    The Trio - Ennio Morricone

On leave and listening to The Maestro's music today, I still get chills listening to this.

    Ramon

One of the greatest villain introductions.

Last week I happened upon a program on Arte dedicated to John Barry's music and one of the excerpts shown was from this 1966 spy thriller which I've never heard of.
Not surprisingly, it reminded me a lot of the theme for The Ipcress File, so naturally I had to listen to the whole soundtrack on YT.
The movie was also available to watch on YT so I gave it a go... unfortunately, it turned out to be a poor man's Ipcress File with Barry's music its only saving grace, despite featuring the likes of Alec Guinness and Max von Sydow.
But now I am completely obsessed with this fantastic score and I've already ordered the cd on eBay.

I really like 'The Quiller Memorandum', it's fairly engrossing Spy thriller, scripted by Harold Pinter. Love the opening scene, with George Sanders discussing the killing of their agent , while talking about the quality of hs lunch. Plus it has a film stealing turn from Alec Guinness discussing with Quiller ( Segal) his dilemma with the aid of currant buns!
And Barrys score is excellent as you would expect!

I personally enjoyed The Quiller Memorandum more than The Ipcress File. I think the latter is pretty overrated. Outside of some interesting camera angles and the excellent Barry score it’s pretty forgettable. Quiller is a solid little spy thriller. Can’t go wrong with Max Von Sydow as a baddie (remember Three Days of the Condor?) and Senta Berger was beautiful. And of course the excellent as always Barry score!
