Was going to post the same.
There's that, but it doesn't help that the PTS treats Bond's dispatching of Blofeld like a joke. If the a thematic connection was intentional on the filmmakers' parts, then it kind of makes even worse. To better connect with the Bond who's trying to discourage Melina, I would have liked to see a Bond who actually comes off bitter and when he kills Blofeld it doesn't appear to have satisfied him much anyway but made him almost more miserable. That would perfectly lead in to his telling the Chinese phrase, because he really understands the toll it has on one's soul. As it is, Bond is just all smiles and doesn't seem to have any conflict over killing Blofeld, and the very next time we see him he's as chipper as we expect of Sir Rog.
Contrast the way FYEO handled it with how Bond reacts after finally killing Sanchez where he's briefly alone for a moment and isn't relishing in his carnage but it almost looks like it made him feel worse. In a lot of ways, LTK feels more like the spiritual follow to OHMSS we should have got instead of that sill PTS.
Don't urge me to bring up the communist video when we talk sjw they are toxic.
Or as Fleming put it, enjoy the cigarette as you inhale the smoke deep into your lungs.
I don’t smoke of course, but we all get our jollies one way or another.
That video at least laid my fears to rest. I think Cary might be the Bond director since Martin Campbell. Kind of wish he had started with QUANTUM.
Is there no one you can talk to in real life about your issues? I’ve spent a while catching up on the last five days of news and views here and most of it is positive apart from you constantly crowing about the same old BS. You’re not going to find solace here.
Couldn't agree more mate
Also want to mention a mini-marathon I heard suggested a long time ago: the revenge trilogy of From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and For Your Eyes Only. First SPECTRE pursues revenge after Dr. No. Then Bond foils another SPECTRE plot, at great cost losing Tracy. Years later remembering Tracy at her grave, Blofeld strikes back a final time and then the larger revenge story plays out. Three Bond actors and three great films tied together.
I seriously doubt most right wing, enraged Neo cons could adequately explain communism and socialism.
Just a quick look at the rise of racist chanting and abuse at football matches in the last few weeks proves that racism is always there just bubbling under with a sizeable section of society. The fact is that there is no harm in seeing different races on screen in what is supposed to be a contemporary depiction of London and the west.
I'd say the main concern that remains for me is that it feels as though there are a lot of moving parts in this film, and I hope it doesn't feel too packed. Of course without knowing much about the plot etc., this fear might be totally off-base. But what little we've learned so far about characters, locations, action, etc., makes me curious (and yes, I guess a little concerned) to see how they'll fit all the pieces together coherently and still have room to let it breathe.
Okay. So. I'm new here and before we begin, there's something you need to hear.
I'm a new fan of the Bond series. I've never seen one before, but Lashana Lynch's casting (loved her in Captain Marvel) has brought me round to the franchise in a. Big. Way. I've been following every step of development from the moment Lashana was announced, and I can't wait to see the film drop in less than 5 weeks.
Never before have we seen someone that looks like me, talks like me, represents my generation, take on a role like James Bond. James Bond is pale, stale and male, and it's time for new blood. That's where I think Lashana comes in.
Here's my ultimatum to the Broccoli family, and to you fans: If Nomi does not take on the mantle of 007 James Bond in No Time To Die, I will not see any future Bond films or past Bond films. If she does, then I'll revisit the old ones. Any recommendations for where to begin? Any to avoid due to outdated depictions of sex, race, gender, etc.
If it punks out at the end - if Lashana is killed, if Bond reclaims his 007 number, if we reset to status quo. Then then is frankly unacceptable, and there will be consequences long term for the franchise. I will not compromise in this.
Okay. So. Is anyone else on the same page?
We've already heard from the main producers that James Bond won't be a woman, and the James Bond IP isn't going anywhere, so I think Nomi is just gonna be a really cool character who has been given the 007 number for one film and will not appear again afterwards.
I don't know how it will be dealt with in the film, but my guess is that she'll be 007 throughout until the end and then James Bond will be 007 again in the next era with a new actor, who will be a man.
I actually like the idea of Nomi as a character and her being 007 for this film, and think it'll create an interesting dynamic and more conflict for the story, but don't think she'll be taking over the franchise at all.
🤦♂️
There's certainly potential for some great characters very similar to James Bond that could be played by someone who isn't pale, stale and male. In their own series.
We'll get fresh blood and a new vision for the series once Craig leaves regardless.
I think this is a WUM. If not, and you are serious, then I suggest you follow another franchise. Bond is male. Bond is white. End of!
You are on a different page to everyone else. We all know Bond will reclaim his number at the end, and I hope Lashana gets killed in the process too.
To understand NTTD it would be a really good idea to watch the previous Craig films since they do interlock. Unfortunately, Bond being pale and male is part of his character as well as his penchant for casual sex, especially with married women. This might offend some but he is a product of the 50s and 60s and he expects everyday to be his last so we older fans cut him a bit of slack for living life to the fullest.
Wind Up Merchant. Maybe I was being a little harsh, seeing as its a new members first post.
You're right. I'll chill. Let's see what else she posts before I pass judgement.
So, welcome Saeyesha.
You say you have joined the church of Bond fandom because of Naomi/Lynch. Great. Then she's doing her job in bringing in fresh blood, hope you enjoy her role. I do think though you should enjoy her while she lasts and don't get carried away with the old media spin of "she's 007".
Of course none of us know at this point if that's true or not. What Bond fans do having a felling of however is the rich history of Bond and therefore how very very unlikely either Bond will be permanently replaced or the franchise will change completely from a gender point of view. Even if, even if, Lynch is indeed 007 for the duration of NTTD we'll have business as usual come Bond 26. I personally think even the duration of NTTD is unlikely.
I hope you are sufficiently converted as a Bond fan by then and find another reason to enjoy it because I strongly feel it won't be Nomi by then.
We've all seen the "this one is different, she's Bond's equal since the mid '70's (at least). Sure, the "she's 007" thing is a different angle but an idea from the same stable nonetheless.
My sentiments exactly.
When a newcomer posts a comment like this on a Bond forum - `If Bond reclaims his 007 number, if we reset to status quo. Then then is frankly unacceptable, and there will be consequences long term for the franchise. I will not compromise in this.'
What kind of response do you expect to get from Bond fans? Give me a break...
Blofeld?
Yes, they granted him computer rights at Wakefield. Dumb guards :-D
