diana will always be the leading Bond lady to me.

OHMSS's tragic ending always tears me up, yesterday I did not need the 1969 masterpiece to do so.

My flatmate (who is a huge Avengers fan) and I watched a few B/W episodes last night, while drinking champagne (well, 'British sparkling wine'). @mattjoes, one was The House That Jack Built.

I was lucky enough to see her in Medea, probably the best thing I've ever seen in the theatre - a happy side effect of Latin A level and a school trip.

From The Avengers to OHMSS Diana Rigg was omnipresent in my house as a kid, my parents were big fans of The Avengers sad news as certainly in the UK Diana was very highly regarded, great character. R.I.P.

    diana-rigg-on-beach.png?w=529
That image of her on the beach is in fact from EVIL UNDER THE SUN, which is second only to OHMSS as far as my favorite Rigg performances.

Bad year for Bond girls. Just last year all the Bond girls were still with us. But this year we lost 3 main Bond girls - Domino, Pussy, and now Tracy.

I own all the Peter Ustinov Poirot films, I posted the picture as it was a great shot of Diana.

She was hilariously bitchy in Evil Under the Sun. I'll be watching OHMSS (again) and Theatre of Blood in tribute to the splendid, talented and beautiful Dame Diana Rigg.

If you've never seen it before, it's wicked fun and she's a blast. She also shares great chemistry with Vincent Price, who is also hilariously deranged.

I watched OHMSS again last night. I couldn't stop smiling wistfully every time Tracy comes on screen. Will be revisiting episodes of the Avengers today, including those I haven't seen before. And I'll continue my tribute/celebration of Dame Diana Rigg on the Bond Girls Friday thread today as well.

Never seen The Avengers, but that was great. Charm overload.

Emma Peel kicked ass literally, Joanna Lumley (OHMSS) was also in The New Avengers as Purdey several years later. (And Honor Blackman was in the show before Diana Rigg)

The Avengers has a lot of Bond connections.

A touching tribute from George Lazenby.

    That’s terrific.

George is a great man, touching words from him. RIP Diana.
And to add: loved her role in Game Of Thrones.

Wow. First Honor Blackman in April and now Diana Rigg. It's like a double shock to me. I've been aware of Ms. Rigg ever since I saw reruns of the old "The Avengers" series when I was a kid. You know what? I don't know what else to say. The news was a bit of a shock to me. R.I.P. Ms. Rigg. You will be missed.

And Claudine Auger in December. The first main Bond girl to go. She wasn’t even that old.
