  • Zardoz plays like one of those WTF zero budget student art movies. I once gave it an honest attempt to view, getting past the ridiculous outfit everyone has seen pictures of.

    I finally had a laughing fit, during one scene where Connery's supposed to be 'sucked into another world' and he's obviously just creeping behind a mirrored pyramid prop. 'Acting' =))
    It may not have been the exact image below but it was definitely something similar.

    It's been a really long time and I can't remember perfectly. Wasn't it revealed near the end that the name Zardoz
    was from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz?

    Definitely a weird flick. I wonder if he missed being Bond right about then, lol!

    The only thing I remember about Zardoz was...
    a giant floating stone head vomited guns saying "The gun is good and the penis is bad." Oh and Sean randomly licks some guy's hand.
    =))

    I think I know everything I need to know. Never watching this movie. It sounds like an even crazier "Land of the Lost" that somehow actually tries to take itself seriously.

    Such a shame Charlotte Rampling is a co-star in it, though. She'd have made an amazing Connery Bond girl.

    Hard to believe that this was the film Connery wanted to do as a result of coming back to play JB in DAF.

    @TripAces I must admit, I don't even know what film that's from. All I know is, I don't think I'd ever want to watch it. What's the title?

    Zardoz (1974)

    Thank you! I've never heard of it. I'll have to look it up.

    Actually, I am wrong.

    After doing "a little quiet digging," I found that Zardoz was not one of the films SC made in his two-picture deal with United Artists. I always thought it was. In fact, it seems he made only one film as part of that deal, The Offense, and the second film was scrapped. It is possible that Connery fulfilled his deal with UA by making The Wind and the Lion, but I haven't yet confirmed this.

    I can see her as Tracy, Vesper, or just any complex, enigmatic Bond girl.

    @MajorDSmythe: I'd have her cast in a Bond Girl role that would really give Bond a run for his money. A proper contender for being who's better, not the "equals" we've had since Licence To Kill (or Anya Amasova/Holly Goodhead for the matter) who always end up falling into the mud miserably every single time and Bond gets to save them repeatedly. I can imagine Rampling in a role that's the type we've seen of both Elke Sommer and Sylvia Coscina in Deadlier Than The Male but on Bond's side of the war.

    I've only just seen your comment. I have never come across anything to say that she was offered/considered for any Bond Girl. A shame that, I think she would have been perfect for the damaged girl who gets under Bonds skin.

    Charlotte as a villainess? Hhmm... I hadn't thought of that. Yes, I can picture it now. Also, I approve of the Deadlier Than The Male, mention.

    Reminds me of one of my favorite Bond jokes;

    "What time will Sean Connery be at Wimbledon?

    Tennish."

    Also, this joke belongs here;
