Casting suggestions

edited December 2011 in Actors Posts: 74
Seeing as I can't find such a thread, and on the old forums the topic was quite active. I thought why not. Supporting character, Bond girl, future 'M', villain, waiter, dustbin collector and whoever else you can envisage having a part in the Bond series. I want your casting suggestions!

Seeing as though Dame Judi Dench is likely to end her run as 'M' in the next film. I'll start with a replacement M.

Kevin McNally

There's no need to be snarky with the use of bold. The first thread you referenced is titled "Skyfall Bond 23 Production – Casting Director". Mine was a more general casting for the Bond series as a whole (including beyond "Skyfall"). As for the second thread, once more not quite appropriate as I didn't solicit opinions for a remake, merely those actors that will step in as new characters/replacement actors - whether that be the current continuity or not. If he had changed it to "Cast Your Own Bond Film" ("Casting for Bond films" would be more apt) I probably would've posted there. I also checked with a moderator here to make sure and they said it would be fine to post with the caveat someone would come along and probably tell me to post elsewhere. Unless the moderators say otherwise, I'll stay put here thanks. Anyone else is welcome to chip in with casting suggestions. :-)

Gerard Butler as a fellow 00 agent who teams up with CraigBond for a small part of the mission. But unlike Sean Bean, he remains an ally and doesn't die.

Sir Ben Kingsley in an ally or villain role. He may now be too old to play the main villain.

    Simon Pegg as Q.

I apologise for the aggressive tone earlier JWESTBROOK. I feel my thread isn't really congruent with the threads you suggested. If the mods feel that these threads ought to be merged into one 'speculative casting' thread then fine by me!

On-topic: Sir Ben Kingsley is a great actor. I know he likes to play villains and of course he's very good at it. I'd rather see him play an ally, because he has that slightly dark edge to him. A little bit like Alan Rickman. I could see Sir Ben play as either an M or the Defence Minister?

Simon Pegg's an interesting call. Not sure whether it would be too familiar for some audiences, seeing as he plays a Scotty in the new Trek franchise and a Tech guy for Cruise in the latest Mission Impossible films?

I don't know about Gerard Butler. He's another Jason Statham. I haven't seen Machinegun Preacher which looks interesting, so I shall have to give that a look and make my mind up.

I'd like to see Toby Kebbell involved somewhere. I saw him in The Veteran, a film with an interesting premise and a great central performance from Kebbell but let down in parts. I'm not sure whether I'd want to see him as a junior minion or a junior ally.

To be fair @Mach2Infinity ran it past me before opting to start this thread. I could see nothing wrong with it, so away we go.

I mentioned Alan Rickman elsewhere as a villain similar to Drax, but more interesting and over-the-top. I feel Rickman would want to play an ally instead, as he's tired of being cast as the villain in every film he's in.

If Pegg played a tech guy in an MI film, then ignore my previous comment.

Pegg's a good suggestion, I was just saying I'm not sure whether he'd feel too familiar to audiences in the role. But then again, I think he'd be very good. Alan Rickman would make for a snarky M, he could even replace 'Mathis' as a supporting character?

One of my favorite actors is Al Pacino. His characters always seem ready to blow whether they're cops, crooks, salesmen, lawyers, or retired Army Cols. Hoooooahhh!!!!

I agree Alan Rickman would be amazing in a Bond film. He would then be a villian in two major action franchises(Die Hard)

How about Christoph Waltz as a villain? Could be American, English, German, Spanish, and even Italian. Quite the man for any role, wouldn't you say. And his bad is so.. good.

EDIT: Hell, even a henchman! What a memorable character he would make.

    Christian Kane:

    <img src="http://static.tvfanatic.com/images/gallery/eliot-spencer-pic.jpg">;

He's currently playing Elliot Spencer in "Leverage", where he spends most of his time being angry and hitting people. Not always in that order, though.
  • The last time I watched Hot Fuzz I remember thinking that Jim Broadbent would make an awesome Q. He kind of has crazy eyes, but sometimes that helps. ;)

He can sing too. Bond's first singing villain??

I was thinking more of a reimagined Jack Wade. I think the reason why Wade worked in GOLDENEYE was because he was slightly mad - he was in Russia, which had once been one of the best postings a CIA agent could have ... but after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Wade's gardens were more interesting and important than anything the Russians were doing. I think Kane could be a decent take on a character like Wade.
  • The hardest ones I have trouble with casting is Bond girls. It is hard to find that fight mix of beauty, elogance, and assertion needed for a great Bond girl.

Just realized how amazing this would be. That duo playing around with Bond? The highlight of every movie.

Not condoning the suggestion of Statham, but current Bond isn't that different from Statham as Bond. Though Stathams action films are usually entertaining, well the Transporter films are.

I know he'd be similar to craig but I think he could pull it of. I'd rather see idris elbra though

Statham's films are miles more entertaining and fun than Craig's Bond films, but neither are appropriate for Bond.

I'd rather eat cardboard than watch any of the Transporter films.

I think it would have to be one or the other. Having both in the movie, with their strong chemistry, could detract from Bond's chemistry with Q.

No, I agree. God forbid Statham should get the role. And though I would like Bond to remain white, as far as black actors for Bond go, then I would choose Adrien Lester. In Hustle, he exhibits the qualities that Bond is currently lacking (charm, charisma, intelligence, presence).

The day Jason Statham becomes James Bond is the day I will go to Roger Moore's estate and personally ask him to come back for one last film.

I think Jason Statham could be a good addition to a Bond film - just not as Bond. There have been plenty of calls for a Red Grant-like character: someone physically imposing who can simply overpower Bond through sheer brute force. I think The Stath fits that bill perfectly. He might have a reputation for dud films, like DEATH RACE and THE MECHANIC, but he's also got some hidden gems on his resume, like THE BANK JOB (where he was perfect as a blue-collar criminal in 1970s London). So I think that Jason Statham in the role of a henchman who does the villain's dirty work - and possibly someone who unsettles his employer - could work really well.
