Do we think the sequence proceeds or follows the scene where Bond meets Safin?
I think it goes in the following order:
Well sure. I think it’s the end of the forest chase where Bond fails to protect Swann that gets kidnapped by Ash. Right after Bond looking at the helicopter flying away, likely headed to Safin’s liar in some remote island.
Well that’s not surprising. Over the last 15 years EoN’s approach has been focused on “deconstructing” the character and basically none of the Craig entries is a “straightforward standalone adventure with no personal stuff”.
I couldn't agree more.
I really hope the Gunbarrel is at the beginning with the proper guitar riff, once the blood drips down.
Later Moneypenny and Q. More gadgets. The global plot. The warrior henchman. The return of Blofeld and SPECTRE. All played out across four films.
Yeah, Craig even mentioned in some SP interview that this was the overall plan. To bring back certain signature elements gradually throughout the films. But even if this is pretty a fact, they never stopped deconstructing those elements. Just think about the "classic" Moneypenny teased at the end of SF. Yeah, in SP she's staying behind the desk, but this time she is the one who makes jokes on Bond and refuses to have sex with him.
Yeah, but I think it should have opened proper in SF. But Mendes had some excuse of the opening shot been too identical with the Gunbarrel. We could understand Forster wanting it at the end of QoS to close the events of CR. Coz SF was really looking like a return to standalone Bond films.
Mendes was right about the gun barrel being at the end of SF.
Double 0 have a short life expectancy. BTW Matera seems right after SP, while Jamaica 100% present day.
Maybe no one has been promoted for 3 years, or maybe the new agents were given other numbers.
No. That scene is from the third act.
I guess if she had been on the cusp of being a double O five years ago there’s a chance Bond would have actually known her. If it was three years later then it’s more believable that their paths haven’t crossed before.
Also she would have been 27, which might be a bit young (although maybe not).
That's what I think/hope. Something I wished they'd picked up from CR: integrate the gunbarrel to the narrative of the PTS.
Won't happen this time around. I'm wondering if the final shot of the trailer has been made just for marketing purposes, since it comes from the third act.
I agree @matt_u it's a cool shot but looks too staged to be in the film.
Agreed
Trailer music for anyone looking for it.
Are we 100% sure it comes for the last act? Not being a contrarian as it would make sense. Still nice shot.
The costume Craig is wearing definitely places it in the last act.
Could make for a great scene.
But anyway, I wished that they'd make a gunbarrel sequence integrated to the PTS for the whole Craig era.
(Subs, please?)
