I’m sure it’s as nuanced as Doomcock.

But, have not listened, you can’t really know.

    Moving on…

I’ve listened to enough over the years to know he’s playing to a very particular audience and that’s how he gets his income. That’s how other Fandom Menace like Midnight’s Edge works.

And if you always have to whine for two hours on every video you make, I can’t imagine a more miserable existence. I guess the money is that good.

Robert Meyer Burnett is a very good American film commentator. He always gives intelligent and insightful comments, and never whines. Thank you @talos7 for posting the link. I'll certainly give it a good listen.

Interesting, another Bond fan who views Skyfall as where the Craig era went wrong. We are few but proud.

It’s interesting that he sees it as a well made, entertaining film and recognizes that it is a well crafted film , but is right in saying that it took the Craig era in the wrong direction.

He like so many others also misses the point by not considering that Craig Bond is Bond recontextualized for the 21st century. Like, sure, if you want to see how a Bond would behave in the 1950s, you’re never gonna get that in 2020s, unless they go period piece. Fleming Bond would have never deserted like in SKYFALL. But Craig Bond isn’t Fleming Bond. The context and attitudes of the times are much different.

Calling his show "Robservations" already rings an alarm or two.

Oh , he, and others do get that Bond was decontextualized for a different era; he, and we agree that it was beautifully handled in the classic CR. The problem is that they kept building on a brooding, broken Bond

MI handled the humanizing of Ethan Hunt much more deftly; MI3 gave him a personal story that separated him from other spy characters, but in subsequent films they didn’t dwell and build on it. His wife made appearances but he was not entangled with her .

Is it Opposite Day and nobody told me?

Someone should tell him an observation isn’t the thing as an opinion.

For some (much) better content, FilmSpeak just dropped the NTTD video. I only had a peripheral level of involvement with this script so I don't feel as biased sharing it as I did with the one we did on CR, which I wrote entirely.

Well isn’t that the nature of things that are opinion based?

Opinions are arrived at via observation.

“Objective opinion” is also an oxymoron.

Rob Burnett worked in the industry as a video documentary maker. He recently made a comedy film about Jewish dancers.

He is a life-long James Bond and Star Tek fan. He described NTTD as a crushing disappointment. He bemoaned the lack of fun and optimism in the Craig era although he described Casino Royale as one of the best films of this century.

He should watch DAF. It’s in my top 10.

Love how DAF is being brought up everywhere at every opportunity at the moment. Honestly, these threads are giving me a chuckle. Sometimes I feel like they get on track and then suddenly DAF. Just DAF.

    That would be my fault.

    I unironically love DAF.

I have not watched the video by Rob V, but judging from @talos7 's comments, I will take a pass. I appreciate that people post videos they enjoy or agree with. I simply don't watch all of them.

From what you mentioned, Talos7, it seems I would disagree with his take on Skyfall and I don't often feel like listening to shows that go on in a negative way about a film I like a lot, or a Bond actor's era that I like a lot. So I'll skip it as I don't find it entertaining to listen at length to viewpoints that are strongly opposite from mine - unless a lot briefer, I mean, or if I feel like really analyzing a film. And of course civilly done (his may be; I am not saying it isn't). My point is: I am not out to change your opinion (all of you) and you won't change mine; not really. Film is subjective. That's art for you. We are blessed with 25 Bond films that give us such a variety. Some fandoms don't have that much material to enjoy; we are lucky.

I just wanted to take a moment to explain that I respect we all have our own favorites and views, on all the Bond films and actors, but I think it's okay if we don't care to listen to videos or read articles people post here. It really is a smorgasbord, this forum. I pick and choose according to what I like to spend time mulling over. B-)

I really appreciate you thoughtful, respectful response that doesn’t contain a hint of passive aggression. I posted something that strongly reflects how I feel about NTTD; I don’t expect everyone to agree, far from it. It’s frustrating when someone with a differing view takes it personally and responds defensively.

@bondywondy ... I will now change my opinion re: NTTD because Robert Burnett made a comedy about Jewish dancers and found the latest Bond film crushing....

I have just returned from another viewing of NTTD. I don't get all the no-fun criticisms. This film is such good fun IMO.

Completely agreed. I thought it was a blast from start to finish, even throughout the slower London sections in the middle.

Exactly. I agree that the film has some serious and dramatic moments, but it all feels quite balanced. My crowd today cheered several times, which is unusual for us, Flemish. 😉 The "book of mormon" line received a lot of laughter, by the way. But overall, "fun" isn't just about laughs for me. Cool Bond can be fun too. Even during the climax, with the video game shooter dynamics and the little gun-barrel moment, I had a lot of fun.

There is a lot of fun in the film - surprisingly so, since it is our serious Bond and with a very serious, sad yet heroic ending. Just a blast - the action sequences, beautifully filmed, and with many light touches to make you smile or laugh. And for a long film, it does not lag. I think Cary and the writers got the "light touch" in moments more than we realize when first viewing, because the ending is all pervasive (naturally) in our emotions when we finish the film.
