Good to see everyone doing their part, and stepping up.
Doesn't matter if it's large or small. It all helps.

I’m assuming you’re posting this as an example that Bill Gates is saying something bad to fit your position.

Have you ever even travelled abroad? I’m guessing not.

If you have, have you ever tried to travel abroad without say, a passport. You know, like a certificate. With your details on it.

To be honest not much has changed in my job role, it's all relative anyone would act accordingly in what ever situation arises.

My message to everyone is look after yourselves and others, be responsible and take the necessary precautions, and most importantly keep positive.

There’s very little to analyse or question. You posted a 15 second clip of bill gates saying that in future we may have to carry papers to say we have contracted and recovered from an infectious disease

Can you answer the question though for us? Have you ever travelled abroad.

    Completely unnecessary.

This past week, 3.3 million US citizens registered to claim unemployment benefits. This is the all-time highest unemployment rate in US history. The previous record was set in 1982, when unemployment claims hit 695,000.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52050426

As feared, the global economy will be left in very, very bad shape from the coronavirus.
The US has once again obliterated their all-time highest unemployment rate, as this past week 6.6 million US citizens registered to claim unemployment benefits.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/02/economy/unemployment-benefits-coronavirus/index.html
A further 6.6 million US citizens have filed for unemployment benefits this past week. That makes for a total of 16 million jobs lost in the United States in the past 3 weeks. For comparison, the 2008 financial crisis accounted for a total 9 million jobs lost, over a much longer period (18 months).
Another 5.5 million US citizens have filed for unemployment benefits this past week. There is now a total of nearly 22 million jobs lost in the United States in the last month. This is nearly 32 times than the previous highest unemployment rate in U.S. history (695,000 jobless citizens in 1982).

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/jobless-claims-hovered-at-5-2-million-last-week-over-21-million-have-filed-for-unemployment-in-pandemic

Another 4.4 million US citizens have filed for unemployment benefits this past week. There is now a total of of 26.4 million jobs lost in the United States since the coronavirus outbreak begun. This means that more than 15% of the U.S. workforce are now unemployed. This is nearly 38 more times more than the previous highest unemployment rate in U.S. history.

I have been to around 20 countries. What does it have to do with anything? Showing a passport is not the same as enforced vaccinations in order to be able to travel, work or move around freely.

Perhaps, but it was in response to "Have you ever even travelled abroad? I’m guessing not. " and the comparisons above between passports and injeced disease and toxins. I stand by my answer. It is not the same.

When I travelled to India it was a requirement to be vaccinated for hepatitis, typhoid, cholera etc. As much as anything to not put a strain on my home country if I returned infected

    Edit: ok discussion over

Bringing the conversation off the issue of showing our papers in order to travel... one of the more surprising issues involving the battle against this nasty virus (to me at least) is the topic of protests aimed at "re-opening" American businesses prematurely. Too political? Frankly... I don't care. These people are going to make the virus stronger than ever if they have their way, all to benefit their own pocketbooks: https://www.themuckrake.com/main/fake-movement?fbclid=IwAR3BHwzuPpwtVo4h5tPvAHla-_-3XLRnrv_3mQtNbLKD9eQ10GB0j8mHkU4

Yes I used to live in India, and you do need to be vaccinated before travel. No big deal.

It may well be that we have to carry vaccination docs with us in the future as a result of this pandemic, but so what? I don't see what the big issue with that is.

I'm more concerned that we won't be able to travel anywhere anymore after this lockdown, rather than worrying about having to carry a piece of paper with me when I travel.

One thing is for certain. Life as we knew it pre March 2020 will never be the same once we get through to the other side of this pandemic. There will be major changes to how we behave in society, how we travel, how we greet each other, how we socialise, how we work.

The question is, by how much change the new norm will become, post lockdown.

I would love to read @DarthDimi tearing these quotes apart. :)

    Especially these:

"So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous - whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light," the president said, turning to Dr Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response co-ordinator, "and I think you said that hasn't been checked but you're going to test it.

"And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside of the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you're going to test that too. Sounds interesting," the president continued.

"And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?

"So it'd be interesting to check that."

Pointing to his head, Mr Trump went on: "I'm not a doctor. But I'm, like, a person that has a good you-know-what."

EDIT: I know this post is entering the realm of politics, but I think it is very important to stop the spread of false information; especially those that if put into effect, can have disastrous consequences for people's health.
  • This is way beyond politics. It's almost like he's thinking, "They'll do whatever I say. Let's try urging them to shoot up Clorox and then....we'll see what happens."

I watched the press conference last night live and could not believe what I was hearing but the transcripts confirmed it. His scientific advisors should resign today and go on the record re what a stupid and dangerous man he is. By staying in their roles and underplaying this, they provide a level of legitimacy that he clearly does not deserve. I genuinely think that Trump is delusional and dumb (moronic actually) but those around him are not.

    @DaltonCraig007
I think those quotes pretty much tear themselves apart. Trump is behaving like a five-year-old trying to explain quantum physics to his parents. But hey, he still has his supporters, so let them believe his every word, sunbathe themselves into skin burns, all the while assuming this is somehow offering all the protection they need. What's next? "No need to worry, Africa. You're practically burning up down there. You're safe from Corona."

All I know is that Trump is offering me tons of quality material to bring into my classroom. "So, my dear students, here are a few lines from You-Know-Who (not Voldemort, at least he was smart and cool and not nearly as evil). Now, please find 5 errors in this man's reasoning--a word I use with hesitation. If you can find more than 5, don't boast. That's like taking candy from a baby. Yes, Jules, he's still the president of America; no, I don't understand it either."

    This is downright pathetic.

Here's the thing. If an infected person talks or sneezes, particles with the virus end up on surfaces you may touch five minutes later. When it's blazing hot and UV indexes are high (which, of course, isn't a good thing either), the virus doesn't survive nearly as long on those surfaces as, say, in Winter. But when you're actually infected with it, what, you're going to have yourself radiated with UV? Incidentally, "very powerful light" means nothing in this context, as visible light won't do the trick. But then neither will the UV. You may end up with skin burns and possibly skin cancer, but a virus going parasitic on your cells deep inside your body cannot be stopped that way. Perhaps we can kill it with intense doses of X-rays and gamma rays... and die fast if we don't Hulk out first.

Look, I'd laugh if this wasn't so seriously unethical. People stupid enough to believe Trump may start to act less careful, thinking there's a new magic trick to beat Corona. They may contract the virus and some of them will die, thanks to Trump.

What's even worse is the suggestion that one should drink disinfectant. People commit suicide that way; even in rather low doses, it is still pretty harmful. So what's going on here, America? Your president wants you all dead, or just the stupid people? Either way, revolutions were once instigated for less.

I know what's coming. "Dimi, you're a moderator, you shouldn't write those things. Dimi, he built a wall and put 25 dollars extra in my pocket. Dimi, he keeps those Mexicans away; you should see where I live." Aaaaand? What that idiot is saying right now and how he is handling this crisis, is enough to lock him up for good, either in prison or in an insane asylum. The more Trump gets to have his saying, the more the rest of the world is looking at America with our jaws on the floor...

Today Reckitt Benckiser, the maker of Lysol and its German cousin Sagrotan, saw it as necessary to expressly warn people not to take the disinfectants internally. Some people joked this morning that the products would be sold with reusable syringes and needles from now on.

When you buy a bottle of bleach etc and you see "keep out of reach of children", perhaps they need to add "and Presidents"
