They certainly declined, but remained higher than they were.
I was one of them turning away from the show.
Me too.
*coughs*
http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/doctor-who-series-11-2018-uk-ratings-accumulator-88397.htm
Curious use of "large extent". First episode figures were to be expected for a new Doctor. Episodes 1 to 9 had a steady decrease, that is decrease not increase, in viewing figures. With only a small uptick with episode 10. With 'Resolution' having a little more than episode 10.
No, I am seriously concerned for the well being of my country, as any patriot would be. Especially with Russian counter-intelligence meddling in our elections and the likes of Trump and McConnell studiously ignoring the fact. Anyone who cares for the USA SHOULD be concerned. You, on the other hand, seem obsessed with opposing "wokeness" wherever you find it. Grow up and find something meaningful to be concerned about.
The last episode of the previous series got overnights of 3.75 million. The first episode of Whittaker's series got 8.20 million. What's your definition of 'large extent' if 'more than double' doesn't count? Cough.
And yes, that series lost viewers but only went down to 5.15 million (overnight, not consolidated, which was 7.36 million) compared to the 3.75 million (or 5.60 million after 7 days) of the final episode of the previous Capaldi series. So it lost viewers across the series, but the ratings still stayed above what the show was getting the previous year.
And that wasn't the lowest his series went (2.89 million a few weeks earlier).
How's that cough? :)
"That’s not true; the ratings went up, by quite a large extent."
So you wrote that in regards series 10 vs 11? If so, then you are right. However, you wrote that in response to the link about the rating falling.
Ep 01 8.2m 10.54m
Ep 02 7.11m 8.67m
Ep 03 6.39m 8.09m
Ep 04 6.43m 7.97m
Ep 05 6.12m 7.49m
Ep 06 5.77m 7.23m
Ep 07 5.93m 7.23m
Ep 08 5.66m 7.03m
Ep 09 5.07m 6.24m
Ep 10 5.32m 6.48
The article was right. 8.2 to 5.32, or 10.54 to 6.48. now Now I agree that series 11 had better ratings at the start than the previous series.
Series 11 actually dropped to 5.07 (or 6.24 consolidated). But I do agree with you in so far as the numbers of series 10 vs 11.
Coughs cleared up, by the way, I didn't know you cared.
Well obviously: this is a conversation about women daring to be cast as leads- Dr Who was brought up because Series 11 cast a woman in the lead role and it was being held up as 'proof' that it doesn't work. Saying that the ratings went down as a result is blatantly untrue, because they rose enormously; which is what I was pointing out.
Do you think, after you've cleared your throat, that the headline ""Doctor Who ratings plunge after Jodie Whittaker takes over " is correct or false?
I know they declined. But they declined to a number which was still higher than the previous male-starring series. So Series 11 -with the woman in it- got higher ratings than the previous few male-starring series all the way through.
It did, but not by the end, by which point it had actually gone up.
It's not really a matter of opinion! :)
It's not just that, though. It's also the lack of subtlety in the stories. In The Happiness Patrol, we all know Helen A is a swipe at Thatcher. In Arachnids in The UK, Robertson practically has a neon sign over his head saying "HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE DONALD TRUMP!".The stories have been getting getting gradually worse since the arrival of the 12th Doctor. And I am by no means blaming Capaldi. It just feels like that is when the stories started to go down hill. Though I did like Flatline.
But it still dropped to 5.07. The numbers might have gone up at the end, but they still hit that low point.
No, but I could have put a spin on it. Something like...
"Series 10 might have hit a low of 2.89 (overnight), but the next episode actually went up to 3.37."
At the end of the day, what with being a 7th Doctor fan, talking of viewing figures is making me uncomfortable.
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs I'm not obsessed with opposing wokeness I don't care for it but they have opinions and I respect them I'm just sick of political games and that includes today's hearings let's move on as people. I'm also sick of people overreacting to one comment.
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs Excuse me I don't care about wokeness but what it is doing isn't really helping either side. just sick of it every where just like this Russian crap we get it move on no let's keep on and on about it it's the past you can't change the past. I'm sick of everything being political where you could stand for the anthem and your for a political party you eat at a restaurant for political party. Its everywhere when for once can politics stay out of normal life. And how we know there wasn't biased from an political party I just think we won't know the whole story till Trump is out of office. The media is a tricky manipulator to trick people into believing things. I'm not alone who believes this. I'm not stuck in 2016 because things didn't go my way I move on that's maturity and growing up. And I am more concerned about other things like my health its called my day to day life for me. And if you think I'm not a patriot I'm surrounded by 16 American flags in my room from large to small and I'm a big fan of flags and I refuse to buy any Russian or Chinese flags.
Says the man who responds to one comment twice.
"Let's move on" because the hearings today exposed just how devious a traitor Trump really is. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain... but you may want to take a good luck at some of those many flags you own. I'm willing to bet that at least a few of them were made in China.
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs He is president whether people hate him or love him but it's hard to know what is true and what isn't anymore just look at tabloids nothing is clear cut anymore. Putin is definitely not dumb thats one thing and I'm not dumb Putin is one heck of a bastard let's move on actually surprisingly they are made in USA I know it's a miracle lol ;) but it's all over the packaging. That's another problem is we need things to stop being made over seas and made here but yeah let's move on.
@MakeshiftPython good to hear 👏 let's move on
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs I guess whatever comes out of the media is always right then. So you say my American flags came from China they got shipped with from the states its over the shipping records and it says made in the USA and proudly made. I have read it and have I get mixed feelings. Half of me thinks its true half me thinks its bias because its says people who worked on it didn't like the president something about being part of the resistance I thought we were moving on.
Wish I could, Murdock old boy. I'll be responding to this point at length when I get a little time. Maybe this evening.
Try considering your sources. DJT was a well-known liar before he ever got into politics. His own friends have said, "He'll lie to you just to keep in practice." Fox News was designed to be a mouthpiece for the Republican Party so you can't really take them at face value either. Long-time reputable news sources can be expected to be a bit more reliable in what they have to say on a topic...but I like to get my news from a variety of sources and sift through the chaff myself. MUCH of the stuff that is sold in the US these days is made in China -- if your flags are all old then maybe they were made back when the US was actually in the manufacturing business. Your last sentence is sorta confusing -- you may want to rewrite it into at least two different senetences. But as for moving on? No, sorry -- per Muller's testimony yesterday, the Russians are planning on meddling in the 2020 elections the same way they did with 2016. Trump doesn't want you to believe it, and McConnell is sitting on several election security bills passed by the Democratic House so we can assume he doesn't want to prevent the Russian meddling either -- but the FBI believes very strongly that Russian election meddling is NOT a hoax. Who do you believe? (Not what do you WANT to believe -- that's a very different question!)
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs yeah I tend to be a bit gibberish when it comes to typing. it's a who who trust sort of thing with everything from politics to where things were made it's sad because they used to all be trust worthy like Walter Cronkite and the news back then now you don't know what is truth or biased or what that's why I just stopped watching national news period if I had to watch the news I go for variety too. I watch CNN to BBC to CBS if I feel like it but I usually avoid national news really I watch BBC the most because they are an out of country source unless it's some catastrophe or some famous person died I watch the news then. The news was preference now it's a guessing game. I guess I can hope all my flags were truly made in the United States or anything you would think the mail service is credible but I'm not surprised with anything anymore its sad. I bought a 007 hat supposed to be i thought made in England I look on the tag it was made from Guangzhou, China it's like really lol it looks like it's not just a U S issue how cheap are companies getting. let's move on so this doesn't turn into the political thread with other people involved ;) I think we both agree that we know politics are a disaster to the thread. All I want is a united Country like back in World War 2 things have sure changed since then.
There's a term for what you're experiencing. It's called "gaslighting." The wikipedia definition is: "Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity." The practical application as we've been experiencing it is: being lied to often enough that we're not sure WHO to believe. Don't let the gaslighters win. Just as simple, and just as complex, as that.
There's not really that much to read when you take out all that's been redacted! I saw it for sale in a bookshop here in the UK recently. It's a bit like the microfilm in film version of The Spy Who Loved Me in that regard.
@BeatlesSansEarmuffs thanks for the advice ;)
I'm sorry but this is just brilliant! Very well done. Can't help but agree with it all.
Still, I'm hoping this is just a media hyperbole and that none of the will translate into the final film. IF it does, IF the final product is a 21st century y-gen pro-metoo hysteria sissy film, I'll be vocal about it. We all will be vocal about it. And they'll make amends for the 26th, like they've always done throughout the years. So, no worries here. Not that many, anyway. Can't really see Daniel Craig being THAT Bond. That emasculated, neutered y-gen man-bun, checkered shirt wearing sissy that now abounds. But, I guess time will tell.
Dicovered this guy 'The Critical Drinker' the other day, and his disections of other movies are just as funny.
His sarcastic, slurred Scottish accent is a joy!
I'm checking his videos out right now. Thank you for this ;)
“But it’s mainly about making them feel like real people, you know? Which they do in the previous films. I think Daniel’s films have had really fantastic Bond girls, so it’s just keeping it up.”
“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women,” she said. “I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now."
“It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”
“I just want to make sure that when they get those pages through, that Lashana [Lynch], Léa [Seydoux] and Ana [de Armas] open them and go: ‘I can’t wait to do that.’ As an actress, I very rarely had that feeling early in my career. That brings me much pleasure, knowing that I’m giving that to an actress.”
And while yes we discussed Naomie Harris' interview, where she states:
"We're seeing a real evolution of his character,' she says of the new and improved James Bond. He's now having equal relationships with the female characters and he's emotionally attached, making real connections."
So while you may Naomie has contradicted Phoebe here but she really hasn't, because showing those equal relationships is still true to his character, because he has had equal relationships and has respect for his colleagues and co-workers. Also, equal relationships and respect doesn't mean he's not a womaniser or a player when it comes to the females, if that's what you're worried about missing, because if you didn't know you can have respect for someone and still want to sleep with them? It's pretty normal.
I think the changes their hinting at is just how it's presented, by introducing interesting characters that can still have the same interactions with Bond, but are just not as overly sexualised. For example, the Severine shower-scene which put a lot of people of. That's something that felt odd to a lot of people and I think when Phoebe says "the film treats the women properly", she means that when Bond seduces the Bond girl it feels more realistic, character driven and not like James Bond just randomly wandered into the shower of a former sex worker to have sex with her.
It's tricky but I don't think it's gonna be as bad of a change as you think.
