Indeed. Bond, Q, Octopussy and her gang of acrobatic women vs. Prince Kamal Khan's men should definitely warrant a mention.
Also, I haven't seen a mention of the US Army vs. Goldfinger's men at the end of GF but that's probably because the true main battle there is inside the gold depository between Bond and Oddjob.
I'm happy to see TB's final battle get quite a few votes. YOLT's final battle is my favorite of the 005 nominees but TB's is the most underrated IMHO.
The votes show the academy was torn on a number of the nominees:
TB received 7 votes
OHMSS received 13 votes
YOLT received 6 votes
TSWLM received 2 votes
FRWL received 0 votes
Another hallmark of the earlier films was the first meeting of the villain and Bond. Normally done in a social setting. The two protagonists would be feeling each other out. Sometimes threats were exchanged. Usually witty dialogue ensued. Time for us to find the best Bond meets villain scene!
The nominees are:
What say you Mi6? Who wins the Bondie for best villain meets Bond scene?
A very strong scene, continuing the mind games that Bond began in Miami and cementing the tone of their verbal sparring that would continue throughout the film.
But then when I saw the golf match was in there it's no contest really (if we're taking it as the whole of that sequence up to Oddjob crushing the ball etc.). It's one of the all-time best scenes in any of the movies. Pretty much perfect (aside from that damned fake bird whistle someone keeps blowing! :D ).
GF golf match is great, as is the card game in TB
But I love the Problem Eliminator scene from LTK,
So that wins it for me!
I also like the slice and dice, but it's because I usually like fencing action, not so much because of the Bond/Villain dialogue.
The other three work very well for the film; the Spectre mentionings and Largo's reactions are especially great.
Good point here. Since most of these scenes are early or midway through the movie there isn't a climax about them. But I find they reveal much about the character of the villain. Goldfinger cheating once the gold bar is at stake, Drax wanting to show his magnificence. Largo trying to best Bond but falling just short. Graves showing his ego and Sanchez quietly showing he is boss and Bond trying to curry favour.
The DN scene was out for me as it occurred to late in the film, even though it was their first meeting. I think the same thing happens in TMWTGG, while they meet at the kickboxing arena Bond and Scaramanga's real interaction occurs at the dinner scene at the end.
It's no longer the sole vote. Of those 005 nominees I happily cast my vote for
Largo and Bond have a SPECTRE over their shoulders at the baccarat table from TB
My favorite casino sequence in the series from Bond's entrance through the game of baccarat and ending with Bond wooing Domino on the dance floor to the soft rendition of Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in the background.
Brilliant moment. Series highlight, IMO. Connery at his absolutely at the peak of his powers. This is the clear winner for me too.
Close second.
Did I make a mistake, would anyone vote for Kamal meets Bond?
I didn't vote for that one but I agree Connery is pretty magic in TB. It's one of the rare examples of a Bond film where the sighing of all of those women as he walks past is actually believable!
:)
Probably not...but the scene where Bond meets Orlov on the train, now that is a great scene!
Yes
