Agreed. However, this was looking at Bond versus the villains. So sadly, it was not included. I also considered the game between Bond and Onnatopp but since she was not the main villain that too went by the wayside.
I didn't included the Poker scene from CR, because in my opinion, that's the main plot of the film.
The majority of the film focused on that, it's unfair for those other games/sports scenes between Bond and the villain.
Those games/sports here that I've included were just included in their respective films just to show the rivalry between Bond and the villain, without it making the whole plot for the film.
But if the CR poker scene was included I know it would win, but in my opinion (yes, the movie focused on this too much since it's the main plot of the film, it's a bit unfair).
About the other gambling scenes in the film (Chemin de Fer in OHMSS, and the Baccarat between Bond and Xenia in GE).
Those games that I've included were just between Bond and the Main villain.
I don't even like golf. But I love Goldfinger golf.
Nice analysis, and nice to see some love for the DAD scene.
I agree with your analysis of the sequence. If only Madonna could be excised from the scene. ;)
The stakes do get high and the action quite ferocious and at times it gets very personal. I find it to be a highlight of the film.
Double sixes... fancy that.
"What do you mean?"
"The spectre of defeat that your luck was due to change."
later
"One of my associates spoke about you!"
"Nothing bad I hope."
I love the whole TB scene so much. The carefree flick of the cards by Bond when he is winning. Largo's mounting frustration at losing. Domino in that gorgeous dress, Bond in the black tux and Largo in the dinner jacket. Reeks of style and glamour. For me it beats out GF by a smidge so I am going with TB for my vote.
So dear members of the academy we must break the tie! Please re-cast your ballot for either Goldfinger or Octopussy! Let's see who comes out with the Bondie!
(edit: I've just now read it's supposed to be about re-casting, so I guess my vote is invalid)
Octopussy is great, but mostly just for the one moment at the end.
I'm glad CR wasn't considered. It is too much of the movie proper, for one thing, and it's also exposition-heavy, to put it mildly. And it tends to follow the story beats of a generic sports movie--all of the side characters losing quickly, melodrama away from the game, an extremely contrived climax. It is a change from the standard Bond/villain competition, but it's within the MO of that movie to replace Bondian conventions with more generic film clichés.
Next time to turn to a Klebbie! There are many performances within the films that excite us, enthrall us and even some that make us feel emotions. Then there are the hammy performances! The types of over-acting, over-emoting, and over the top acting that can take an audience out of a scene. In some cases, it fits the tone of the movie, in others it can feel like it doesn't belong.
Time to award a Klebbie to the hammiest performance in a Bond film. The nominees are:
There you have it the nominees for hammy acting! For those that need a reference to what hammy acting is
1. (Theatre) (of an actor) overacting or tending to overact
2. (Theatre) (of a play, performance, etc) overacted or exaggerated
So what says the academy who deserves the kick in the shins for hammy acting?
No shin kicks here, just plaudits.
