So, over on the 'Who should be a Bond girl?' page, some actresses from Bridgerton have been suggested, which got me thinking that Golda Rosheuvel would make a good M. She's a brilliant actress.

@Denbigh Haven't watched Bridgerton, but saw her recently in Doctor Who's Space Babies. She was great in that, and showed a range of emotions. It's a 'yes' from me.

I'd see Gary Oldman, although I don't think they'll cast someone older than the last actor playing M. Emma Watson is top famous for Moneypenny. I find her a rather average actress as well.

For Q ... do we think Peter Davison or Jim Broadbent are too old for this role?
I'd enjoy either one as Q. I do rather prefer an older Q this next time.

Davison is a fun thought, he's good at fusty.
I think Gary Oldman and Emma Watson have both said they've pretty much retired from acting: Oldman has said Slow Horses is likely to be his last gig.

I'd love Oldman of course. But I figured Slow Horses was his final commitment.

If we're going to have a Q, I think they should be different from Llewelyn or Wishaw. What made Wishaw's version of the character so refreshing was that he was younger - a bit of a geek, but ultimately a reliable ally willing to help Bond. Llewyeln's Q in the early Connery films was a sort of uptight school teacher constantly tetchy with Bond, but over time as he got older became an eccentric tinkerer (again, one willing to help Bond on occasion).

Cleese I guess did a sort of phoned in comedic relief thing for TWINE (which was a bit lame), and a sort of more sarcastic but competent version of Q in DAD (which worked better, although lacked Llewelyn's warmth).

It's why I can see the appeal of a female Q. Not sure what exactly they'd do with it though (the most obvious angle is akin to Shuri from Black Panther - younger, confident, humorous, very much that tinkerer type that Lewleyln's Q was in spirit). Not even sure who they'd cast.

Peter Davison would be cool to see, or we could have Q away on holiday (gone fishin') while one of his female assistants Ann Reilly or Miss Nagai take over. Cue some flirting and just a little payment of attention.

Miss Nagai was played by Japanese actress Misaki Ito:

Ann "Q'ute" Reilly was played by London actress Veronica Hare at the Casino Royale Secret Cinema:

Llewellyn's Q, the early iterations at least, always reminded me of my old DT teachers: "Sir, I don't understand." "There's NOTHING to understand!" They know what they're talking about, but they cannot for the life of them teach it. They could go back to it, bit it would depend of who is Bond.

That's interesting, I don't think I got to see any action going on in Q Branch when I went.

I feel like Richard is a tad young, or perhaps too young-looking, he still looks like he could play an older bond. I could see him working if they got a Tom Holland type, though. Otherwise, pretty on the money imo.

    M: Ralph Fiennes
    Q: Hugh Bonneville
    MP: Alice Eve

NewBond is going to be in his (mid?) 30s, so while Alice Eve looks great and I can see her as MP, she's 42 already, so...dunno. It's not just potential actors for Bond himself who're ageing out during the interregnum, I guess. It might be an interesting switch of the Bond/MP dynamic, though!

Ah yeah sorry I didn't check his age, I seen his latest photo sporting grey temples and a beard with goatee (?)

Still young enough to play James Bond, I don't think there should be a man playing M who looks like he could be the lead actor.

    Here's my take (again):
    M: Cillian Murphy
    Q: Phoebe Waller-Bridge
    Moneypenny: Anya Taylor-Joy

Isn’t Cillian Murphy both to young and famous to play M?
I could see an actor like Hugh Bonneville in the M role. I’d also be happy to see Ralph Fiennes return.

I'd like Anya for the villain, tbh. I'm a bit leery of high profile actors in the supporting roles (with the obvious exception of Fiennes, who made a perfect M) but, yeah, I could actually see Phoebe WB as Q, tbh. Richard Ayoade is another one, but he might be a bit too obvious. I could still see Samuel West as M, but he played Admiral John Godfrey, one of the templates for M, in Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, so that could get a bit meta, I guess!

I jumped to that decision when I seen this thumbnail of his photo. I swear his chinstrap was bushier, but now I can't find it. Let's make him a villain in one of the next installments, and prepare yourself for my next line-up...

Murphy is too young for sure, too youthful too.
I think there should be parameters:
M: Older than Bond, old enough to be a veteran high ranking army officer and/or civil servant.
Q: Young or old, depending of the take on the character.
Moneypenny: about Bond's age, not too old as to not appear motherly and their flirt Oedipian, not too young so Bond will not come off as a creepy uncle.

She definitely doesn't look 42! But I think you're right, it could be an interesting new dynamic. And she deserves a new franchise after that slimy bugger Pegg cut her out of Star Trek.

My first choice for a new Bond is still Cavill, but it'll probably be a man in his thirties.

I love Ben's phlegmatic Q. Harris' urbanity and energy always amuse me. Also, the woman doesn't seem to have aged a day since 28 Days Later. She's my favourite MP in terms of looks as well as characterization. And Fiennes is a fine (no pun intended) M. I'm a bit sad to see them go, but it's probably happening anyway.

Let's acknowledge that everyone was very good in their roles. But Bond was blown to smithereens. Let's not be asked to wrap our heads around the group toasting the memory of Bond in one film with the same group working with a newer, younger Bond in the next. And no, let's not pretend this newer, younger Bond is the one who later becomes Craig's Bond. The producers killed off Bond, now live with it. Move on.

Agree. They have to recast the scooby gang.

Part of me still wants Fiennes to come back as Sir Miles Messervy, but I don't expect it to happen.

I always thought Harris was a bit too sexy as Moneypenny, personally. I loved the shaving scene in SF and thought it looked too sensual and sexually charged for something Moneypenny and Bond to do. Then again, Sean Connery and Lois Maxwell played their interaction as if the characters had a past fling.
