Thanks for the link. I'm not a dog person myself, but this is absolutely outrageous. I'm pro many rules or actions that prevent further spreading of the virus, but in this case, they're not trying hard enough. Killing dogs seems so utterly useless and 'cheap', but above all, it's disgusting.
+1.
Even in the seventies, I was appalled to find out many animals in American shelters were routinely "euthanized" when they hadn't been adopted after a few weeks. It doesn't happen here in Germany (at least not legally and/or routinely). The local shelter we got our cats from over three years ago is still featuring some of the animals they were trying to place back then. Mostly problematic "attack dogs", but even those won't normally be put down if the efforts fail.
You're right, @chrisisall , and I'm all for easing every animal's pain to the max. Or rather min. Still, there's a difference, in general perception, between livestock that was raised for being turned into food (or wouldn't be there in the first place) or "pets" that have been taken to a shelter explicitely to save their lives. And the point of the article was apparently that shooting them may not be the non-painful way if it is supposed to happen in the first place. Don't know if that is true in every case, but apparently they can also be kept alive.
Amen to that, @chrisisall!
Mr Morrison said he was given an exemption to travel from Canberra to Sydney on a private jet on the weekend.
Health authorities said they approved his trip given his unique role as an "essential worker".
But critics said the action was an example of double standards.
More than half of Australians are in lockdown due to Delta variant outbreaks in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Many state borders are also closed.
The Labor opposition accused Mr Morrison of showing "appalling judgement".

Dr Anthony Fauci has been accused by critics of lying after newly released documents appear to contradict his claims that the National Institute of Health did not fund gain-of-function research at China’s Wuhan lab.
Senator Rand Paul led the criticism against Dr Fauci on Tuesday after the documents, obtained by The Intercept, detailed grants given to EcoHealth Alliance — the non-profit that funnelled federal funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for bat coronavirus research.

He wasn't accused. Senator Paul didn't lead the criticism. Funds didn't go to the Wuhan Clinic.

AUGUST 25, 2021 / 9:34 AM / CBS NEWS
Washington — The U.S. intelligence community has delivered findings from its 90-day investigation into the origins of COVID-19 to President Biden, a White House official said, acknowledging receipt of the report on Wednesday.
"The President was briefed on the classified report," the official said. "We look forward to having an unclassified summary of key judgments to share soon."
But the highly anticipated conclusion of the inquiry may rekindle, rather than settle, debate about the virus' origins and whether a research facility in Wuhan, China, bears any responsibility for starting the pandemic. Intelligence officials have for weeks downplayed the likelihood that agencies would arrive at a definitive conclusion, citing the Chinese government's lack of cooperation and early obfuscation of relevant data.

A US intelligence report requested by President Biden into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic is inconclusive, US media reports say.
Agencies are reportedly divided on whether the virus - first seen in China - was the result of a natural spillover from animals to humans or was caused by a laboratory accident.
A summary of the report is expected to be published in the coming days.

See how long it lasts but been a trend for around a week. Fallen by nearly 20% over the previous 7 days
Last year, people were demonized as conspiracy theorists by so called fact checkers and banned from platforms such as Youtube for claiming this was in the cards. Now people are demonized and banned for opposing it.
