I'm sure I noticed it more because R Moore commented on it. I forget if it was discussed in his James Bond Diary on the making of LALD
Okay we are getting the votes tabulated by the fine folks at Willard Whyte Enterprises. When you want to fake a moon landing, or go away with Bambi and Thumper, Willard Whyte can handle it all. The Klebbie goes to....Plenty O'Toole in DAF, accepting the award is Tiffany Case who owes her life to Plenty!
Here are the results of our Klebbie:
Our next award goes back to the good side of the ledger! Lets do a Bondie and look at introduction of a new actor in the role! The producers seem to know to pull out the stops when introducing a new Bond to the screen. I am going to set aside Sean and Roger as both didn't figure in the PTS with their introductions and Sean's is certainly iconic for all the right reasons. So here are the nominees:
So my dear academy members! Who has the best PTS introduction of their Bond? Remember we are just taking the PTS into account, not the film as a whole. Let the sport commence!
Lazenby is introduced in a cool way in the car where we son't see the whole face in the beginning. And I love the fight.
TLD is a perfect PTS and the tension is high as we don't know which one is Bond. When Dalton is introduced, the action sets in and already tense PTS is combined with awesome stuntwork and car action. And I also love the end of the PTS which is why I slightly prefer this one to Lazenby's introduction.
The TLD PTS is only topped in my ranking by GE. The bungee jump is a perfect beginning and I love the tension when Bond is surrounded by the soldiers in the facility with Ourumov explaining tht Bond can't win...and then he succeds of course. I miss this kind of Bond moments.
CR is a completely different PTS but perfecg for what it is and with a cool ending ("considerably"). All in all, I still prefer the more spectacular PTS:
I don't have problem with Bond's toilet introduction in GE. I love all the action and atmosphere around it and vote for GE.
Of course (if the stories are true), the real award here should go to the person that managed to convince Jill St. John to accept the award on behalf of Lana Wood!!!
:))
In GE, I think its Trevelyan who had got the perfect introduction there with him coming from shadows and points his gun to James, I also liked the way how he speaks Russian, the dialogue in that scene was also great.
CR was more serious, but not just a fan of the black and white palette (That whole Dryden scene), looked like a bit of Batman for me.
Lazenby's introduction was close to the novel, but it's my second pick after TLD.
I liked TLD because the fun and danger was perfectly balanced, so I'll go with that, perfect for Dalton's introduction.
But I am keeping this to the 4 Bond's who made their introduction to audiences in their PTS. Hence Moore and Connery not being nominated for their introductions.
The shot of Tim turning to the camera as the yells of 004 are heard in the background is one of my favourite moments of the series. Barry's music is perfect, the location is wonderfully atmospheric, and it leads into a fantastic action sequence.
An easy choice.
CR is close behind and GE is also brilliant, but TLD is just prime Bond.
Apologies. I mis-recalled and thought the scene in Bond's flat was post-credits. In which case, you nailed it and TSWLM PTS cannot be in the running as a possible answer to this question. Now...if we want to talk about THE BEST PTS overall ??? It's a candidate, but, wow GF...
It is. It's the first scene after the song finishes.
Yes, TLD is my definitive favourite too. Dalton Bond really hits the ground running, as it were, and I think it remains the best introduction of any Bond actor in the role.
Which song ? The title song ? So I recalled correctly that Moore's Bond was not introduced in LALD until after the PTS ? And if my recollection was correct on TMWTGG, as well, then Moore's first PTD appearance was in TSWLM ? If so, then I toss Moore back in on best new Bond PTS...
The criteria is it has to be a PTS that introduces a new Bond. TSWLM doesn't work as Roger is not a new Bond at that point - it's his third film.
