If anyone is looking for a good Ghostbusters game, I would point them in the direction of Ghostbusters: The Videogame (2009 originally, remastered in 2019). Featured the voice and likenesses of all four principal actors, plus Annie Potts and William Atherton.

Funnily enough I finally finished that about a month ago after getting a bit bored of it when I originally played it. It was good to finally get it done!
This game above looks very similar to me; I didn't really love the idea of being a Ghostbuster enough to do it again.

If they drop the nostalgia angle it might be okay.

They really should just end this franchise for good. AFTERLIFE was garbage.

Yes, it was. If they magically come up with an amazing idea then fine, but I'm not interested in any more of the same.

I don't even see how it can function as a franchise at all. GBII was a fun encore, but that's it.

Did anyone ever watch Ghostbusters and think, "Oh, if you moved this to Oklahoma and incorporated children, then you'd really have something"?

Ghostbusters is a lot like Star Wars for me. While there were the hits (Ghostbusters 1, OG trilogy SW), the franchises really don’t have the overall quality to match their hype IMO. They’re big name properties that are more exciting on the surface than when you get into the actual contents. I’d be more than fine seeing both of them laid to rest.

Both "franchises" are also interesting in how current entries are so far away from what the original work was that they could be another genre entirely.

Controversial statement: I wanted them to continue with the Kristen Wiig Ghostbusters. I had more fun with that film than with any of the other three.

There was a sequel comic run by IDW. Maybe you could check it out.

I just hope the OG cast have bigger roles this time, though a new villain/threat would be great.

It's good they've made Rudd a proper ghostbuster by the looks of it, I thought that's what he'd be last time.

I am on board though Ghostbusters is one of my favorite films of all time.

Even though I consider GB2 something of a guilty pleasure, this should have never become a franchise. Those last two entries were awful, and this looks like the same Sony CGI crap.

Admittedly I am influenced by nostalgia, I watched Ghostbusters at the cinema way back in 1984 on a family Christmas holiday that I have fond memories of, the first two films are great and ok.

Ghostbusters ended with Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009), which faithfully took the place of a third Ghostbusters film set around 1991.

I agree, the 2009 Video Game is canon with the movies. Afterlife kind of confirmed it. I'm happy when movies consider their video games canon.

More and more, it’s really becoming hard to respect Bill Murray. He’s the one that caused the 3rd film to be delayed for so many years. And his behind the scenes personality is catching up with him. However, I am looking forward to the snowy setting. It feels fresh for a Ghostbusters story.

Is there a mention of the game in Afterlife?

I haven't seen Afterlife, but that is pretty neat if the game got a reference in the film.

Imagine if Bryan Welsh (the character you play as in the game) played an important part in Afterlife.

I enjoyed Afterlife very much; it embraced nostalgia without wallowing in it.
